I produced the video to show how to install the solar charger but my doorbell is on the porch so it does not get any sunlight so I am not sure if it works. I had the wasserstein solar panel that worked for a while but is no longer working. I hope this information helps. I know that ring now has a solar panel so that might be the way to go. I have now used the solar panel for 8 months and it keeps my ring video battery at full strength. It is so nice to not have to charge the battery. Great product.

Weird that the ring needs to be wired to ac, but the solar panel puts out dc.

The ring is not wired to ac, it’s wired to your existing doorbell which is DC.

I cannot believe Ring does not make a solar panel that does this, all they have is the solar panel that fits behind the doorbell 2 but that does not work in indirect sunlight, so finding this solar panel that wires into the Ring Doorbell 2 is a great find, keep up the good work, I will purchase one of these to keep my ring battery charged up since its sitting in indirect sunlight that the Ring base solar paenl does not work in. My only question is how long is the wiring for this solar panel as I have to run it about 10 feet to get to direct sunlight?

I think Ring now has a solar panel. The cord is about 12 feet.

It is really designed for the ring video doorbell. I’ve never tried it on our regular doorbell, so I really don’t know if that would work. You could probably give it a try. Best of luck and let us know what you find out.

You did everything great but you should’ve gave the battery a full charge before you did that and hook up everything together but you did an excellent job

I have no access to direct sunlight. WIll general ambient light (it is in a shaded area where everything is painted white which will reflect indirect light) have any benefit? Will it charge enough to make a difference?

That is a great question. I would not purchase it unless you have direct sunlight.

@Eucalyptus. On our solar panel it could go either way. So there wasn't just a positive and a negative. You probably figured it out by now if not good luck and hopefully you subscribe to Big Al repairs.

@@BigAl-1 Yup, just connected negative on the left and positive on the right and left it like that. It doesn't say its charging but every few days it shows 100% and goes all the way to around 80% and then charges back. Thanks for the reply, sir!

@Ozone ozone. It what's working well for over a year and then I got a new wi-fi system and I don't know if that did something to it but then it stopped working. Wasserstein did send me a new one and I'm in the process of getting it set up again. It is sure nice to have because then you don't have to worry about charging the battery when you go out of town or on vacation. I purchased two of them and I can't get them to work consistently at all. Even in bright direct sunlight it rarely charges. Tried switching wires, panel position, nothing. It would be nice if mine worked as well as yours do.

bought one of these for a RIng2 via amazon which was described as for ring2, mine came with a microusb ribbon connector to go straight into the battery. all seemed well for the first day and it charged it from 68 to 90% on a fairly overcast day but with the micros usb in place the doorbell wont bootup if i remove it is instantly boots up and work so a little confused as to why the micro usb is stopping it from working

@@BigAl-1 sorry the brand i bought wasnt actually wasserstein i believed it was but it isnt. Played around with it alot today and for some reason its working again. I have no explanation why but now its working its not going to be touched. On the plus side in the few hours it was working its taken it drom the 90% mark to 100%

Wow! That looks terrible!!! Never saw someone take so long to screw in 2 screws for solar panel into wood. Try getting a longer bit for your drill to get past the arm of the solar panel bracket. Exposed wires look like 💩

Why go through this elaborate charade, when you can just buy the hard-wired doorbell version?

Great question. The reason is because the wiring on the original doorbell did not face outward so we would need to somehow run the wiring around the door. Hopefully that answers your question. Have a great day!

My house didn't have a wired doorbell so it wasn't an option for me. Battery or solar is practical and easier than running wiring through the wall, under the floor or through the ceiling.
