You know I been a strict mac user for over 20 years and this is the first time I have ever been fed up with apple failing their updates for older mac computer in which mine became virused Was left with no choice but to try and factory restore it and even more fed up with paying so much for that laptop and still the apple restore failed on the system Was almost ready to throw the thing out the window and then one very little thing called the windows 10 installer usb saved the day I wiped out my entire useless mac os which cant get updates or any working browsers anyway After I wiped out the entire mac hard drive I installed windows 10 from boot and now it's a useful computer again just runs windows 10 no more buggy mac os and I dont even miss it I now have a great running computer again

Try finding a lightweight "flavor" (version) of linux. Might be a pain to get installed, BUT, Linux will (generally) run faster on these (or any) machines than basically anything else. Ready to throw another computer out the window? Try putting linux on it & playing around. At the absolute least, if you truly are throwing away a computer, you should pull out your hard drive, and beat it to death with a sledgehammer or something, unless you don't care about your data possibly being picked up off of your computer laying on the side of the road. .........or take it to an electronics recycling center where they guarantee data safety or something. Anyway, glad you got your mac working again - although, I think it could've been fixed more easily than you did - and still have mac OS on it. :) Take care!

Anyone else stuck on "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation" ? have this issue on a late 2013 iMac 27in. I've heard that it's not possible to install Windows 10 on these iMacs without slipstreaming the Windows ISO file with ALL the drivers. The support drivers are outdated, apparently, and only the audio driver is signed for Win10 20H2 - meaning this can't work. I've posted to numerous forums and, so far, no one who owns a late 2013 iMac has been able to use the latest version of Windows 10 only Version 1803 and below will work. I have trouble believing that.

Thanks. I found this out after coming to the conclusion that BootCamp Assistant no longer works for Windows10 ISOs because of the FAT32 4GB file size limitation and the Win10 ISO has exceeded that number. Apple will not upgrade BCA because they have no motivation to do so. Also, the new Macs are incapable of running Windows at all on native hardware due to using the Apple ARM CPU (incompatible with all versions of Windows now and in the future - MS has no plans to go to the ARM processors currently, but may do so in the future - but that's a good 5 years away even if they made that decision).

I still feel Apple made a HUGE mistake in going to their own processor, not because of performance nor anything like that, but because of the inability to dual boot with Windows (recall, this was a HUGE incentive for dual OS people - millions of them - to buy a Mac knowing they could just reboot into Windows - it was a 2 machines for the price of 1). When OSX came out running on an x64 platform, it was one of the smartest moves to get converts (w/dual booting being available). Now, they're shooting themselves in the foot and market share will certainly go down. I'd put money on it!

I was gonna use this hard drive that I took out of my mom's computer for installing macos x onto. I put the hard drive in the MacBook and then I noticed it said EFI boot. I went on to it and it booted windows normally just like it was from the original computer. Im now trying figure out how to install the frivers for this because I didnt use bootcamp.

Ok nevermind this worked. I tried the other Bootcamp Assistant method and it gave me the MBR GPT error. But for some reason unetbootin does a better job of loading the drivers onto the usb. Also windows doesnt seem to like how Bootcamp partitions drives. And Disk Utility made it work fine. Thanks for this. FINALLY got mine to work!

Hey mate, just googled that error code for you and it says that your Windows installation has a damaged or missing file. What I would do if I was in your shoes, is re-download the April 2018 Windows 10 ISO and re-install it fresh.

I got the same thing. After a bit of googling it seems that error points to a problem in the install.wim file which has a size of 4.4 gb. Apparently that’s too big to run off a drive formatted to FAT, but not a problem for ExFAT. The problem is ExFAT drives aren’t bootable 😑 Still looking into a solution....

I was able to successfully install windows onto my Mac using a drive created with windows update assistant running on an instance of windows on parallels....which is on my Mac. 😂 I will throw this out there - while I was able to successfully install windows, when I had to reboot the computer I get an error and it won’t boot in again. Not sure what to do there and haven’t had time to work on it since. Maybe you can help with that

Whenever I switch to the Windows hard drive it says no bootable device. When on MacOS startup choices I have 2 hard drives available: MacOS (750GB) Untitled (250GB) - (This is windows and I named it windows. Selecting MacOS it works fine, selecting the Untitled gives me the “no bootable device” error. If I start the Mac and hold the Alt key I have a different hard drive to chose from: MacOS - works EFI Boot - works - (this is the Windows boot that works.) I went to the disk utility to see what drives it sees and the windows one is different. MacOS - (750 GB) disk0s3 - (250 GB) Why aren’t they the same even in the same program?! I can swap between the drives using the boot screen, but the drives aren’t what I named it. (Assuming the different named drives are really the same ones) The disk Utility shows different drives and the ones that work are only accessible by starting up funky. Please let me know if you know what my issue is and you can help.

Hey mate, you can actually install Windows without an activation key, just download the ISO online and when it asks you for it, just select I don't have a product key - that'll put Windows in trial mode. Once it's fully installed and if everything works ok, you can then buy an activation key to unlock all the features, but if it doesn't work at least you don't lose out.

