The jelly is flashy, but if it's done correctly it can be tough to block from behind. Too master it, you should want to work on your hops off one foot and hang time. One way for a small guard to finish an open layup when being chased by bigger players is to lay the ball up like he's going to dunk or just always get up as high as he can. If you look at 0:22 his hand is on the rim. If you can't dunk or get close to dunking don't do it wide open. For dudes who can't get up as high, it's actually good to use finishing in the lane over a tall defender when you have to challenge him head on. To avoid getting blocked you have to be able to finish high off the glass. The spin and rotation off the ball on the jelly when shot like a floater allows the ball to travel well above the big's jumping ability at a fast rate. Also you need to be initiating contact to his chest or midsection depending on how short you are to take away his leverage or ability to get high enough off the floor to block the shot. Look at 0:47 he gets it high off the glass over the big man. Most coaches hate this layup, I'm almost sure, but you must be fundamentally sound in your understanding of how to finish over taller defenders to do it.
