hey mr.tampatec, this video reminds me that i did this exact same procedure 43 years ago on my 1973 datsun 240Z as a kill switch to prevent it from being stolen. i did this because it had been stolen 2 times within the first year i owned it and 50 Z's were being stolen back then due to so many on the road. luckly, it was recovered each time, stripped of course, i still have that 240Z in my garage being restored to it's original condition. thank you for your enjoyable expertise as usual. dennis, san diego calif.

You can also use a relay instead. All you need is a power source that turns on with the key. Then you don't have to worry about the switch

Hey so I have 3 power outlets, 2 in front and 1 in rear.. if I connect to the rear would the switch only control that one or all?

My problem is just the opposite. When i turn the key off in my 2014 Honda, the cigar lighter power dies. So I can't charge my cell phone unless the power (key) is ON!

Jim Nichols lol just like my comment above. my 98 ram outlets shut off when the key was out but in my 2013 f150 they are powered constantly. old or new its kind of hit and miss. especially when there are multiple outlets in the vehicle. one might be constant but the other could be ignition switched.

you'd think car makers would put the power port on a time-out circuit.

bgregg55 yeah theyre actually pretty hit or miss believe it or not. my 98 ram i believe was wired to ignition by factory so you dont kill the battery but on my 2013 f150 in the backseat, its constant. thats where i charge my phone lol so i have to plug and unplug when i want to use it. no big deal for newer cars as most electronics will power down completely when the battery is drained just enough for the car to start, making it pretty hard to kill a newer battery. very clean install overall. i just wouldnt go through all that work just for something that should work like you think it should lol.

Has your quick connect held up? I will never use one ever again. All junk and ruin the wires and connection.

I still can't believe they managed to make the interior of a Mustang this cheap. A chinese rip off car is like a Rolls Royce in comparison to most american cars from that period.

Space Cowboy if they aren't done perfectly, they corrode and don't provide perfect contact. I prefer male/female crimp connectors, but they can be hard to separate.

We call them Vamps or (Vampire Clips) they will ruin any wire harness. They get fitted incorrectly or corrode, seen them used exposed to elements and people expect them to keep working. They are down right awful.

@@spacecowboy1924 the quick connects are actually designed to cut through the wire insulation without stripping. As an electrician I have used them extensively on 240V AC circuits as well with no problems, bearing in mind not to overrate the current carrying capacity of the bridge connector....
@spacecowboy1924

I work with dc electricity on a daily and they are more susceptible to resistance and corrosion. And usually ttaps aren't the greatest connection. Resistance leads to heat and at high current that will melt wires

RELAY... RELAY...RELAY. no need to drill holes in your car to install a generic switch. What if you set your phone down over the switch and forget about it during the day... It could happen.

i was going to complement your installer skills until u pulled out that quick-connect. in my experience, those things lead to intermittents & are a poor substitute for soldered connections. but maybe my technique using them wasn't right. looks like you have done a lot more installs then me. also, u never mentioned in the tv video(or i missed it) whether the tv works while driving. i'd hate to think people are driving & viewing tv now.

there is nothing wrong with spade terminals! a vehicles electronics are inundated with them! mostly in the form of multi pin connectors just small versions of what you see here
