Please welcome the first video in our new "How-To" series! In this video, you will learn how to iron an Air Force Blues shirt. This applies to any shirt, though.
Just a few notes about this video:
... My heat setting on my iron is "Cotton" or "High."
... I use heavy starch, and I only starch the outside of the back panels.
... I use a slight jiggling motion while I fan the iron back and forth across the uniform. Never let the Iron sit still, and don't go in only one direction.
... Use steam if you don't want to use starch. Beware stains, though.
If you have questions, leave them in the comment section below! And please check out my channel for other unrelated videos and entertainment.

this is so helpful, thanks. yesterday, myself and 5 other AS100s who are going for AAS got torn to shreds in our first ever ORI...something horrible like 25 gigs among the four of us that had been issued uniforms. i'm gonna pass this on to them

A cool, and sometimes unknown trick, is to starch them to death, and wash it once or twice. When the starch washes out, it softens the fabric just as good as fabric softener and the creases still stay in pretty well. Another trick is to use a spary bottle and lightly spray the fabric, then put some starch on. It mixes with the starch, speeds up ironing and wrinkle removing, and the fabric doesn't get too stiff. I do this all of the time with my CAP BDU's (too young for college/AFROTC D:)

Hahaha, no problem, glad I can help! I'm not laughing at you, by the way- I was an AAS100 myself. (I'm now a former active.) You're going to get gigged heavily merely because you're a representative of the Arnie squadron. I would recommend finding a standardized way to maintain your uniforms, as well as fold them, store them, put them on, take them off, etc, etc.... the more automated you become, the less they can gig you for. Oh, and always have a time hack. Always. Good luck!

@TitanTankNate I'm a first year AFJROTC Cadet. Hopefully, I'll go to a college with a great AFROTC Corp. This really helped.

It depends on the material. Typically, starch is for cotton shirts that are naturally non-stiff, and prone to wrinkles (the two things Starch treats).... you can definitely use it on a T-shirt, but be aware that it might make your shirt scratchy or uncomfortable, and it may cause colors to bleed slightly.

Definitely a valid point, sahr. I think I must have been sniffing too much of the polish from my shoe-shining video!

Sadly, while I was in I learned more watching these vids from ROTC and CAP troops than I did from basic.

Where do you buy metal stiffeners? Is this what you put in behind of your name plate as well to make it stand out? Because I use cardboard right now and it wears down after a while. Are there also metal stiffeners for ribbons?

Thank you so much for this! It really helped me out a lot. I have a question though, is it ok to use Starch if your ironing a Blazer? or just a regular T-Shirt?

Do you have a specific website? Because I goggled metal nameplate stiffener, or ribbon stiffener and I couldn't find anything really.

Can you direct me to a regulation that states where the top sleeve crease is aligned? I have seen some uniforms where the crease is centered down the middle of the epaulet, and others where the crease is centered along the rear edge of the epaulet.

I haven't seen any regulations for it, but it often looks better and hangs better when the creases are aligned with the back of the epaulets.

I don't remember any particular "regulation" for it; I know that traditionally both ROTC and enlisted ORIs requested that your creases be done that way. I suppose it could be a departmental thing?

I just wish our blues shirts had the option to put nice collar stays in instead of the little plastic ones they have sewn in.
