As the least edgy rogue ever I can confirm that my ranger friend waited for a time when me and the 'voice of reason' of the team, were away to mess with the barb including insulting his gods to a degree that the barbs hands were tied, the ranger had to, and did die. queue tense week IRL with barbs player and me, telling him MY hands are now tied...my character has to kill yours now. and him KNOWING my rogue is capable of doing that. in the end the only instance of me meta gaming happened, a house would be replaced from the rangers gold stores. the ranger would be revived he was to retire from adventuring, and we would gain a level 12 artificer with VERY specific guildlines of role play since he apparently cannot be trusted.

I like the idea that this ranger is just never shown throughout the entire campaign. They communicate solely through arrows with notes attached to them. Edit: holy fuck this blew up behind my back. Additional idea: ranger gets captured and the party has to save them. When they get to where the ranger is being held they find an empty chair with some loose ropes around it and an arrow suddenly thunks into the rogue again with a note that says “thanks for coming to rescue me, let’s get out of here.”
