How to keep your Traxxas lights working with aftermarket motor/ESC

Motor leads are so turn signals don’t turn ON unless motor not turning. Receiver cable runs brake lights and reverse lights. You can buy male/female Traxxas connectors with JST😮 lead coming off to power something. So you don’t void motor warranty.

If anyone is worried about running direct battery, this is from the manual for the light kit, referring to the JST plug off of the kit’s power module: “to Traxxas XL-5 HV Electronic Speed Control (ESC) or direct battery power source up to 3s LiPo or 12.6V”

If you have a 3d printer or a friend with one. There's an STL file you can get for a switch mount for the fusion switch that screws into your factory TRX-4 ESC holes. Super clean install and the switch fits in like a glove. No tape or adhesive needed.

Just installed the pro scale lights and rock lights and was nervous I couldn’t use them if I upgraded the motor. Thanks for the video! I’ll be doing this eventually

hi m8 i did exactly the same with the fusion pro 2300kv and the lights work but i cant switch on hig and low beams, only the halo lights rear and brake and reverse and blinkers work. even have the maxx link cable and the app but even in the app it doesnt work, the app shows all functions but when i switch them they do nothing 🙂

Will this same method work on the traxxas UDR light kit for a non traxxas esc?

I have basically the same setup (hobbywing, maxx link cable, power directly tapped from the 3s LiPo), but after a minute or so all the functions of the lights stop working. Lights just stay on. No turn signals, no brake or reverse lights. If I turn off the ESC and turn on, everything works fine for a while and then stops again after a minute or so. Seems like there is some disturbance in the communication between receiver and the light module. It also stops responding in the app on my phone. Any ideas?

Yes and no, to get the lights to work you don’t need it, but with that module you’ll be able to access the lights via the app. I honestly never use the app ever.

All the light functions still work after doing this the way he showed,I just did it today...everything works as if your still running the stock esc.

You did a lot of extra work, you already had the Traxxas power tap and were swapping Traxxas connector on there, that’s all you had to do, you didn’t need to strip and wrap the wires around.

And, the part about using the max link cable for telemetry also don’t work, it’s supposed to but it don’t. It’s crabby it Don’t work how it should