Hi guys. So to make it works, I had to download and burned a dvd with W7 on it. I made a bootcamp. I’vehad some issues when I was at the « hard disk location » step because I have 2 internal hardrive so then i have removed my ssd and i was able to select the good internal hard disk. Once W7 was installed, I’ve bought a W10 activation key and it works. Now I got my GTX 1060 6G OC fully functional and I’m running GTA V I’m ultra, Forza Horizon 4 in high, Nier Automata in ultra for example (ahah didn’t played other games for now). But you should know that I got 2 graphic cards inside my computer. Cuz when when I’m booting OSX, sometimes I got black screen, so my second graphics cards (connected to another screen and compatible with this model) helps me in those cases to « launch » the computer. Vtudio hey mate, i wasn’t able to use iso files because i was,’t able to select a file into bootcamp (probably because I’ve downloaded a version of Sierra that wasn’t official (or I used an other app to make it possible to use this OS version on my 2008 Mac Pro, I don’t remember, anyway). I think that if I couldn’t use the feature into bootcamp was maybe because of my version of Sierra. I invite you to read how I did in my answer below if one of your subscribers has the same issue.

I know this is late but I found a fix. You need to download a software called Tuxera NTFS. This allows you to format the partition in a way that is compatible for Windows.

Start with the fat32 usb to be able to choose from bootmenu, when the Install.wim error pops-up, just switch to exfat USB, retry and proceed. This worked for me

Using a Mac Pro 3,1 (early 2008) and Mac OS Mojave 10.14.6. Installation to the Bootstick with Bootcamp (original and modified Info.plist) doesn't work. With Unetbootin I could create a bootstick (stucks at 415, but wait around 10 minutes and it keeps going), but after rebooting and selecting the Efi-Boostick it freezes all the time. iMac 2011 is a problem with Windows if you install from EFI boot. You need to install from legacy bios. To do this simply install from a DVD-R rather than a USB flash drive.

You’re the goat for this one, Chief! Works like a charm. The latest windows 10 iso is too large for msdot and requires the external hard drive to be exFAT, but boot camp automatically reformats ssd to msdot. With this workaround I can play my favorite games again!

Apple blocked the Unetbootin, when you try to open it, Mac recognizes it as unstable or corrupted system file and refuses to launch it

Hey brother, first of all awesome video thank you for the help!, I'm having a couple of problems that's preventing me from starting the process. You said you had a SATAII drive when you were installing windows but you were installing it in your PCIe SSD. I saw when you made the partition that your drive (either the ssd or sataii hdd) was internal. I have a Early 2009 Mac Pro flashed into a 5,1 in it I have a PCIe m.2 SSD Samsung SM951 and a Sonnet with a Samsung 860 PRO and a Samsung EVO but ALL 3 OF THOSE DRIVES COME UP AS EXTERNAL! This is making it impossible to run a legit bootcamp assistant as they are all EXTERNAL. So, Im not sure how to proceed I have read a couple of way around this but I'm not sure as to how they work. Someone installed WINDOWS 10 using bootcamp somehow on a SATAii drive they had on the first SATA SLOT then used WINCLONE to clone it and expanded it on their SM951 that had a FAT32 Partition. But again I DONT KNOW HOW THEY INSTALLED WIN10 using bootcamp. PLEASE HELP OR PLEASE POINT ME IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION! I have this Mac Pro with High Sierra 10.13.6 please help good sir.

Is it possible to do this and delete all partitions in Windows setup, and make 1 NTFS partition so the Mac only runs windows? I have an old Mac mini which will only go as high as MacOS 10.7 Lion which for the most part is now unsupported

most likely but make sure not to erase the recovery partition as it is very hard to get that back (from experience)

You can install the free software rEFInd on Mac OS and then you can choose from the operating systems that are installed on you’re drive

Getting "Windows could not prepare the computer to boot into the next phase of installation" error message. After 3 solid days of tweaking the iMac (late 2013 27in), I'm about to give up on dual booting windows 10 20H2. I'm going to try again with an older ISO if I can find one (MS does not provide ISOs anymore, so this could take a very long time to find an older one that's not been infected purposely by a rootkit). Why can't Apple just come out and say "We Hate Windows Users"? UGH!!!!

Hello. Can anybody help me. MacPro 4.1(5.1) HighSierra. My Mac OS installed on Samsung PCIe M.2 ACHI 512Gb disk. I cannot make installation Win 10 via BootCamp. Because PCI disk in Mac defined as External disk. I have other Samsung PCIe NVMe disk 960, 512 gb. High Sierra see this disk, and I try to install Win 10 to this disk. But I always get "we couldn't install windows in this region..." I've tried convert to GPT, re-formatted disk to nfs, fat, exfat etc... Bt no any effect. Let me know is it possible to install win 10 to PSIe nvme disk in my case?? Thank you!!!

I have tried that out on my MacBook Pro and then, it didn't recognise anything so, I had to flash the EFI-ROM! So, I've read a bit on the internet about it. Are you crazy? Are you conscious about what you've doing? These Macs from pre-2013 are not UEFI-copliant computers! Windows will sign the EFI with signatures which can break your EFI by fragmenting the NVRAM. Why do you recommend this to users? Do you want them to break their Macs?

UnetBootin got stuck halfway through making the bootable drive (415 of 942 files extracted). I think this might be because my Drive is Formatted to ExFat so it can handle sizes beyond 4Gb, but the UnetBootin website says it only supports Fat32. I'll type an update once I get the issue fixed.

This is no longer the preferred method as of 2019, in fact this method can brick your mobo permanently as windows is corrupting the firmware. Install Windows 10 using a created install DVD and go from there.
