Put more money into your front system is also a way to make u feel u get a louder system. A big sub woofer system wont sound that good if u cant get the mid and hi to make upp for it .. Sure u will feel allot off bass and the car will rattle but your still feels like the system does not play as loud as it should. Always got the recommendation to get an amplifier and an decent front system before putting the hole budget on a big expensive sub woofer. A good front system that installed correct can make wounder for your system, even if u get an cheaper woofer to make the budget

Some of the newer cars have great factory sound nowadays. My wife’s car has a nice Bose factory sound, my last Jeep Wrangler had upgraded Alpine system, and my Nissan Titan had an upgraded Rockford Fosgate system. With these I just added a 10” DVC2 sub and enclosure with a D4S JP8, RF R1-750x1, or Kicker 800x1 amp and they ALL sounded phenomenal for a 1K watt system!#🔊❤️

One thing that should be added is to make sure your sub and the box are matched fairly well. Spending maybe an hour to familiarize yourself with something like WinISD and your sub"s Thiele / Small parameters will help you match things up much more than just following a generic " 12", 2 cu.ft., tuned to 35 Hz" headline. Checking this out before buying can save you a lot of grief. I know you have tutorials up, and Nick has his tutorials as well. This is the constant argument I'm having currently with myself. I had that little 500w for 10 days on two subs at 1.5ohm. IT CAUGHT FIRE! Running 4ga power and ground. Gain at 75%. Thinking of getting the JP8 to run just one of the 12s as I bought a new box few weeks ago because the two 12 box was dead. All seams were broken and I didn't really have room for the two 12 box. Seriously considering replacing the one 12 for a 10 in the same 1 cu ft porter box.

@mmadd7Ай бұрын
@CrazyWillification it sounds like that amp was way too small for those subs. If you have to turn the gain up past about halfway, you need a bigger/better amp. Example- my subwoofer is rated at 2800w max 1400w rms. I run it on a 2,000w amp at 1ohm. When you consider the fact that your impedence changes with every note played, along with the fact that I'll only ever see that 2,000w on the most perfect day, playing the perfect note, with perfect electrical, the set up is damn near perfect. My gain is less than a quarter of the way up (25%), and at the highest playable volume (about 75%-80% of the stereo's max volume) I get no clipping. Long story short, if you match your sub better with the amp, you'll be much happier with the result.

Agreed. You can take a cheap driver, and pit it in an excellent built, and properly tuned enclosure, and get killer results. Where as, you can take a high end driver, and put it in an inefficient, poorly designed enclosure, with horrible results. The key, is in the enclosure. For those that do not have table saws, and or experience in enclosure building...get someone to help with a design and a cut sheet. Your local Lowes and Home Depot, will cut your wood at no charge. I used to think that cheap drivers were similar to expensive drivers like light bulbs, but over the years I can tell that there is a huge difference between cheap and high end drivers. High end subwoofers sound at least 100000 times better than cheap ones, there are tones that a cheap subwoofer will never be able to reproduce, sorry, but search for better quality subwoofers even is they are pre owned.

Id like to know what would be a good tune for 80s 90s country. I made a box a week ago sounded awesome with bass music , put some 80s and country on and it lost about half its bass! I was pissed. Spent all day making it.
@DIYAudioGuy5 ай бұрын
For starters, there's less bass in '80s and '90s country music relative to rap music. No. 808 kick drum, no synthesized bass. The primary fundamental frequency of a kick drum is going to be 60 to 80 HZ. It's going to be about the same for a bass guitar. But don't tune your subwoofer enclosure to that. Most bass guitar cabinets are tuned to around 40 HZ if that gives you any context. The issue is most likely your crossover. Those frequencies are very near the crossover point between your mid-ranges and your subwoofer. Try swapping the polarity on the subwoofer and see if that helps.
@TimpBizkit Жыл бұрын
I high pass my subwoofers a few Hz below the tuning frequency. That way the cone doesn't start flapping around if there is too low a bass note and it also sounds better.

I’ve got a quick question here. When you wired the 2 ohm dual coil subwoofer in parallel (on the voice coils) wouldn’t that make a one ohm load to the amp? Now, wouldn’t a mono amplifier split that ohm load in half, so to me, wouldn’t that have made the load on the amp actually 0.5 ohms? Wouldn’t this be somewhat a thermal management and/or a component value failure problem with the amplifier? I might have my math out of wack there. I was just wondering. A cheap amp might not be able to take this for very long IMHO. Thanks!
@DIYAudioGuy Жыл бұрын
Nope, it is still a 1 ohm load. BUT! If you bridged a stereo amp and hooked that to a 1 ohm load it would give you a 0.5 ohm final load.

After watching this video and seeing you actually get less watts when connected to subs, I’m not sure if I should scrap that plan and just get two d4 subs. I can hear 40Hz and below without port chaffing, but the stock bass drivers bottom out max excursions easily and it kinda spoils it. Tannoy had built those subwoofer cabinets excellently as it's a well-known brand in the higher tier of home and professional audio. So from my observations the only thing that limits the subs at the moment is the stock drivers. They're 100 Watt Class AB amplifiers but can easily overpower the drivers. Hi! I got 2 older Pioneers TS-W307D2 (800W RMS at 2Ohm). Got it wired down to 2 Ohm and running them on DD DM1000a amp (770W RMS at 2Ohm/ 1000W RMS on 1 Ohm). I like 2Ohm load more because it will draw less current from the batter/alternator, less heat and I also heard quality of sound is better then on 1Ohm. Now maybe I made a mistake with the box or not. I'm trying to save some space in the trunk so I went with sealed box version and sub chambers are not separated. I measured the outside dimension of the box and got 97Liters, lets say from the inside volume is then 87L (I dont know how thick the walls are). What do you think of the box, amp and the subs? I'm thinking in the future I'll change the subs to 2 DD 512d but I'm not sure how much advantage will I have if I buy 2 of them and wire them down to 1 Ohm and have them overpowered by 200W rms or keep the 2 Ohm load and have them underpowed by 30W rms?

