Were there any tests comparing the efficacy of Crossbow (2-4D, triclopyr) to glyphosate prior to the recommendations? I had a tree that kept on putting up suckers for a year after I cut the main trunk, and coated the stump with glyphosate. I eventually drilled a lot of holes in the stump and injected undiluted Crossbow into the holes and had no more suckers after that.

I cut down a tree in my yard, in SW Colorad perhaps 3 years ago and did no, more. Of course the suckers came up like crazy. Now I'm trying to hand dig up the stump, there are very big roots. I'm thinking of getting someone with a backhoe to eventually and pull it out. Due to the fact that I cut the main tree very close to the ground would the glyphosate on the 3yr. old cut do any good. What about drilling holes in the cambium (?) and injecting or pouring glyphosate in the holes?

Hi, There are bunch of these bushes where I hunt. I am going to try this method. Does the tempature have an affect on the glyphosate? I was going to do this in February/March and live in Ohio. And do I use the recommended mixture amount on the bottle or do I just use the straight concentration? Thanks in advance.

Always follow the label. The label for the product we use allows for cut-stump with undiluted herbicide (41% glyphosate). Temperature has not had any detrimental effect on our application, as long as it flows it has been absorbed into the stump. Thanks for watching.

Dont use above 90 degrees farenheit or it becomes volatile and you can inhale it. Unless that's triplet selective herbacide I'm thinking of, but I think it might be true for both

I’m assuming you are asking about the chemical. Glyphosate is the common chemical name. brand names include Roundup, Killzall, Gly-4 and several others. Some, such as Rodeo, have an aquatic label so if you are applying around water you need to check that the herbicide is approved for “close to water” applications. Thanks for watching.

What do you do with what you cut down. I live in Southeastern Kentucky and I heard that they were planted on old coal strip jobs for cover. Well, that was a disaster. The Russian Olives are taking over this country. They have made it you our land. Do you burn them where you cut them. I heard that they’re so resilient that they’ll grow on the ground you drag them on or drop seeds as you carry them away. What can I do with all the cuttings, it will be a huge amount the way they grow all spread out. Thank you!

Not a legume; it can fix nitrogen, though

could you just brush the round up on and not use the syringe?
@usuextension
@usuextension 7 жыл бұрын
You could use a cheap sponge-type brush to apply the herbicide. The challenge is that you don’t know how much is actually getting applied. If you use a brush just be sure to “paint” it on fairly thick on the outer growth rings. Thanks for watching.

my father has a 100 acres where he lives in southern Illinois and the russian olives are winning. i was hoping for a faster method due to the amount that have sprouted up at his place. its said the coal companies brought them in back in the day for land reclamation and they took off as fast as kudza vines have. if only someone could create a market for these trees , then people would be asking to rmove them. lol.

If the ground is going to be cultivated on a regular basis for several years you can mechanically remove them. The seeds remain viable for up to 7 years. If it is a pasture situation then this is the best way we have so far. We are currently running a trial that uses basal bark prior to mechanical removal. We won't have data on it until the end of summer, 2018, but it looks promising. Stay tuned.

They're invasive, but provide nutrients to the soil, which can help create and revive ecosystems in places with scarce water.
@oscarflip8561
@oscarflip8561 Жыл бұрын
The plants they’re outcompeting are used to, and thrive in conditions where water is scarce and soil nutrients are low, so frequently the large amount of nitrogen they add to the soil does more harm than good to the nearby native vegetation. More importantly they host little to no leaf eating insects, so when they overtake areas of native vegetation, not only do the native plants suffer, but many insects populations suffer, and than bird populations greatly decline in that area from having no insects to feed to their chicks, and than animals like birds of prey decline due to having less of prey animals they eat. I’m sure they’re great in their native range, but Russian olives cause great damage to native ecosystems and biodiversity in the U.S.

Yeah, it's a free food source and great food source for polinators. This invasive specie cult is a pseudoscience. Esp with all those Monsanto herbicides released. Shame on everyone in the video.

You can make jam with the seeds so they don't spread but killing them with chemicals is just going to hurt the environment.
@NineTails1133
@NineTails1133 3 жыл бұрын
Where I work the area has been infested and a large portion of the native vegetation has been outcompeted. Soil samples were taken and the Russian olives destroyed the iron and nitrogen levels. They are definitely an invasive species. Sure, they have some benefits to humans. But they also wreak havoc on ecosystems.
