If a zoa colony often has polyps closed up with lights on then it doesnt like high light so move it down lower or to a shaded spot. And if a colony doesnt have nicely extended tentacles then it probably wants more light and flow so move it up higher.

I grew zoas like mad for about 3 years, then slowly they all melted away, I had bottomed out nitrates and phosphates, that caused cyano. Now it's taken over a year to get back to a healthier (not perfect) tank I would try zoas again but the prices seemed to have rocketed.

Great video 1) How do you test for iodine? I've seen some reefers swear by them and from research, it seems to be a dose old school reefers used to do 2) You touched upon vermited snails..do you have them? How do you deal with them? I heard bumble bee snails help, but also instances where they don't eat them..seems like the vermited has no predators..an alpha snail!
@ReefDork3 жыл бұрын
I only go by icp tests for iodine. If old schoolers do something, it's often good! I do have vermetids - i've added bumblebees but I'm not expecting them to do much! Someone needs to discover a vermetids eating nudibranch!

The pipe fish won't be interested in the zoas but there might be tiny critters on the zoas he's interested in. Run it through a coral dip and see if anything drops off

@arsenioseslpodcast31432 жыл бұрын
Interesting, I literally had zoas at the beginning of my reef tank I had bought. They thrived and grew. However, they began dying and I didn' tknow why. I never tested my water before, either, so I got some expensive zoas food and they still didn't survive. I finally tested my water for the first time and realized that everytime the water dehydrated, I put RODI without salt into th etank. So after checking the water for the first time, it was at .011! NO WONDER THEY DIED!
@hynos323 Жыл бұрын
Sorry, but this makes no sense. You’re supposed to top of water without any salt. If you keep adding salt water your salinity will keep rising. When your saltwater evaporates the salt remains. It does not evaporate with the water. That is why you only top off with plain unsalted water.
