Far and away the best jump tutorial I've seen, the only thing I felt slightly lacking was replays of good technique: can't beat seeing it over a few times - some slo-mo, maybe different angles - for it to really seep into the mind. The more we can imagine the ideal position, timing etc the easier it is for our bodies to replicate that. Look forward to getting out and working on it, cheers 👍

Thanks to this video. Over the past 2 day's I've learnt to jump my EBike. Previously I was holding onto the bars like my life depended on it. Now I've relaxed and loosened my grip and learnt to push the bike rather than pull I'm clearing jumps. I'd normally nose dive off them instead of jumping. Brilliant video Ben and one of the best tutorials 👍👍👍.

Biggest issue I see is see the front wheel drop on take off. Either resulting in low jump height or being bucked over the bars. Something that helps is the focus of being heavy on the feet and light on the hands. That is, jump through the feet but use the hands to not let the front wheel drop. Getting new jumpers to land on their rear wheel on step ups is another technique to achieve this. I also like to focus on jumping through feet just before the rear wheel takes off the lip. Another good exercise is to manual on a road towards the foot path/pavement and, just before the gutter, jump from the manual up onto the foot path/pavement. Start the manual close to gutter and slowly increase the distance from the gutter that you start the manual. It teaches you to jump through the feet and not through the arms as much.

Jumping is like cornering in the most basic of sense - if you look into the rut of a corner you'll dig into the ruts - if you look out of the corner you'll keep better speed and have a better turn.. Same goes for jumping - don't go off the jump and look down - you'll just go straight over bars - Go off the jump and push is definitely the best way to figure out the basics - pushing into the jump will allow you to set the base for all jumping skills - you'll slowly get more and more comfy with the control aspect and then get into the pop or carve technique where you throw your bike around - you'll need to lay a base before this as the added weight shift when moving is something you'll need to train your muscle memory on Long and short of it - BIKING IS MUSCLE MEMORY - you need to practice and condition your muscles and reflexes to react without overthinking it. The more you do it the less overthinking and the more sending you'll be doin! Send on shredders! Keep it rolling Ben!

I’m not the guy to speak to about that but get a base setting and stick to it, the only thing you would play with then for your ‘jump settings’ is just stiffness more compression or air,

Some good points there but leaving loads of things out. Hip placement, arms bent, being perpendicular to the ground and the fact to let the bike pivot beneath you to name a few.
@BenDeakinMTB
@BenDeakinMTB 4 жыл бұрын
Naaaa way to complicated, you don’t talk about that when jumping on the ground without the bike, this is the next step to the basics, it would be to easy for someone to over think about that, the reason I don’t talk about arms bent is then it encourages pulling with the arms which I don’t want! 👍

Hey Ben Deakin! Your Mom did an excellent job of filming you! How could you make that disparaging remark about shaky footage? Poor woman tried so hard to raise her son properly and teach him to be respectful of others and then she gets this???? You should apologize and order her favorite lunch from her favorite restaurant a few times as a start to make it up to her! Then flowers and spa day after the quarantine allows such things!
