Yeah, the second phase is hell. That fucking spear is disgusting. As if by itself the spear wasn't enough he constantly switches it with a sword in mid combination in the most unexpected ways. He even sometimes breaks out of his usual combos himself and does something wild and completely unexpected. When everything else fails he even pulls out a glock at times. I mean come on, this old man is literally the omega or something. A boss which has it all and more.

For me its weirdly the first phase with specifically the inner version, I feel like he´s playing mind games with me, for example he sometimes baits me into thinking he will do some ashina cross stuff just to cancel the animation and hit me with some sprint attack. His whole pattern in that phase is way more unpredictable I feel than in the original

After you defeat him once he becomes so much easier when he jumps use the umbrella then the force skill should do a little if you have a lilacs umbrella or a sukakas umbrella

@@hemantkhora8698 I actually just best him today. Surprised it took me around 20 attempts, as I've heard it took someone a few hundred. His first phase was easily the hardest for me. Sometimes I'd no hit it, and sometimes he'd pull a combination I'd never seen before. Second phase wasn't bad. I died maybe 3 times on that one. I refused to die on third phase. Used everything I had and killed him on my first time reaching it. Idk why the first phase is so difficult for me. I hear it's a lot easier for others and most have trouble with his second phase, which honestly gave me very little trouble

Just a tip. You can counter his new attack by jumping over his head when you hear the kanji sound and then immediately blocking mid air. Then just either dodge or mikiri depending which attack he uses to finish it.

for others that didn't understand it at first, as I did: there's no need to get hit when reversing the lightning. if you jump and then immediately block in mid-air, you won't get any damage. then press R1 before touching the ground. I understood it because the message that "teaches" you lightning reversal mentions an L1 but it's not very clear about it, in fact I think the first few times I would just press L1, not also R1 after, so I always failed and got angry until I tried R1 instead. then one day I remembered it and got curious, watched some videos and found out you can indeed block the attack in mid-air.

Do not normal lightning reversal for charmless runs because you will take damage either way, instead you can use sakura dance or mist raven.

My only issue with this boss is that some of his strings can just come out of nowhere and completely stop any moment you had(His ‘counter’ sweep literally steals your turn).

This. To be totally safe, you can only go for 1 strike then deflect his attack. If you go for 2 strikes, then await his deflect, it will work most of the time but sometimes he will just throw you off and poise through your attack and follow it up with the perilous sweep.

4:06 A pro tip:I think that if u r doing the severance gaunglet(in which inner isshin is) u should have probably alr beaten divine heir gaunglet,if u havent just go and do it,it give u *Sakura Dance* a move which if timed correctly(which may sound hard but ia hella ez) can reverse lightning and does hella more dmg,hope this helped😀

Yeah, its the best because it moves you forward so you can get follow up attacks, mist raven keeps you in the same spot, and regular lightning reversal moves you backward. Added bonus also that Sakura dance does infact do slight damage with the first 2 hits before the lightning stun.

Isshin does this slash attack now in phase 1 that he didn’t do in this video. It’s the same attack when he seethes his sword except in rhe 2nd move there’s a kanji slash and it’s impossible to figure out when it’s coming. And it’s un - deflectable.

I just beat inner isshin on reflection of strength, still have to get through gauntlet of strength though. Doing as you do in this video, not moving much, deflecting and attacking deliberately, figuring out how to dodge or counter each move was good for learning how to win. Trying not to panic when blocking helps a lot, block spam works sometimes but then the posture bar breaks and you’re done, so I had a few moments I’d have to back off and block to get it back down again. Sakura dance for lightning is amazing, makes it really easy to catch the lightning and it makes phase 3 a lot easier. I got through phase 1 probably only losing two health vials. Learning to time and use the umbrella properly is really good, especially when Isshin sheaths his blade or before using the mortal blade

I struggled on the gauntlet as I couldn’t beat him. Before I watched this video I was attempting it again and made it to Isshin without too much difficulty, but I looked up a video to see how others countered that unblockable 3 hit combo. Once I saw you jumped BACKWARDS that triggered something in me and I went straight into the boss and beat him with difficulty but jumping backwards made a huge difference

I recommend using mortal blade in the second phase a lot (but don't do it always twice, only when safe) That cuts the phase shorter

I 100 percented Sekiro a month and a half ago on steam and thought I'd come back to it again to complete the gauntlets. Beat Inner Genichiro first try, and got to Inner Isshin first try where I died. I did beat him earlier today a couple times in fact (only took like 5 tries or smth to beat him first time) but the pressure seemed to get to me when I went back to do the gauntlet which is why I'm here I guess. Really hate how the hardest attack to deal with is in phase one, where he can just randomly interrupt your attacks with what looks like a ground stab, then proceed to chase you forcing you to jump to survive what is basically a oneshot. If it isn’t a oneshot, it at least deals an exact 75% of your health, with all prayer beads obtained. The first hit you can basically never efficiently react to? 25% of your health. That’s fair. Making the first phase the hardest one because of this absurd attack that basically says “start over” if you’re trying to no-hit the first phase. Yup. Totally not bullshit. *fuck this fight. That is literally my only complain with the fight, that one fucking move.*

Here is what I do 1 phase-Hit him three cause he deflects the last hit then I deflect his two attacks and attack again until he backs up or does his ashina cross but I run up to him before he does it block then jump off him rinse and repeat. Phase2-throw oil at him right before he takes out his spear,then use fire or flame vent put the fire on my weapon and go ham with genechrio’s art.also when I mikir counter I use the fire Phase 3-....Not sure what to do there so I came here for a strategy

I did it first try...now, you may ask: "How?" Or maybe you're saying "You're lying". Well, the secret is actually pretty simple: normal Isshin (Sword Saint Version) already destroyed me literally 50 times before I defeated him. On my second playthrough. I was pissed as fuck and definitely didn't want to do all other bosses in the gauntlet again before getting to face him. And by the combined power of hating 3/5 bosses in the gauntlet and generally being pissed (was a bad day today...) I defeated him first try....with no healing items left. No grass, rice, gourds or whatever. Or revives. It was fucking close, but it worked. I still am the luckiest person alive it seems😁
