I could understand 1 stud, but there were 2 and I'm thinking that one of those is NOT just for a cripple stud. Option 1 is best...cut no studs.

We are cutting on a non load bearing wall. These vents are put in all the time in every state across the USA. Just look above your laundry room door.

What is holding the grill in place? just the drywall?

Yes, that's right, just the drywall. I would recommend some drywall anchors. The item is not heavy, but over time you'll need to be replacing that little paper thing inside and removing one side or the other to replace it. Anchors man, Anchors.

Cutting the studs is NOT advisable. Whoever is watching this video should continue doing research until you identify a path that does not affect wall structural components.