Pretty inarguable unless you're talking about sound reinforcement and instrument amplification. Try putting a HP filter at about 38hz on it, and it will play louder than anything you have. The main issue is the box compliance and the mechanical suspension cannot control the cone movement and it becomes erratically unstable, robbing any other potential sound. The big payback for all this processing is the available box gain increases tremendously (3-6 dB), and in the frequencies you have adjusted your box tuning to. The big down side is if the processing fails, everything else probably will too. Try it once, you might be impressed.

@@DIYAudioGuy i do have a question for you if you dont mind, although I see you are into subs a lot. This is about 6x9s. Remember they always come in pairs. So the rms rating they give, is it for both together or for a single one? For instance on the box it says 60w rms. Does this mean that each speaker can handle 60w by itself, or that each can handle 30w, but together it is 60w? I know it is a silly question, but I ran Kenwood KFCPS6986 (140 watt rms) on my amp which can only do 125w rms per channel. Also I agree 5/8” boards are an absolute minimum for an enclosure, especially for the woofer mounting panel. However if properly braced, 5/8” boards can yield proper results. If its ok , I would like to share a track to all the bassheads omongst you, the track is on youtube, Achiel - Enderman (Rob Mitshi) , Its a mean techno track and if you wanna give your speakers a run for some fast paced kickin, this one should do some damage. I love the channel and build my own enclosures. Running my studio with adam Audio A7x's as top units, a 10 inch sub (tremblor 10), and a 12 inch sub ( good old MAGNAT BULLDOG 3000 in a homemade case to add some warmth :). Currently Building a set of 15 inchers to close the deal :). I hope you check me out, if you google me your destined to find some good bass. feel free to put in the comments how U experienced the sound, and what system you used to listen. Thanks for the cool info Audio Guy, you helped me out a lot !!

Just because you go down from 2ohms to 1 ohms dose not give more spl or is any better.if a amp can't deliver at 2ohms but delivers at 1 ohm it's not better its not rated correctly. Point is buy a good name brand like alpine Rockford foshgate ect.i know many guys that do this. The thd is my concern.no name amps are never legit high out put ratings are false never true. Just but names you can trust

You're not wrong. But I don't get too hung up on brand names.

What’s crazy is I’m pretty sure this is the ported box I tried my sub in, and the amount of bass it put out was a lot less than my non ported box, which made me decide to go with non ported boxes
@DIYAudioGuy2 жыл бұрын
This kind of box is what it gives ported enclosures a bad reputation.

@@DIYAudioGuy well now that I know that, I may go get a regular ported box with a small round hole and see how it does after that lol. Thanks for the video man this kind of helps out a lot

A shop near my area was selling box that looked to be meant for a 10 inch but with the cutout meant to fit a 12 inch sub. They let me try it cuz the cutout was sooo close to the side walls it looked like the basket would almost touch the walls when installed. And they were selling it for like $100. I looked up the box online, and it did seem like a box for a 10 inch. Online the sub cutout looked to have 2 inches between it and the sidewalls. That box only had a few cm between them. My first box was a used sealed box that had 1 1/5 inch front baffle i paid $25 for it. Super solid box (still have it running to this day.) the box the shop had was probably the same size, but it was a ported box, so it definitely wasnt an upgrade for me. After that i decided to make my first box for a Rockford punch 3. Then i made one for 2 12 in soundqubed hdc3. That set up was too big for my car trunk, and after i got a crossover suv, i turned one hdc3 into an hdx 15, and made another custom box with a round port. The other sub i sold along with the box i built. I just lost trust in car audio shops after seeing all the bad equipment they sold

Yep, there's nothing wrong with something that's good for the money. But you need to spend a certain amount before you actually get something that's worth it

I knew a guy that had 3 Rockford fosgate 10”s in a tiny sealed box… It was like to small to be a truck box btw…😂 It sounded like total a$$…😂 I was thinking damn you really paid these people to hook that junk up for you! Lmao It was pathetic, I’ve heard a single 8 hit harder than that…😭

Right, it is a system and the parts need to match up and pair well together.

@@DIYAudioGuy I just mean that you can't really get a too big amplifier. I rather run too big amplifier at 8 ohms than "right" amplifier in 2 ohms, getting the same power. Not a small budget system for sure though.

What I realized is imo, older boss amps like the chaos series deliver exactly what they advertise and in some cases even a little bit more

Well if you buy junk you get junk. Buy a great brand like sundown or down for sound. Don't waste your time or money on anything boss or cheaper junk. These amps have always been garbage. 2300 watt amp from jp is under 400 dollars. It's very cheap.

I agree. Those JP amps are a killer deal. Now that the JP 23 is available in Blue I am going to order one. Also look at NVX amps. bit.ly/3CHGouy
