"Let the animals interact naturally" could end up with a cat being killed so fast you won't have time to intervene. Getting a lab puppy in a few months, but I already have a 15 year old cat. He’s very calm and loving, but becomes very stressed and depressed whenever another animal is inside the house, so I try to avoid it as much as possible. I’ve my mind set to pay just as much attention to my cat as I always do when I eventually get the puppy. I will also make sure that his favourite spots on the window ledges and such remain inaccessible to the puppy. Hopefully the size of the lab won’t be as alarming if my cat sees him as a baby, but I can’t be sure. I will probably get some calming pheromones once the time comes. Anyone else have any ideas? I’m quite nervous, because I really want my lads to, if not like each other, be able to relax whilst living in such close quarters.

Child animals get along pretty easily. Ducks, cats, deer, dogs, cows, and birds imprint on others. They tend to lose their instincts when they are not a part of their original species. Humans are care takers, we have the ability to give compassion to the entities in need. If you see an animal, and you are not in need of sustainment, help it and let it pass. If an animal needs help, keep it safe. Growth and safe harbor leads to a better world.

My boyfriend has a dog and I have a cat and we’re going to move in together but as each of the animals are currently with our respective parents, we’re flexible about the timing for the move in. I have found many video giving tips on how to introduce them, but none says if there is a preferred order in which which animal moves into a new place first (or if at the same time is best). My worry is that introducing one animal into the home a few days before the other will make that animal very territorial and maybe less accepting of the other. However, introducing them at the same time means especially for my cat that he will feel scared of the dog AND the new home, so double the stress. Any tips?
@sarapatao19795 жыл бұрын
When you move in, keep the dog and the cat in separate rooms and let just the dog out to meet the house. Then do the same with the cat. This will make so that the dog and cat can get comfortable with their surroundings without the added stress of meeting a new animal. Make sure each animal can be outside of their rooms for a few hours a day. Because both animals will be walking around the house at separate times, they will notice eachother's smell and know that there's another animal around. Don't do this for longer than a day or two. After this, you can start to slowly introduce eachother, following the tips from the video.

Today I found an injured cat near to my place. Her leg was broken and she was suffering a lot. We took her to a veterinary clinic and the vet said that they will affix platinum to her hips. Next Monday she will be out from surgery. Me and my mom are considering adopting her. She is approximately 2 years old and she is a stray cat. But the focal point is my dog. I also pet an 11 year old female Labrador in my apartment. How can we minimize the risk of a potential conflict among them? Do you guys have any recommendations?

We got a cat recently and my dog does not do too well with others animals haha. We do have another dog but he is pretty content with other animals. (He is old) my other dog who doesn’t do well with animals is the reason we haven’t given the cat full access to other parts in the house aside from my room while my dog is out. We don’t want any of them to fight so I put my shirt on my new cat and let my dogs sniff it so they can get used to her scent. Then I showed them the cat from a distance. The next step was to kneel down with the cat in my hands to the dog can sniff her up close. Now we have to keep repeating that do that she understands the cat is a new family member

I’ve got a question(anyone can answer) will a kitten that’s 8 weeks old get along with a dog that’s 4 (my dog is a staffy people think their vicious but he’s a sweet dog but he’s still in his puppy stages and he’s really hyper) we putted my kitten in her cat carrier and let my dog sniff it but he kept biting it and barking at her which scared me incase he hurt her. I just really don’t know what to do for them

it can take time but I had a ten year old staffy cross and introduced a new kitten to her and after a bit of hissing and a few days of watching from a distance he got used to the dog and they became the best of friends, and literally inseparable! good luck x

Emily Violett thank you so much for the tips! That’s kinda what we have been doing we usually put him in a leash and hold him so my kitten can walk around the house and get used to the bath room and my brothers room at the moment we just cover the stairs and we let him look at her behind a doggy gait too so it’s kinda going well in my opinon

We have been feeding a stray cat for about 3 months now. I have a 12 year old dog who is pretty much blind and deaf. We are thinking about bringing the cat in. He is nothing but loving and wants attention, but my dog is pretty territorial. I am not certain how this will go. Any Tips would help!

