This is an effecrive and easy way to join in the round. Thank you! However I've noticed that the one thing missing in the tutorial and the reason why so many are losing a stitich is that Angela does not make it clear that when you slip the stitch from the right needle over the stitch which you have moved from the left neede, she does not say to make sure you move it onto the left needle and leave it there before proceeding to knit. If you look carefully she moves the stitch onto the left needle and leaves it there. That way you will still have the same number of stitches and not lose any. Basically you are just moving 2 stitches around to enable you to join your work

Ohhh thank you so much for this! Such a good tutorial but I was getting ready to cast on one more stitch so that I wouldn't loose my stitch number! Thanks!!
@elenacallegari2933
@elenacallegari2933 5 жыл бұрын
the correct way to do this would actually be to cast on an extra stitch (if you need 40 stitches, you cast on 41), then slip a stitch from left to right and move a stitch over the slipped one, then let it DROP off the needle. then you can move the slipped stitch back to the left needle. if you miss these two passages you'll find yourself with a too tight and twisted junction

Knitters BEWARE. YOU HAVE TO CAST ON ONE EXTRA STITCH then slip the stitch from the left needle to the right- slip the second stitch on the right needle over the stitch you just put onto the left needle- then transfer that stitch onto the left needle. If you don't cast on the extra stitch you will be left wondering why you are one stitch short as many below are complaining about.
@CreatiKnit
@CreatiKnit Жыл бұрын
What happens often is when doing this, the mistake that is made, is that a stitch is being dropped during the transfer. You don't actually have to cast on an extra stitch if done correctly. So make sure that you are "exchanging" the two stitches places. Do not do a slip over. This will cause you to lose a stitch. The first and last stitch are simply trading places. Hope this helps!

Deborah Carlson I always add an extra stitch so when you join in the round and drop it you're left with the correct amount. :) she may have forgotten to explain this step or maybe that's why she had 13 on the brain ;). Gina A When you slip your first stitch, be sure NOT to let it drop! Then, when you slip your next stitch, it is going over the first stitch. essentially, you are simply having two stitches trade places. Hope that clarifies! :)

How How How How do you get your slip knot and working stitch together? I just can't figure it out! I don't use a long tailed cast on, it doesn't say whether to use that cast on or not. I'm so discouraged! I hold the needle in my left hand. I've done nothing but scarves (EXTREMELY SIMPLE K1 row and P1 row) and BORED! I've always been interested in DPK and I just don't understand what I've done wrong. Please please tell me what i'm doing wrong>
@CreatiKnit
@CreatiKnit 8 жыл бұрын
Tina, are you talking about joining the first and last stitch to connect? If you already know how to cast on, do that on one needle, then divide your stitches as evenly as possible among your needles. Then you will use your right needle to lift the left stitch up and off the left needle. Now put that stitch onto the right needle and hold it there. Next, use your left needle to lift the stitch (before that stitch you transferred), that is on your right needle, up and over that transferred stitch and onto your left needle. So essentially, you are swapping the first and last stitch over each other, so they connect and join you in the round. Hope this helps! :)

No she’s asking how your working yarn and tail are next to each other. I also was intrigued by this because I’ve never seen it this way before. I watched several casting on videos to see if any would cover this. I also tried asking how to do this in KZbin search and it appears that no one has a video on it. I think I’ve figured out that it is possible by doing long tail cast on and casting on two stitches at a time with both strings. But I zoomed in on your casted on needle and each stitch appears to have been done individually.

12 x 3 =36 so you put 12 stitches on each needle. Not 13. But it really doesn't matter, as long as you get the stitches on three different needles as equally as possible (makes it easier). Then you can put it in the round. If you have 35 stitches, it doesn't matter, just put them on the three needles.

I was doing pretty well following until all that purling stuff on the last bit of the video. At least I knew the math part of it though. But that's not going to help me to do the knitting part right. I just don't think I'll ever get the hang of it. I'm just so tired of knitting two-dimensionally and want to get into the three dimensional knitting of socks, mittens, and so on. The stuff I "knit" (if anyone could call it that lol *rolls eyes at self*) nobody would want to have:(.
