Just wanted to shout out to thank you. You showed me some things I did not know about my sienna which has almost 40,000 miles on it and I really appreciate that especially the battery and charging information was useful.

Just as a side note for anybody finding this video later because it pops up frequently on KZbin for this subject, do not use any of the bolts right next to the positive latch in the fuse box. The very closest Bolt that would commonly be used is actually the connection point for the ecu, and if you use it as a ground point to jump-start the vehicle, you will fry the ecu. I just had a body shop do exactly this. I now get to fight a body shop to replace my ecu.
@jcavidz4 ай бұрын
@@chubbysumo2230right. An experienced person would know not to attach to a bolt near the fuse block or the alternator. A bolt on the body or preferably a bolt on the engine block is a better choice for a ground connection.

Thanks for the video. I had never looked up how to jump start the Sienna before. We also have a 21 XSE in the same color. I knew about the bag hangers in the third row but I had never paid attention to the one on the back of the center console... good stuff.

Yes thank God I called the dealer up north for instructions. I looked in my manual for instructions. I called the dealer down in Florida for instructions on how to install a trickle battery charger. Couldn’t find anything been all over the Internet found a short one for two minutes, but the guy didn’t have a flashlight on, and you couldn’t see a damn thing, so my husband was looking at the battery in the back we couldn’t figure out how to get that cover off and most of the jumpstarts say that you should do it from the from the hood battery. Thank you for doing this video I’m going to be going away for four months and I need to know how to jump this car. Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. I would’ve posted a regular comment but I can’t find out how to do that

Okay, I found the camera box thank you thank you thank you thank you. I’ve called the dealer I’ve looked in the manual I’ve looked around on the Internet. I’m going to be going away for about four months and my husband wanted me to be able to install a trickle charger in case the battery was there on my 2021 sienna again, thank you so much for producing this video we could see everything it was well lit. The beginning was a little slow but that’s fine. Thank you again

My 2021 Sienna is just over 4 years old, and several days ago, it would not start. Lot of error messages on dash. Checked online and thought it might be a dying 12V battery. Connected a portable jump starter directly to the battery terminals and it started right up. Not sure why it would be necessary to connect to the relay box and engine block like you recommended. Amp draw should be minor since the engine often does not need to crank at startup.
@jcavidz5 ай бұрын
I'd prefer to jump directly to the battery as well. But sometimes it is not as accessible and popping the hood is easier.

Hi Jim! We left our car on accessory too long on our 2021 Sienna and the battery lost enough juice that the car would not start. It was unusual since all the warning lights still worked and the electric window. But just not enough to start the car. I had it jumped from the front engine terminal and thanks for your video! But I did have one question: Can you use that front terminal for hooking up a trickle battery charger? The tech that started our car thought that you had to hook a trickle charger direct to the battery and not use the engine terminals, but he seemed unsure. What's your opinion? And if you advise not using the engine terminal for trickle charging, why? Many thanks Jim!! Watching all your 2021 Sienna videos. One thing we have not been able to figure out is how to use the video screen hooked up to an IPhone and get the sound out of the rear speakers. How about a video on this?🙂

Your car has a lot of high tech computers in it that are susceptible to power surges. They just don't want to fry anything.

Hey Jim. Thanks for this video! Just got my Sienna 2 days ago and we just have left something on overnight bc it was dead this morning. Your video helped us find the grounding location. Question: Do I need to press the gas at all to keep the battery charging? How long should I let it run to charge it up?
@jcavidz Жыл бұрын
In my experience, it's best to drive it around for a while.

Hi Jim! Great video! Can we use a trickle charger for our Siennas? How long can we go without starting our car? I am planning to be away for 1 month.
@jcavidz9 ай бұрын
Hello, in my experience, it really all depends on how long you can go without starting. Every car battery is different. I would verify with your local mechanic, but in my opinion, keeping it hooked up to a quality battery tender shouldn't hurt if you're going to be away for a while. Just be sure to have a secure connection to the terminals and use the appropriate length cable, as the ground and positive terminals are pretty far apart.

Hey Jim, what if you want to charge a battery that’s not dead but at 50-60% or something. So you can access the battery directly. Should you use a trickle charger to give lower steady amps as opposed to a jump starter? I read that for a trickle charger you shouldn’t connect to the negative terminal so perhaps it’s best to charge from under the hood and plug to ground instead of plugging directly on the battery?
@jcavidz Жыл бұрын
Hi Mc, I have not yet been in a position where I needed a trickle charger for this van. Maybe check the forums on Sienna Chat to see if anyone has experience with it? I apologize, but I can't make a recommendation on how to proceed with what you're trying to do.
@josephlan3732 жыл бұрын
Those bag hangers are awesome if you have take-out that you don't want to spill over. Regarding jumping, I have one of those li-ion jumper packs, but its jump cables are really short between +ve and -ve. Is there a suitable ground point by the fuse box?
@jcavidz2 жыл бұрын
A good ground point is typically a good sized bolt mounted to the body or the engine block. Make sure it's not fastened to the alternator or the fuse panel. Try at your own risk.

Jim, excellent video about jump starting the 2021 Sienna. I would never have guessed! I'm really pissed at Toyota. I asked for a layout and circuit cross reference of the 3 fuse boxes in the Sienna 2021. Nobody could (or would) help me at the dealerships. When I called national they told me I could only get that if I paid the fee and subscribed to the TIS - Toyota Information System. Don't let the owner know how to find and replace a blown fuse??? I've searched for this info for hours only to be directed to fuse boxes for the 2003-2010. Anything you can do to help us out for the Sienna 2021?

I wish I had access to the paperback manuals like older cars before. Definitely harder to gain access so the DIY person can perform their own repairs. Sorry I can't currently help with this.

Why not directly jump start the battery at the back of the vehlcle? It is much easier, I have done once and it works straightforward.

While that works, it's not as easily accessible. But yes, it's a viable option!

My cigarette lighter is no longer working on my 2022 Toyota sienna. I think I blew the fuse after trying to use a power hungry vaccum. Do you know which fuse I would have to replace in the fuse box?
@jcavidz2 жыл бұрын
Look under the fuse panel cover. It is usually labeled.
@sal982 жыл бұрын
Just remember, your not actually starting your van by doing this. Your just charging up the small 12 volt battery that’s used for the smaller accessories and to signal the computer to allow the hybrid system to work. This hybrid does not have a starter motor, it instead uses the traction battery ( larger Nickel Metal Hydride battery found under the front seats) to spin one of the 2 electric motors and fire up the 4 cylinder engine as well as run the hybrid system.
@jcavidz2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the information. This is correct, but I want to point out that without the smaller battery, the van still doesn't start, regardless of the charge in the hybrid battery. I should also point out, this type of vehicle should not be used to jump start other vehicles.

So charging this should make the van start?
