Great information, since both me and my brother think of some day getting a Rhino Iguana or a Rock Iguana, and with us living in Sweden, we have always wondered what the minimum need is when housing them Indoors. Now we have something to start with and go from there. Thanks Kenan! Btw, these POV camera shots were really fun to watch. I wouldn't mind seeing an entire feeding video, or tour of any kind, shot in this style. And I don't care if it is a hour long video, a full on video feeding tour would be really fantastic! :D

So glad I found your channel today. I've recently fallen in love with rhino iguanas after being able to interact with some this past weekend. However, I'm a long ways away from being able to even think about getting one. Plenty of time to get educated. .... and live vicariously through videos of your iguanas. Also, we do have summers up north. It's been in the 80's and sunny the past 2 weeks.

As someone who lives in the UK I face a similar issue, the main expense is UVB bulbs, I’m getting two more dragons soon bringing my main count up to five reptiles, that’s 4 vivarium to look after, luckily there’s no substrate cost as I use carpet but it’s still daunting luckily I only have to replace yearly as my lizards are kept in a conservatory, exposed to natural sunlight most of the year as well as their uv bulbs, there’s always ways to extend your UVB lights lifetime, windows, conservatories, gardens enclosures etc

Hey Kenan. Hope you and your family are well :-). My question is my dog keeps pooping in my Marginated Tortoise enclosure because he likes the greens🤔 and today I saw one of my torts eating the poop. Is the tort gonna get worms, what should I be concerned about, do I need their poop ? I’m going to make the fence higher for the enclosures. Thanks Kenan, I love what you do and what you’re all about.

Hey Kenan! I know your channel is more wildlife-conservation focused, but I think a really valuable video need you could feed into is in the pet world. It would be so beneficial for first-time reptile owners everywhere if you did a mini series on the most abused and improperly taken care of species such as ball pythons, bearded dragons, and leopard geckos. I am apart of a lot of reptile groups on different social media platforms and find that so many people are practicing improper husbandry and there are so many animals living in squalor because people are not educated or have been misinformed by workers at pet stores. You are one of the few animal channels on KZbin that give solid information that has been tried and true. You are also one of the few animal KZbinrs who just knows his stuff because you work with so many animals and animal experts. It would be AWESOME if a big channel like yours could help out. Just an idea :)

Hi Kenan, It is really nice to see ur stuff. After watching ur stuff I also planned to own some lizards & Iguanas. I m from Jaipur(india). Here the average annual maximum temperature is: 31.0° Celsius (87.8° Fahrenheit) & the average annual minimum temperature is: 18.5° Celsius (65.3° Fahrenheit), so please guide me that can I have open enclosures for lizards & Iguanas in my farmhouse or put some extra UVB or any other light during night or winter season??
@meifestonature5 жыл бұрын
No glass for lizards is a bit simplified. For iguana's and possible. For most big lizards, monitors and teju's for example a big wooden viv with glass sliding doors still work ;) And for most smaller lizards a wooden or glass enclosure is sometimes even a must. Escape proof, or humidity or .... Most importantly is to get the right enclosure for the right animal. ;) Good to mention the uvb Kenan, so often overwatched.

I would love to work with animals when I grow up, but I don't get any experience where I live other than with wild ones that I pick up and move to safer locations. I wish I could find an internship or something with a place like this. I don't have much experience, but I'd love to change that and I'm willing to get dirty (when I say willing, I actually enjoy it more than I don't). I'd work at an animal shelter or something, but I don't feel like I'm going to get the experience I want. Shelters mostly have very domestic animals, and I've already dealt with all kinds of dogs and cats (aggressive, nice, etc.) I'd love to get experience with big reptiles like gators, snakes, and other types. I've had a small amount of experience with snakes, but that mostly comes from when I find them in the road or in a dangerous spot. The only experience I have with gators is when I stepped on one in the middle of a river. Maybe one day I'll get to work with animals. Honestly Steve Irwin is my main influence. I hope to one day be like he was.

So reptiles can leave in cold weather? Even tho it's not ideal for them: and I agree a aquarium is a type of enclosure for reptiles(except turtles they don't care) lizards need some sort of aborial habiat(sorry don't critique my spelling) we know Slinky is too heavy for climbing and Guapo/Lola probably haven't done any of that in years.. so green iguana's need that extra space for roaming

The problem with thinking that you can find collard greens up north to feed the animals, there is just one problem. But for the odd person, no one eats collard greens as a regular item up north. As a result, no one but someone who has the particular taste for them, grows collard greens. In my more than 60 years, I have seen collard greens at a produce store once, maybe possibly two times. Weird cultural difference. Like hominy, it's just a souther thing that has not moved up north.

Tips: If you are thinking 'how do I do this as cheaply as possible' you probably should wait on a pet. And I don't mean you need to spend a half million dollars on a room sized climate controlled vivarium. Imagine having a kid and taking shortcuts in their care and how awful you would feel. As a college student I see so many sad animals in dorms because people love animals so they feel like they just have to have them. I just rescued 2 russian torts and the costs of upgrading them from a sad fish tank and the lights etc was insanely large. Not to mention the effect of all the plugins on my utility bill. It takes a lot of work and I'm glad they are in a better home but I still wish I could do better. Unless you are going to commit to something like it's your child it is not worth it. It is alive. Get some houseplants, or volunteer, or go on a hike and look for critters to enjoy and LEAVE THEM THERE. Owning and loving animals isn't always the same thing guys
