Had the same problem. The controller is junk. I wanted metal on metal instead of metal going through junk plastic on the lever. So, I ground off the ridge on the insert hole till it was flat. Then I epoxied a size 6 flat washer over the top of the hole and reassembled. It works great. Repair cost maybe 2 cents worth of epoxy and a 2 cent washer. Saved $42 . 😊

Thank you for sharing that. I am sure it will be very helpful for viewers to have another option. Seems like a lot of parts they made of plastic should have been metal. My next repair is the main drive idler pully under the machine. It is made of plastic as well. It has developed a flat spot. The machine still moves ok but makes a very unpleasant noise when engaged.

Oh wow thanks for this comment! I'm going to give it a try. Is the best way to remove the assembly how Richard shows? Or does that break the clips and make it hard to re-insert?

Excellent tutorial on how to remove a defective throttle cable/assembly and install a new one. Well photographed, and easy for the layman to understand. Saved me a lot of fooling around and knuckle-busting. Thank you so much, Rick. I have just subscribed to your channel.

Thanks Jim, as I think I mentioned in the video there are a number of parts on these machines made out of plastic that would have been better made of steel. Over the winter I am going to bring the machine in and replace one of the drive pulleys as it has developed a flat spot. That part is also made of plastic. I did this repair for a customer but did not film it. This time I will. Don't be a stranger Jim.

Thank you so much. After 36 years of used mowers I finally decided to buy new. Chose cub cadet and it's a pos with 54 hours on it. I can't afford repairs and I can't afford to find a warrantee dealer that's 100 miles away. What a company. YOU are a blessing.

I am not a small engine mechanic, however I had to figure these things out of necessity. My first experience was with a warrantee issue a few weeks into ownership. The dealer told me it would be 6 weeks before they could get to it, so I fixed it myself. There are 4 of these machines in my neighborhood as I have been servicing all of them.

Thanks, Richard. Part number was a plus!

it would be nice if the part was made of metal instead of plastic, thanks for watching

I drilled out the hole just enough to put a pop rivet in it. After installing it I drilled the center of the pop rivet out. Put the cable in the hole I drilled into the pop rivet and it worked.

That was very resourceful. Thank you for sharing. I replaced the entire mechanism but still have the issue that the part is made of plastic. Sounds like your repair is a lot more permanent.

After watching this video, I decided to use epoxy to make sure the cable stayed in the plastic. I've made it all year without needing to replace the part. Sometimes the Macgyver method works with some good insight on what's causing my issue.

Thanks for sharing. I have one person I have had to replace the throttle 3 times. Next time his machine comes in I will try that. I have found the issue mostly exists on the machines with the manual choke. On the manual choke type machines, you must manipulate the throttle every time you start the motor. My XT2 has the automatic choke of which I seldom need to even touch the throttle.

Thank you very much for this video it perfectly showed me what I need to do to repair my mower including advice on ordering the part I need. Again thank you

Thanks for the very kind words. Glad the video was helpful. Too much stuff is made out of plastic these days.

Second hole does work if your on a budget or till you get the new part in

Thanks for sharing that information. I will keep that in mind if ever in a pinch. There are a more than a few parts on those machines that would have been much better made of steel.

I am very sorry I have taken so long to reply. This issue is more prevalent in the XT1 machines because they have a manual choke. The XT2 machines have an automatic choke resulting in much less manipulation of the throttle.

I am very sorry I have taken so long to reply. Thanks for the kind words. These are supposed to be top of the line machines. I find many parts now made of plastic that formerly were made of steal.

I never thought that Cub Cadet was a top of the line riding mower. :-) I ended up following the suggestion of another KZbinr. He suggested using the other hole next to the failed hole. I made a slight adjustment on where I clamped the outer cable on the engine and everything works. The other guy said he got several more years out of the mower by using the other hole. Eventually you'd have to replace the throttle and cable, but for now, the repair was $0.00. I've been real happy with it the repair and the mower. The worst problem I've had so far is the starter failing and I have trouble with the pulleys and I lose a belt occasionally. In general, it is a great mower. I did have to replace the battery already. My mower was purchased on 5/22/2018. @@richardspaulding5035

I’m epoxying a metal piece over the hole to reduce this wear. The hole is close to 7/64. I cut off a piece from a picture hanging bracket . Grinding down the plastic nub so the metal will be on the same elevation as the original. Could save someone from buying a whole new piece.

Please by all means let me know how this works. Several parts on these machines they made of plastic that are very troublesome
@philliphall51982 ай бұрын
Well it’s a 65 buck of plastic junk waiting to break again and again Better to go to the trouble and use other types of control devices 😊
@richardspaulding50352 ай бұрын
I cannot argue with that! There are a number of parts on these Cub Cadets that are made of plastic instead of metal. I am constantly replacing the throttle on the XT1 Machines because they all have manual chokes. The throttle must be manipulated every time the engine is started. On the other hand, the XT2 machines have automatic chokes so you seldom need to touch the throttle lever. I have yet to need to replace the throttle on an XT2.
