Just a simple advice from an electronics engineer. Allways disconnect the positive wire first and then the negative. When connect is the reverse, negative first and positive last. Negative is used as reference and is normally connected to the chassis. So you must keep you reference connected as long as you can. Love your videos. Keep up the good work. 😀

It's the opposite. you always remove the negative first, then the positive. Reverse when you reconnect.

I'm an EE as well and I see where you're coming from. In automotive everyone takes the opposite route. I don't remember anymore, but there is a rationale out there.

Great video with clear instructions - keep em coming :-) I love having extra lighting on my bike when I installed my LED's on the F800 I used the Hex EZcan, it made life soooooo much easier as it automatically ties into the bikes switches 😎👍

Thanks for the video. By the way, it is always the best practice to connect the end terminals to the supply (battery in this case) the last, since there is a high risk of shorting the + and - wires at the open ends, causing at least drainage of the battery or even fire caused by the sparkles because of the 10amps X12V=120W energy on bare copper. Just to warn the people watching this as it is uncertain when you connected the positive terminal to the battery..

Thanks for the video. It’s a lot easier without the foot in cast an an injured shoulder. Good that’s you got help with some of the installation you do. As some one pointed out I think you should put a fuse inline with that plus cable. It’s not to protect the lamps it’s to protect the rest of the electrical system if there be a failure in the lamp circuit. It’s so easy to do and so harmful if you get a fail in the circuit.
@TrackOurJourney

But even though it is not connected to anything but the GS battery? It has its own completely separated circuit.

If you for example fell over an break a lamp so that you got a shortcut (I don’t know if it’s correct english word) the cables get very hot an the insulation will melt and your cable can start a fire. Even though a battery is 12v it’s enough of power to start a fire. It’s like a little welding machine.

oh ok that is good to know! In case of accident.

It’s probably a very little risk that it would happened. How often did you brake a fuse except those times tinkering with something. But since it is so easy to install a fuse it’s a really good thing to do. 👍

Thanks for your informative content. What do you think about adding a relay to the switch as opposed to straight wiring? Thanks
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that is definitely possible, however for me this was easier and more straightforward.

Hallo, whether the LED spotlight can discharge the battery?
@TrackOurJourney
@TrackOurJourney 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't had issues of it discharging the battery as it is off when I don't need it. Over winter during my surgery my bike is on a trickle charger so yeah it has been good.

You didn’t put any fuse protecting this installation, right? It’s risky...!

They're generic lights with a high tolerance for voltage variances from 9v to 36v. As you point out, if too much amperage hits them then yep they definitely could fail without a fuse. They're not connected to any sensitive electronics so not much damage would be done outside of the light burning out. A fuse can always be added in-line near the battery later on if it becomes a recurrent concern. If I was going to jump start the bike then I would just temporarily disconnect the end terminals to be safe.

What’s the best bike to start on?
@TrackOurJourney

I started on a 2016 Duke 390 and I thought that was a good starter bike. I did not know how to ride bicycle prior to learning how to ride a motorcycle. It was just fine :D Something similar would be like a honda 250 dualsport those kinds of bikes where you are seated upright. They are more forgiving. Also they are easier to fix more durable when you drop them. Hope that helps!
