Its an overall technique to bump the PRs but eventually youll reach a point where raw strength will need to improve to progress past the wall
@danielweber4090
@danielweber4090 Жыл бұрын
well obviously a weak person can’t bench as much as a strong one. i don’t see the point of this comment. i don’t think anyone saw this and thought they can bench 1000lbs now. the point is to have a more efficient, stable, bench press
@AonGuardian
@AonGuardian Жыл бұрын
@@danielweber4090 youre thinking in extremes. If you engage more than just anterior delts, triceps, and pecs, then youll find a more efficient transfer of momentum into lifting heavier. Whether its just the bar as a PR or 1000 pounds in your example, using better mechanics can lead to better gains
@AonGuardian
@AonGuardian Жыл бұрын
@@danielweber4090 everyone reaches that wall or plateau in strength output. Improving on form or technique can push back that wall just a bit (or a sizable amount if form was really lacking)

I didn’t try my max bench with this but I got 365 up like it was 225 when I used this and braced my back and lats. I was on my 6-7th set and kind of burned out so I was surprised. I knew I could get it if I pushed, but it felt so light lol

Does this translate to heavier weights only, or does it also help in increasing strength/hypertrophy in the chest muscle?

Strength and hypertrophy is not mutually exclusive, but better leg drive will improve bench performance
@facelessnameless
@facelessnameless Жыл бұрын
Generally hypertrophy training favours disadvantaging a lift, getting more out of less weight. This is a technique to make a movement more efficient - rather than to increase mechanical tension. I wouldn't focus on leg drive if hypertrophy is your goal
@sirtheplague366
@sirtheplague366 Жыл бұрын
@@facelessnamelessWith leg drive you can move more weight on the concentric, and load even more than usual on the eccentric, which is stronger than the concentric. Creating more mechanical tension and allow your body to adapt to heavier weight
@facelessnameless
@facelessnameless Жыл бұрын
@@sirtheplague366 I see that argument used a lot but it always spirals to mechanical advantage for strength gain and favoring low reps high weight which is not ideal for hypertrophy specifically

Bro everyone says optimal bench should be elbows not flared out and should be in 40-70⁰ and also movement of elbow should be stacked and bar path should be J and all that.But Jen Thompson never does any of that. I mean what is right?

I’ve people would constantly have the leg drive active when picking up the bar, lowering the bar and pushing back up. What do you guys think is that good or should it be timed?

@Jdl223
@Jdl223 2 ай бұрын
Using your legs to hold tight and still isn't drive. It's where this confusion comes from, so constant isn't driving its locking in. Now what he's showing here is leg driving and called a heave. If you can move in anyway on the bench that means you have loose form and are inviting power to leak out somewhere. Mobility is the opposite of stability.

It has never made any sense to me to put that huge arch in your back. I put my feet on the bench flatten my back on the bench and push. It helps my core but it is harder to push the weight but you start adding weight over time.
