Parenting classes have also taught that if we are beyond capacity with HALT emotions (hungry, angry, lonely, tired) that's our responsibility to manage. We can get to bed earlier, take a break, grab a snack, walk it off... if I get irritable that is up to me to manage without leaking mean spiritedness all over my family or anyone else. Long as I manage those and my ADHD responsibly, I do much better. When I catch myself irritable it's usually that I have jilted myself out some level of self care when it comes to those things (usually tired). And when my sons get tired, they're even more destructive than when they're hungry. Dho! I habe passed it down. Uh oh. Best time to correct is now. Thank God for this opportunity. Phew!

Thanks Dan. I've learnt how to use a personal compass. I dislike bullies and would usually distance myself from culprits but still be nice to them. However there are those who sniff you out and you have to deal with them. Right now, a false allegation was made against me. So ridiculous, Im being accused of having a negative aura towards this particular person. Yet I have always been friendly. She ended up coming round to my desk and throwing work at me. After meeting with management about this Im waiting for HR to investigate as she's just added something else against me in this meeting. Again ridiculous and couldn't justify or any evidence in the meeting. Ive taken a week off work because it's quiet upsetting.

Wow. That was good advice. My father was really weak, he handed over all of his power to my Mum. I never really noticed that he didn't stand up for me, I just thought that I couldn't get through to my Mum. I just thought I was constantly upset and I thought that that upset would go if I could just ''get through'' to my mum. Then I met a man who replaced stone walling and silent treatment with verbal abuse. I didn't realise that I'd ended up with my MOTHER My daughter is 21. I am going to say that to her, when it comes up. I won't storm in to her bedroom and tell her right now!

I used to date a Magnolia, she ended up being kinda boring. I have a Master's degree now in Counter Annoyance. When they're all in your face, like, "So how's it going Robbbb? " (stupid smirk , Oh Lord, here it comes) I'm like " It's been a productive morning, Tracey. But how can we make it even more productive?" Then I start quoting scripture and cool stories from the Bible. Watch them run for the hills. Or outside for a vape. All the backstabby gallightey gossipy crap is what we bought into from age 20-30 , recently, a road cyclist trainer guy, called that our "Unicorn Years". Loved that. Great segment Dan, thanks.

True, there's a certain type of person who sniffs me out, and it's the person who gains a sense of belonging from excluding me. The first few times it happened I didn't deal with it well, but the job I've been in two years now, I looked around the other day and realise that I have not ignored her as in ignored her back but I ignored the situation. It's been such a long process becoming this person who can focus on my relationship with myself and therefore, rise above it, keep calm. My family though, they never change. I've learned that they will never let me in to the family unless I agree that I'm sensitive, angry, emotional, demanding et cetera

It helped me to think of work as a training ground with people testing me. I also learned to be positive, but honest, in my speech. It really does change your life. I sailed along enjoying work until I was elected department chair twice. My goal was to improve things for students and I did. Unfortunately, one paranoid teacher turned the whole department against me (some were work “friends” for 20 years). I retired but I still wonder how it happened. My therapist said that sometimes crazy crosses your path. I know it was a perfect storm. I just wish I could have handled it better. Maybe it was simply time to leave.

💕 I’m *sure* that how you handled things (being positive & honest) helped others to learn from your example, and it’s possible that even the paranoid teacher & the ones she manipulated learned from you, maybe they didn’t realize it until years later. @@TheWizardOfWords I agree with the other commenter, Dan. Speaking of your Mother, and your Father also - when I began watching your channel 3 or so years ago, you spoke so lovingly about your parents, a bit about about their careers and their effect on you. I appreciate them for bringing you to the world, and raising you to help create who you are now, because people like you are so needed and rare. And I’ve always loved how you talk about them in your quips & examples, it’s very endearing & entertaining! So, every time I see your videos, I can’t think of you without thinking about your parents, and what wonderful people they must be to have raised a son like you. (I’m not saying that you having nothing to do with it 😂, but you know what I mean). I’m not kidding - when I see your face on the screen, it’s not just you I see & think about, I think of and “see” your parents along with you, yet I have no idea of what they even look like! I think better to leave a toxic workplace if one able to, than fake a loving personality all the time. In those time when somebody is cruel to you, you have to be tough and not soft, so i not necessarily agree with that mentality that i should remember i am X all the time. No. That's the point. I can behave according to the situation. Sometimes you need to share love, sometimes you need to show others why they should never mess with you again.
@TheWizardOfWordsАй бұрын
@MNorbert89, you can show others they ought not to mess with you--without being hateful. There is nothing that you NEED to say that you can't say in a loving way. Your assumption that a loving personality is fake--is troublesome. I think the problem might be that you are mistaking the love that is decision-based (agape) with the love that is warm and romantic and emotion-based (eros). It is decision-based kindness that is espoused in this video. To see the ugliness and dysfunction of "You hurt me so I will hurt you back" all you have to do is look at the rhetoric in U.S. politics.
@i..am..Күн бұрын
You'd be surprised how much people change when you change. I had a toxic boss and multiple coworkers. I was able to build healthy relationships to have smoother team work and there is no toxicity any longer. Sure i work with many narcissists that tried drama with me... but I chose to fix instead of contribute to that energy. Toxic people fear looking bad, you can use that if you're not in the victim mindset.

I am normal but not at all average 😛 I'm here to be included, through reciprocal communication I want to belong but most of all I belong to me. Edited to add, when i read this back it sounds like i bend with the bend, but after dealing with my family i've realised that the *reciprocity* of communication is a boundary for me. Control and keeping things superficial is my mother's own Boundary. Oh. Hang on, just got to the bit about releasing. Maybe a boundary of reciprocity is what's standing in the way of me releasing.

@@TheWizardOfWords Good morning, Dan. 😊 Yesterday, after I sent Maggie her money, I Googled "Super Thanks" because I was curious about it. Yes, I know....I don't have a life, but you probably figured that out by now. 😂 I read that You Tube takes 30 percent of the donation. So if I gift you 50 dollars, You Tube takes 15 dollars of it. Which means that you get 35 dollars out of the 50 dollars. Is that correct? If that is the case, is there a better way to send you a money gift? Is it better to make an extra donation on the Patreon? I noticed you can change the amount that you want to give on the Patreon.
