How to Keep Windows 7 Secure in 2023

Since so many people still use Windows 7 to this day, I figured this video may be helpful for them. I'm probably going to make a follow up video in a few months regarding various programs and their compatibility with Windows 7.

I will use Windows 7 until I literally can't anymore. 10 and 11 are gimped operating systems meant to restrict and obstruct the end user as much as possible with as little freedom of ownership as possible. I barely go online with it anyway but when I do, it's just to youtube and basic shit like that. I have plenty of anti-virus, Anti-Malware and real-time shields running and have never had a problem. You know what Windows 7 does really well? Run. It plays games perfectly (even the ones it supposedly can't) and isn't constantly trying to monitor my business and sell me shit right in the fucking start menu. 10 and 11 will be abject downgrades for me.

Great video buddy, it's short and concise you just earned a new subscriber. I wish I've watched this sooner before downloading anything from torrent sites, I got my laptop infected from trying to run virus programs from sketchy sites. Good thing I had 80% of my files backed up so it wasn't much of a lost but still I learned it the hard way. I can't upgrade my OS to a newer version cause my old laptop doesn't support it especially with the drivers. I can't buy a new one cause where I'm from money is scarce, and even old computers are still pricey.

Get Linux, for real... I multi-boot with Win7, i use Windows for compatibility with windows programs and because i think Visual Studio is a very good IDE. For internet stuffs, i use Linux. Multi-booting is easier than you think, you can do that in 10 minutes or less if you get the right distro.

When it comes to web browsers you still have a few supported options, those being Firefox, Thorium (a Chromium fork built for Win7), Mypal (68.x works best as it's FF Quantum based) and Waterfox (yet another Firefox fork). Some common APIs, such as Qt6, used by software no longer works on Win7, but using VxKex may improve compatibility. As for antiviruses, there are many that still work, such as ESET (fairly lightweight by today's standards) but generally, the best way to stay secure is to simply just not download and run any suspicious looking files, stay away from piracy and if in doubt, scan with virustotal and run it on a virtual machine. Also, apply this advice to modern versions of Windows too, just because an OS gets security updates doesn't mean you can't still get infected with malware!

wish I have read this sooner before downloading anything. I was literally scowering various torrent sites for a really old software from 2007 and I downloaded one but end up getting a virus from it. I had to do a clean reformat of my laptop, good thing I have 80% of the files backed up on my personal cloud so it's not that much of a lost. I'm currently typing this using Windows 7 SP1 Lite by Oprekin via Ungoogled Chrome. Thanks for recommending those browsers I'll give them a try later.

MyPal 68 is simply Firefox redesigned for Windows XP, with the older versions just being a backport of Pale Moon (which has Win7 as the lowest target deployment by default). What benefit does it have compared to the real thing on Windows 7?

There is simple a lot of references for Linux online, there are distro wikis and etc. However, some Distros are made for lay and some for people that know better about computer. I grew up with DOS, so using Linux by the terminal was very familiar to me, especially that some commands are the same on DOS. But i think that for hacking you would like a more "expert Linux" and would take a good time until you learn it, but it is worth. You would also need to know how to make it secure, as some people think Linux is just "born secure", but there are configurations and apps you might want to install... If you don't mind learning the harsh way, you may want to get ArchLinux. There is Kali Linux too, which is made for the purpose of opsec. I never installed Kali to know how easy or not to use it. However, once you get the grasp of the terminal, it becomes easier to do a lot of tasks from the terminal. And then, Linux is Linux, the kernel is what does the magic. It is a OS which gives you a lot of freedom, so if you know how to use it, you can do basically anything with it.

Correct, but Microsoft had an extended support program with continued security updates for businesses still in the process of switching from Windows 7 to Windows 10 or 11. That program recently ended back in January of this year.
