Needed to replace 3 pieces of damaged siding on the back of my house. Got a quote for $2,300 from a local contractor. Watched this video and sourced the tools and materials myself. Total investment: $43. Learned two lessons today: 1) always watch the RenoVision video, 2) never call that contractor again. You are so great at giving people the confidence to tackle projects that look intimidating. Thank you.

As a tradesman, been around the block, trained many people, no questions dumb and every little thing needs to be explained, it’s easy to leave out a step because a person knows what they are doing, but this video is great for all levels of skill. I try and remember when I knew nothing and basics are the most important thing. Also there is nothing more satisfying than having an apprentice have “ah,now I understand”, when the light bulb goes off you know you have taught well.this video shows that nicely. We all had to learn what we know. Keep up the great training.

Just make sure that you don't follow in the footsteps of a man; be sure to exert more effort to remain feminine. Hopefully you won't take this personally, it's just that we have an enormous, enormous, enormous problem with women completely forgetting what it means to be a woman. The majority of women even dress more like men than women. So, 90% of my reason for writing this is that particular problem. So, to any women who might stumble upon all the DIY videos men publish, don't neglect watching videos on "how to be feminine" and "how to be ladylike". You'll notice that such women aren't hammering nails into wood and wearing hardhats and tool belts. Also, don't forget that you can use your feminine charm to ask a man to do these things for you. It's men who started doing these things in the first place, anyway.

I am glad you messed up and had to take some panels off to press the bottom up and make sure it clips to the top of the siding below it. I had no idea that was a thing, now I will remember when I install siding on my house. Watching someone have to redo work really drives it into my memory, as I hate having to do that! I am glad you do not edit out mistakes. First time doing vinyl siding so I have a lot to learn, I will have to watch a few more videos before I start. This is the first video I really watched in detail. I have learned a lot already, thanks!

Another informative video, not only showing the 'hows' but explaining the 'whys'. Thank you for sharing! Regarding the overlap - wind is surely a factor to be considered, but also.... we usually overlapped so that the butt end of the overlapped piece isn't visible from the main focal points ie. the entry door or as you approach the home. (makes the joints sort of 'disappear')

In all the years of hanging vinyl siding, we've " never " put seams where a full panel can be installed. The cut-offs can be used somewhere else as starters or finishers. If it's too keep your cost down which would be very little, so be it. Last, mitered J-channels at doors, windows, etc. makes for a nice custom job. I like the color.

two power tools out of 5 that that every DIYER should own - angle grinder (used for tiling, siding, flooring, plumbing, metal work, removing stubborn nails/screws just snip them off with the blade) and a Wiggle Saw AKA Oscillating tool. Great for floor installations if you need to cut a section out of the door jamb to slide the piece under, and windows/doors to remove the excess shims, even drywall cut outs (if you don't own a router). Get the cordless models if your budget allows, worth the extra, especially if you are tied into a single manufacturer with a battery system. The others would be a drill/driver, Sawzall and a skillsaw. With that and some Home RenoVisionDIY watching you can build just about anything.

I’ve been in construction my whole life mostly a trim carpenter /cabinet builder and remodeling. I’m doing vinyl siding for the first time in the next week or so due to a job that I’ve taken on. I was on KZbin looking for installation videos because I want to do a good job and earn another happy customer. yours was the second one I watched I believe I’m going to stick with you thank you for teaching an old dog new tricks I am definitely subscribing and joining thank you so much

I thought I was through with renovating this house but my brother wanted to screen in our covered porch. I took the aluminum siding off to find lots of rot. The covered patio is attached to a shed that is half built in a hill. I'm glad you are starting at the very beginning because not too many vinyl siding videos do. I love that you handle projects from a-z because novice like me need to know everything so we don't miss a step.

I agree. Very cool. He was showing off a little bit, but he has the right. After all, look at all the ‘whoops’ of electrical tape he has wrapped around his skilsaw cord. Not the first time the man has cut a board quickly! I once had a foreman tell me and others NOT to sacrifice ‘speed’ for ‘efficiency’. However, if you can do both, you should. This man has earned his stripes. BTW, Carhartt coats run one size too big, so buy a size smaller. Cheers

What you don't need is to use the Name of the Lord in vain over trivial little building matters. Why do you feel the need to disrespect the Lord for nothing but a few likes on KZbin? Dude, He is the King of Kings; the Lord of Lords and all power in Heaven and earth has been given unto Him. And the entire judgement is in His hands. He is not a baby in a crib anymore. It will be wise to show some respect!

you talked about making sure how you nail to prevent buckling. however, when you cut the panel for the overlap you made it so tight that there is no room for expansion between the nailing tab of the pieces. I installed vinyl siding for over 30 years. I was surprised on how well you did almost all of the installation. there are a lot of people online giving out very bad info on this. oh, why in the world are you both using such monster framing hammers to do this work? it is like using a framing hammer for custom cabinet work. keep up the good work. robert

Is there a video of this project being finished up? Particularly curious how the cement board part was installed. And is there a reason why you didn't remove the super old siding too?
@HomeRenoVisionDIY
@HomeRenoVisionDIY 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, The video showing the entire exterior is still in production. We will have elements of the cement board and how we finish it for sure. The old siding is actually structural when it comes to balloon framing as it transfers load from 1 stud to another. It also acts as a home skin just like osb would so I thought it would be best to leave it since it was dry and hard. we don't get termites up here so wood tends to outperform in a colder climate. Cheers!
