The proper location and equipment to (side) jack up your Lexus IS (or any Lexus/Toyota car) at and how to place your jack stands for a safe and secure lift. If you can’t do the differential or front subframe jacking (like in factory manual), this is how you do sides.
Puck with slit: amzn.to/3kGRBQD
Metal mount: amzn.to/2PQMP52
For the rubber puck, keep any eye on it to ensure that the seam isn't too deep and ends up cutting it in half.
If you’re ordering these parts and need Amazon Prime, there’s a 30-Day Free Trial: amzn.to/3g2GFwI
SAFETY FIRST!!:Some options for hydraulic jack and jack stands. These are probably similar quality to the stuff I have.
Jack Stands $26: amzn.to/2x4HfFL
Aluminum Racing Jack $140: amzn.to/2IhrzBt
If you want a highly rated but HEAVY AF jack. Harbor Freight has their "Daytona" line of low profile professional jacks. They are heavy duty and have gotten good online reviews.

Thank you so much Binh! This is exactly what I was looking for. I was contemplating on cutting my expensive aftermarket sides skirts so I would have more clearance to jack/lift the car at the seam welds. Thanks for showing the other lift areas that can be utilized!

Just don’t use the rear frame rails like I did on the 1IS. Nothing behind the front frame reinforced area should be used. Learned my lesson.

Always have more than two safety points! No matter how safe it looks. I work on my car alone so if it does fall I’m pretty much dead. Doesn’t matter how sturdy or guaranteed my jack or lift is, I’m putting extra extra reassurance to make sure that I’m safe instead of sorry. Trust your guts, if you don’t feel right, than it ain’t gonna hold tight.

Yes always wondered why all these car people use 3 points I found out last night. Had proper jack points on my 250 was working on putting in some lowering springs and had my jack on the LCA abojt 2 inches off that side jack stand. Went to slowly lower the car and I heard a weird sound stopped the lowering but it was too late the jack stand on the side had somehow tipped over and caused the other side to fail too. Luckily no one was under the car. From now on using 3 points always and then the jack would be the 4th. Crazy part is I was working on a nice level ground too. Stay safe people

You literally only need to get the front or rear up a few inches to get a jack under the sub frame or differential. This is supper easy if you have two jacks. Jack up the side a bit, and go in the front or rear with your other jack. If you only have one, jack up your car a bit and lower the wheel onto a few 2x4s. You will have plenty of access to get your jack under the sub frame or diff.

I have the same kind from HF and mine started leaking the same but I took it back for a warranty exchange and got a new one. The good thing about HB is their warranties. Take full advantage of it since we know their quality isn’t the best but price wise it’s affordable and the warranty makes it worth it in my opinion.

To make sure the piece of wood doesn't split, I always make sure its placed so that the jack point/chassis seam is perpendicular to the grain flow of the wood. If its parallel it will split every time.
@TunerwithKids

Yea I’ve had it split. It’s kind of formed to the shape of the foot on the jack stands now. But putting wood between frame and stands is totally unnecessary for 99% of the people.

Ive been in the motor trade as a tech for nearly 10 years and i have just crushed that front bulged out area (next to the seam weld)on my own 2is jacking it up and my heart has just sank to my gut 😭😭💔💔 luckily its not the actual floor pan but rather a piece of metal toyota had welded on top. It looked so convincingly strong too... fml... i feel for that GSF guy 😟

To anyone reading this, do not jack up any lexus IS this way. It is absurdly dangerous the jacking locations this guy uses. He's going to puncture through his floor. Jack the front up with the center jacking point under the motor, and do the rear from the flat spot on the bottom of the rear differential. Place the jack stands on the front and rear of the side seam welds. Just placing the car on these seams will not damage them, only jacking on them will. Dont forget to chock the wheels so they dont move while jacking. The owners manual says very clearly to do it this way idk what this guy is talking about.

@@TunerwithKids Please dont ever trust a scissor jack in anything less than an absolute emergency they do not work for shit. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZzamI2dp8eKi68 Also if your cars too low just drive it onto a piece or two of wood so you get the height you need to use that point with a regular jack. Thats how Lexus says to do it, you didnt follow their instructions so you damaged your undercarriage quite severly. And everyone complains about damaged seam welds, thats because they use that area to jack it up and damage it themselves. Also you didnt even use that jacking puck the right way, that groove on that puck is meant for something bro. Think a little please, these terrible instructions could literally cause someones death.

Hi, love your videos, very good instructions and attention to detail. I have a new to me stock 2010 is350, just turned 100k and I want to do some drain and fills of the transmission. I know the car needs to be pretty level for proper fluid level and overflow draining. I was thinking of using ramps on the front, then jacking the rear and using stands. Sound legit?

Hopefully, by now you learned where your car's "Center Jack Points" (Front & Rear) are.... Other than the 4 pinch-weld jack points, if you want to place Jack Stands under your vehicle (Rear Left/Right & Front Left/Right), you really should use the manufacture specified enter jack points, so you can place those Jack Stands under each Pinch-weld location. Anywhere else, especially those uni-body vehicles, you risk the chance of collapsing a sub-frame or floor pan etc. In your video @10:22 that is just WRONG!!!

I couldnt disagree with this video anymore. And you showed damage that you caused on top of it. Instead a much better way is to jack from either the front or rear jackpoint then put jackstands on the pinch welds and lower the car. I have been doing it this way for years with no damage caused. Get a low profile jack (long reach optional) and you should have no issues. The "frame rails" you referenced are known to bend when used towards the back on GS300/400 for example, so its not a good place to use when you have pinch welds that perfectly fit a jack stand

Daft, dangerous&ridiculous design, far more dangerous if your car is on a road-motorway like many countries now, even in UK without hard shoulders-breakdown lanes, spending half a hour just lifting your car to change a wheel with faffy jack points with your family etc,,, than lower danger of a jack slip in a workshop. Silly&annoying as is the electric IS300H key fob button always losing power with the button pressing even in a umfill pocket. Bad fittings & wouldn’t be suprised if the jack points& similar faffy “bespoke”tooling are scam by manufacturers with dealerships. Shame as my hybrids efficiency & some other features are vgood.
