I nearly p**ped myself using this for the very first time yesterday, cutting into a live pipe is scary. Make sure the pipe is secured to the wall allowing you to use some force ie manually, use a professional drill so you don’t get stuck halfway due to lack of power, get the KIT or you’ll find you’re missing loads of adapters… Sadly mine was leaking trough the threads and had to deal with that so have some putty or tape jic. Overall massively impressed and enormously delighted with a great solution and quality product, saved me a massive headache.

Clever device. I could have used this a few years ago. I was helping a friend and his main water valve wouldn't shut off completely. I managed to solder in a ball valve anyway by disconnecting the outlet of the main and putting a container under it to catch the water. This would've been so much easier.

@2E0PZM - that's what I was thinking for the gate valve on my HW cylinder feed that won't close off 100%. Unfortunately, when the 22mm version was delivered I discovered that the valve base where the compressed pipe gets pushed into is about 2" deep and there's no chance of getting it behind the 22mm pipe because it's fixed (as it should be) with pipe clips to a wooden board in the airing cupboard and there's only about 3/4" - 1" max. space between the pipe and the board.
@stephenhookings1985
@stephenhookings1985 4 жыл бұрын
@@andygillespie2101 common issue. The gate valve stops flow of cold water.into HW cylinder right? Mine is 28mm because it supplies two baths. Given 28mm is less common I got my boiler engineer to fit new one. We have indirect cylinder so I had to shut water off to tank in loft and let water drain down over a few days (ie people having baths and showers) once the upper tank was empty there is still water in cylinder but the gate valve is above this - so he could cut out old valve and fit now one. We looked at old one ... Decent amount of chalk on it :-(. Have to recall to operate valve periodically to reduce chance of it happening again. Some hot lemon juice cleaned out old valve. I was wondering if there was an acidic chemical (citric acid, vinegar etc) that could be added to tank, heat up and move around hot system - maybe it would free up the other full bore service valves on hot side? Sorry if what I described isn't your system - but at least it worked for me. Best of luck solving your stuck gate valve.

I’ve had two plumbers in here as well as an inspector and no one could find the main. We think it’s buried in the foundation or something. This will allow me to kill the supply on the line we think is the main which will let me swap out all the old plumbing, finally. I’ll be able to sleep tonight knowing that I can now do the plumbing myself since none of the “pros” we’ve had in here have been any help. Thank you!!!

Once cut the section of pipe below the cutting disc is completely removed separating the pipe within the valve, the spent pipe is then compressed into the valve base on the 15mm EasyFit, (22mm & 28mm do not compress the spent pipe, these valves have a well to store spent / cut pipe ) and replaced with a rubber barrel, this barrel has a 98% bore allowing for virtually a full flow ball valve / approved stopcock to be installed on pressurized pipe up t0 16-bar.

@nauticalmandems 2 жыл бұрын
Seems a bit overkill, if you're moving several rads, draining down a system isn't much extra work. Personally I'd start isolating and pulling off rads while it's draining down anyway so it isn't any extra time or hassle compared to finding a good point to isolate the flow and return. I also wouldn't recommend putting isolation valves on the flow or return anyway as it could prevent the flow of water through your boiler depending on your system.

You need to allow air into the system, which will replace the water and allow water to drain out. Have you a valve on the open vent pipe ( the one which raises up over the f&e tank and terminates above the water line in the tank ) there shouldn’t be one but I have come across them in the past, the system breathes through that pipe and it should allow the air in to enable draining. If there is a valve and you’ve closed it open it back up. It is good practice to have a method of draining at all low points. The leak could be a pin hole due the the thinning of the copper which happened during the bending process, but it could be leaking from higher up and running down to a lower level. Dry the area and watch carefully.

Where does the little round copper pipe go.. do you flush it out to get rid off it.. but looks like a good product though.

great product, where does the bit of pipe stay? also glad to see you take care of your knees. I retired from the gas co. in California, for 30 years. they provided knee pads (soft and hard cap) and a great kneeling pad made by ErgoKneel. the boss gave it to me on retirement 7 years ago and i still use it. point is, i`m 72 and the knees still work well. yall take care of your bodies.

Just purchased one through your amazon link - this will save me flooding the house! [edit] purchased, watched the video(twice), read the instructions... damn thing jammed up, couldn’t align the dots and now i’m in deeper than before I started - seems like a good idea, now I wish i’d called a plumber in the beginning - £40 down the drain:(

An idiot installed a 15mm valve washing machine tap on a cold feed that feeds the boiler and the same on the hot feed comes out the boiler. Is it best to use compression blanking nut (super glue the nut) or change it and fit isolation valve? It's just I don't want the tenant to draw water from it. Cheers

What's the blue indicator on the socket for? You didn't tell us, please tell us, I'm going out of my mind. Wicked product though
@dangunning1868

Probably for the 22mm pipe? I guess you would need to crimp/cut the 22 more than the 15 and they probably only make one socket rather than two.

Great piece of kit, wonder what it would have looked like if you took it off again.

It looks like the second step is drilling a stop into the pipe. If you take it off you have essentially cut out a small section of the pipe out.

What happens to the displaced copper,is it just pushed to the sides,or is it just sitting in the inside of the pipe,my concern is will it affect any joints or other valves with water pressure ramming it against possible valves.

Do these work on the imperial pipes that are close to 15mm but not the same size?

Try it on 60 year old 1/2 inch copper,the drill wouldn’t touch it,had to use a 3/8 square drive and ratchet and only just got it to cut through, easy to fit after that and works really well after my stop tap was blocked by my new gas main being installed right in front of it

I have just tried to fit an Aladdin Isolator and failed. First, my 20v Ferrex drill would not drive the cutter into the pipe so, I had to use a ratchet. As the slug approached the back of the pipe it stopped moving forward so, the red line was not aligned with front of the collar. I had to press the valve spindle in against the water pressure(3.5bar) in order to fit the plastic collar but despite using a 12v drill at half torque and running the screws in sequentially the collar split! I now find that the valve does not fully close! How I wish I had simply used the snatch method which I have done on previous occasions when extending c/h systems.

Update: I have been contacted by email by Aladdin with 2 options to resolve the problem. I am impressed by their rapid response and offer of help. It appears the problem is that I have an old, hard, thicker walled tube.

My parents live in a block of maisonettes and the stopcock for theirs is external and seized up and so if they need anything done they have to shut off the whole building, would this work as a being a stopcock if fitted on the incoming supply internally.

I've had to work in condominiums where there is no shut off for individual units. There are two shut offs for the entire building: one for the north 20 units, and one shut off for the twenty units on the south end. The architect should be in jail! Anyway, to do any plumbing work, you have to schedule a shut off three days in advance, and they give you perhaps a half hour window. Absolutely insane. Slade Avenue, Pikesville, Maryland..

Good idea of this but does it restrict flow more than a normal iso valve ?

Remember using something similar many years ago but it was a kind of explosive charge that that went off when you hit a piston very sharply with a hammer. Used on a huge malleable iron heating system to install one extra radiator. Saved a huge amount of time.
@mayolivia1
@mayolivia1 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, this is nothing like the exploding tee, all debris and spent pipe is kept separate from the flow and retained in the valve base, as the pipe is removed a barrel with a 98% bore replaces the pipe section, this encapsulates a spindle to fully isolate supply, once the handle is fitting you then open and close as a regular ball valve, however EasyFit is also WRAS approved as a stopcock. Warrantied for 10-years.
