What if you get a placement with a rapper? And you are a music producer that collaborated with another producer using a loop or sample they made? How can we ensure that we both get paid? the royalties and Etc? Once a track is registered, what is expected to do with the work id? Should it be embedded into the metadata of the recording sound file? Is that necessary to go full loop and for BMI (or any other PRO) to collect the royalties? Thank you for a great video!

Super good tutorial! Quick question. What if I had co-produced a song with another producer which got placed on a album. how would I go about getting my percentage/share? I just got my BMI account set up today so I am able to register stuff I have co-produced. I did find the track on the BMI Repetoire. The producer who i co-produced with on the beat is on the writers/composers section as well as the Publishers section. On the step where it asks ''Are there any publishers on this work?'' I would click yes and then proceed to enter the other co producers details? if this is correct how would I know what the ownership % and collection % is? In the Repetoire for the track, I can see the percentage on that song as far as writers/composers and publishers section (controlled %) would that be it or?? Any help or advice would be appreciated! Thank you! PS: There are two other publishers on the BMI Repetoire so 3 in total including the person who coproduced the beat with me.

Good question. So to answer your question yes it is good to sign up for both especially if you will be releasing your own music. And as far as collection all your royalties you could get up to 5 checks off of one song. 1) Streaming Royalties (Distrokid) 2) BMI Publishing 3) Soundexchange (Non Interactive Streams) 4) Music Reports ( Mechanical Royaltiese 5) Sync (If your Song Lands into a TV Show, Movie, Web Series ETC.

I'm trying to figure out how to add an AKA. It's saying, "If you have a pseudonym or AKA, please add the name here. You do have the option to enter up to two pseudonyms or AKAs. After saving please use the (+) option to add additional names." Then I tried to add one and it's saying, "AKAs cannot match your personal name or previous AKA." Good question, there’s two ways BMI knows it’s your song 1. Is from the metadata embedded in your song once you register & upload it to streaming platforms and 2. This is actually the way I use to register my songs If you produced a song for an artist make sure BEFORE YOU RELEASE the song you take care of all your business because it get harder the longer you wait and once money gets involved. But the produce gets 50% of the publishing unless you guys agreed on something else the 25% to the performer and another 25% to the songwriter depening on how many writers wrote on the record.
