solid install doesn't prevent the wood from rotting over time. above the joist system is the best way to go gents don't spend this kind of money to have it all to rot 10-15 years down the road. ABOVE Joist systems....

Nice! How did you finish the small section on the other side of the beam?

I started with main rail and full board and ended up with wall trim and almost two inches cut from one side of the board. The cut edge was installed in the wall trim and the other edge was installed to the last main rail.

Great job. I'm thinking about installing this. under my. deck. which is actually a walkout basement with a slide in glass door. I was just wondering, how is it holding up? I'm up in the NE in Massachusetts. Didn't get a lot of snow this winter, but usually we do. So I'm wondering what part of the country you live in. Thank you. Great video. Very informative.

Three years ago I installed an under deck system for my walkout basement as well. I used a corrugated very lightweight material and just made sure it had a little pitch away from the house, the deck is 32 feet wide and I used a seamless gutter, works perfect. This year I am going to install a screen of some sort to prevent birds from making nests in there lol

Quick question - is this waterproof or is it prone to leaks on the edge that sits next to the wall / exterior of the house? We just had a new deck installed, and the same contractor installed this Ziup finished ceiling and deck drain system. However, we have leaks dripping along the seam closest to the house?

It should not leak if properly installed. But sometimes water can leak from the siding that’s nothing to do with the system itself

Contractor should have added flashing at ledger board against the house to ensure water is diverted to where you want it to flow.

Did you do anything about the cantilever section beyond the beam? Where I live, besides water dripping from above; it would be a haven for squirrels to nest.

I’m thinking about using soffit material and vinyl J channel. Not sure if it is worth the effort 🤔; that close to the end of the deck.@@DanielDemir

I cut back on end of the short rails to fit into J channel. The other end of the rail is screwed into a thin board for pitch. The end of the panel sit flat on the J channel, while the other end allows water to drip into the gutter. Would add a photo, if I knew how.

But what about the structural support (diagonal board) he removed at the beginning of the video? That deck is going to rock side to side a lot now. Really bad, and unsafe, to remove that diagonal support board. In my area you’d fail inspection without that, or 45degree supports on each side of each deck post to prevent the deck from rocking side to side. Check with your building code before you attempt that.

@DanielDemir So on the legs of the deck, you put 45 degree posts to stop the side to side sway? (Like that 45-degree cross board did?). I love the system, and you did a great job on the video. I'm just trying to solve how to remove that 45-degree board across the bottom of my deck (that was extremely necessary on my deck to stop the side to side motion). I removed the 45-degree posts on the legs of my deck because I kept hitting my head on them. A structural engineer told me the cross board on the bottom (from corner to corner) was a stronger solution. Now, I can't solve how to install an underdeck system with that board in the way.
