The UK heatwave had me really worried this time. My Syrian really seemed uncomfortable this time. Another cheapesh save was a small dog cooling Mat from Amazon. I put it under his cage after freezing it for a night and it lasted several hrs.

We freeze the entire sandbath and put it back an hour before our hammy wakes up. During the UK heatwave, this was fab cause he could lay there and chill in the cool sand.

I think my ham got to hot! I live where it’s always hot. In Florida here. I just got him and he started acting so weird. Thank you for this most helpful! He’s been drinking a lot of water and sleeping and like you said all those signs. So glad to know that this is what it is. I have a fan blowing on it now. 😊 great video! I've found that plastic cages like the Zoozone heat up in the heat. I had a Syrian in a Gabber Rex cage years and years ago and she passes away from heatstroke as i was young and less knowledgeable at the time and didn't realise, then a few years ago i had a Robo in a Zoozone and he was struggling, so i moved him to our bathroom as it was cooler and went out and bought him a wire cage and he was fine in that.

Till now I never knew heat will kill them. My first little hammy died due to heat yesterday. He was just 3 months old😞. He ate well in morning. And try to sleep outside. Then later he went into the cardboard enclosure..I thought it's normal behaviour. All of a sudden, evening he was found flat outside with low breathing. On the way to hospital he s gone

Yes they are! I put ice in their water bowls and there's never been tummy trouble. Obviously monitor your hamster just in case, but they should be fine.

I've not heard of hamsters having issues with ice and personally haven't experienced any problems with it, so I believe it an issue that only affects some small animals like rabbits and I think guinea pigs too

What about the condensation from the cold tile and ceramic mugs, I know that they shouldn't get wet, so I'm worried that condensation may hurt my hams; I've only had hamsters in cold climate locations, where I had to worry about keeping it warm enough, this is the first time I've had hamsters in a location where it gets hot. Although it's not as hot here as it is where your located, it's still hot enough one of my hams is fed up with being toasty the kicker is it gets cool at night so turning the ac on isn't an option now; I've got the windows open and a fan going and Crystal's still being dramatic and loafing outside her hide. My bigger dwarf elderly balding ham, they're both rescues and they've seen vets unfortunately the hair loss is here to stay; she's not having much trouble with the heat, she's got a wooden hid and everything but I mean the bald spots are at least helping with her not being hot. But my younger smaller dwarf is sleeping in the open kind of she's going up behind her wheel where there's an open area that's somewhat covered by the wheel. She's got a hide that's got a bunch of doorways to allow airflow it's not plastic hide either. Sand isn't an option, since they were abused and neglected the first time the saw sand was when I introduced them to it, and I'm still trying to get them to understand it is not for eating; so I can't leave sand in their habitats they eat it and cause impaction.
