Sots Press - explanation and demonstration
The sots press is a valuable and challenging pressing variant that isolates the upper body and thereby removing the leg drive to make the press more challenging. It’s also a fantastic mobility, exercise for the hips, shoulders, and upper back.

I have found that using dbl kbs, pressing one at a time, works well too. It is almost easier, in that the racked kb serves as an effective counterbalance to the one that is pressed upward (note that pressing *both* kbs in Sots press requires exceptional mobility.) One other progressison is doing OHS with either a sgl kb, or one kb overhead, and one racked. Rasing the heels with slant board, e.g., helps too.

You have incredible mobility! Are you able to do a middle split? I imagine these moves would get you close without training for splits specifically.

Thank you very much. I can’t quite do a middle split although I don’t train it very often. I can still do a front split without warm-up at 54 years of age. I would need to really work at it to be able to achieve a complete sides split. My hamstrings are very flexible much more so than my hip socket.

@@IKFFChannel that's amazing on your front split! Any specific exercises you recommend for that? I hear split squats/lunges work well. I've had to take a break from middle split training due to hip pain... I'll benefit from coaching on my hip rotation so I'm not forcing bone on bone, and even just to confirm that it's possible for me with my bone structure.

Could one argue that the Z press isolates the upper body for presses as well?

Yes, the seated press also eliminates leg drive effectively.
