But... what if your partner speaks too much? It's essential that you know how to interrupt your partner politely so that you have time to demonstrate your speaking skills to the examiner.

These are helpful tips. I thought it was the job of the interlocutor to ensure that both candidates would have enough speaking time during the dialogue in Part 3 and 4 of the speaking test.

I remember my CAE speaking part very well. My partner had amazing vocabulary and spoke very fluently, but he didn't even look at me. He spoke to the interlocutor all the time. I felt uncomfortable and a little sad.

And there are situations (hopefully rare) where somebody is saying untrue or biased things that put you in a bad light. Which is whete I'd be even more forceful with something like "waitwaitwaitwait... I didn't say that". :)

Oh yes I had a partner who was talking like he was on his own in the room so I had to say 'Could I interrupt you and say...' Also he never asked my opinion on anything and started discussing straightaway so I did not have the chance to use discussion expressions. I am a bit nervous that I will be marked down for that. 😔

I think your partner will definitely be marked down but hopefully the examiners saw that you tried and that you were in a difficult situation. As long as you answered the questions and contributed to the tasks, you should be ok.