if you've got a fully grown male cat and you bring home a puppy you're looking at a shit show where the puppy will probably be eaten Alive or bullied to death However if you have a fully grown female cat and a puppy it's more Likely The cat will Have maternal instincts towards the puppy especially if she has been a mother herself. And occasionally wipe the dog's ass And clean it Then at about 4 weeks she will discipline the puppy at this point best to keep out of her way and not to get involved, as the cat will know what it's doing, She will have her ways and means that go far beyond human interaction, Then around 8 weeks she will teach the puppy to hunt for food through play Finally By the time the Dog is a Teenager around one year old it's more or less under her thumb & command. The one good thing out of this is that the dog will have a sense and an understanding of how to interact With other cats As well as be able to fend for itself as a trained hunter

I have 2 cats (Axl 4yrs & Rose 3yrs) and have just introduced a puppy (Ronnie 8wks) into the family. My cats have 2 opposite personalities, Axl is very timid and hot headed whilst Rose is very playful and sociable. Rose is much more interested in Ronnie than Axl is. Axl will straight away hiss and run if puppy is active, if puppy is asleep, he will stay in the same room but will still be a little cautious. Rose has been in the same room even touched noses with the puppy, it’s just puppy wants to play and so there has been times when Rose has entered the room without us knowing and Ronnie has chased after her which has now caused Rose to start hissing and growling which is the opposite to what we want.... what advice would you have for us?

@lruddy88205 жыл бұрын
yes but it might take a little longer since the animals have a pattern of behaviour and associations attached to each other, following these steps or variations of them based on your life style and animals should create new associations and patterns of behaviour you just need you break the old ones before you can create the new ones which is where the extra time comes in

I need help! It’s urgent! I got my doxle 3 months ago and she is pretty small and she will not hurt a cat. No matter the circumstance. My 5 year old male cat HATES dogs. He hisses and punches and swats her. I’ve tried introducing them but it doesn’t work. What do I do? (In the past my dad had a poorly trained dog and she chased him around. How do I introduce them?) I tried the scents thing too but he just hissed at the brush with the dog scent!

I really want to get a dog, but we have a cat... Problem is, we got the cat when she was about 12 weeks from a foster system at a Petsmart. Since then, she's stayed indoors at my house for about a year, and no one except me and my parents have come into my house (long story short, we never have visitors). A few months ago we had to go on vacation for a week, so my grandmother came over every day for about a week before we left, to try and get along with the cat. First encounter and she hid the whole time, but by the third encounter she was able to pet her easily, and after the vacation she would sit in my grandmother's lap. So I guess what I'm getting at is: is my cat socialized enough for a dog, or is it a big no, or is it a 50-50 shot? Any advice would be much appreciated.
@jessicar24316 жыл бұрын
when you adopted the cat from the rescue your cat is #1 priority. If she is already very shy or nervous around people, good chance she won't like a dog coming into the picture. If for some reason you end up getting one, I would only get a puppy you have a better chance of them getting along and the dog not attacking the cat (you can introduce older pets, some will get along and some wont but you may have a better chance bringing a young puppy in. Get a breed known to be good with cats possibly Pomeranian, golden retriever and introduce them slowly, Swap scents, positive reinforcement when good, teach puppy boundaries i.e. not to play to intensely as this could scare the cat or the puppy could learn rough play is okay & maybe take it too far one day and kill the cat worst case scenario. If you happen to get a older dog and not puppy who is intensely staring, barking, fixated, intensely licking lips/whining, lunging or growling.. I would be careful as this may not be a good fit/dangerous and would need proper training with a expert & ensure they are in separate rooms when not supervised, and will need to go slow introducing until both are able to to around each other calm, relaxed. I also adopted a cat from pet smart and I believe some of those cats/kittens have already had a rough life, you owe it to that cat who you rescued to a good a happy life. All in all I hope all works out, but keep your cat priority.

So about 7 months ago my cat who was 6weeks at the time which is now around 7 months old hitchhiked my v=car at a red light so we kept her! (she wasn't badly bruised just burned a little oh her oaw but she better now) This is my first cat! I did not have any intentions of buying one or ever having one! Now I have a dog who is 6 year. I still have not let them out together! Im not sure if its too late. I have let the cat out while my dog is in his cage but he either ignores her or growls when she touches him. I have been busy because of school so I havent tried to let them get along. But in a week ill be done w school and that is my first goal! Does anyone have advice of what I should do?? Thank you!!
