I have been to many yoga classes where teachers repeat “bring the elbows towards the outer ribs” when going into chattarunga dandasana which misalignes the wrists as you say. I cringe at this queue because when I started practicing many years ago I developed not only wrist injury but a shoulder injury with this que. It is so important to practice Asana with teachers that know what they are doing .... thank you to both of you for highlighting these asanas and correcting “western yoga” bad teaching practices. When you practice with the right teachers you will know it and so will your body & it will respond. This is excellent information

Hey Mel, Thank you so much for your feedback and comments. It's great to hear that you found this helpful :). It's so important to set-up these foundational postures correctly so we avoid these unnecessary injuries.

May be the teacher ment to keep the elbows in a shoulder distance so people will not open it to wide , but not leaning to it.. it is important how you tell your instructions as well

I injured my wrist and was concerned that I could not continue my daily Sun salutations. This helped video me immensely, allowing me to continue my practice with modifications. Thank you! I am a beginner, so your videos are extremely helpful explaining positions until I can find a teacher in person, which is a goal of mine

Hey! Just wanted to say how grateful I am for these videos. I started my yoga journey around 2-3 years ago whilst recovering from a serious wrist injury, as well as bringing baggage from a shoulder surgery I had a few years before that. I assumed that all of the little pains and positions that didn't feel great were just down to those injuries and I'd eventually move past them. It was actually quite hard to stay motivated at times after feeling like these things should've been 'fixed' by now after practicing for a decent amount of time? Well, after watching this video, as well as your up dog, down dog and chaturunga video, things just make so much more sense as to why I have been feeling the way that I have been. From the lines, to squeezing in the right areas, my journey thus far would've been a whole lot different if I came across these videos at the beginning, although the timing is always as it's meant to be, I know :). Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with the world. Very grateful to receive it here in England. Looking forward to learning more through you both 💫💚

Wrist pain usually says hello whenever i'm in side plank ...it's not constant but comes and goes. I am just finding your channel , I don't practice ashtanga currently, but I am enjoying the fundamentals..super informative! I would love to see some videos on the cervical spine...For example, I struggle a bit when it comes to camel, or any asana where you "drop your head back " I find it painful and struggle to create length or space in the upper neck.

Thank you, great channel and this video is very helpful and explained a lot. I can not put any wait on my wrists or arms for a while, orders from physio th. How do you modify an ashtanga practise, when you can not use your hands/arms at all ?

I really struggle with body awareness - I will think I’m in alignment with perfect right angles only to have someone point out that I’m not actually stacked at all. Do other people have this issue? Filming myself to double check my alignment seems to be the best way for me to see what I actually am doing. Re: wrists - I only recently realized I’ve been “cheating” by resting my ribs on my arms in chaturanga! Early on, I received lots of cues to *squeeze* my bent arms into my lower ribs and now I need to unlearn that 😊.

Good tutorial but I found that for my wrists it is essential to warm them up before practice. Even if they‘ve hurt before, with warming up the initial pain disappears. A tutorial about how to bind correctly would be nice.

After practicing Yoga more frequently I have some issues with my wrist (due to overstretching, because my back isn't that open yet). Your tips reall help, I can feel the difference. Still I have a question. Some yoga teacher instruct for the upward facing dog to externally rotate the arms (yet push the knuckle of the index finger to the floor, which is for my body contradictory). You said in this video to (slightly) internally rotate the arms. For my body this seems to work much better. But is the goal to eventually externally rotate the arms? I guess for opening the chest this would help. Anyways, big thank to you. :)

Hello. Is there a video available with arm rotation during push up movements? I feel like I've been getting conflicting information about how to rotate the arms while doing push-up emotions, I feel like I've been stressing out my elbows trying to properly pull my shoulders back and rotate while pushing and pulling. I don't have hyperextended elbows but I feel like I'm doing something wrong. Thank you

Please do a video about ankle pain 😖 i’ve been practicing for 15 years. And I have never been able to overcome it. Especially with Vinyasa. Most of the warrior postures, overtime begin to wear on me no matter how much I activate my inner thighs, etc..
