This was so informative, and I've saved it as a reference for future projects. Had to laugh though. I was knitting a scrubbie (stocking stuffer) while I watched, and I realized that I had switched to purl stitches without knowing. Now I want to try a scrubbie in stockinette stitch just for fun. I have resorted to slipping the last stitch of each row and knitting the first stitch of the next row through the back loop with the yarn held in front. It has given me significantly better edging over the last couple of years, and it's easy to remember. But it was sure nice to find out WHY I was having so much trouble with the edges. Have always envied people whose knitting was even all over with perfect edges.

Thanks, this is a very nice tutorial. I knit a variation of the Double stockinette stitch edge at 20:59 knit all slip last wyif, turn, knit, slip wyif, purl all, slip wyif, slip - turn. This gives a slimmer edge with stockinette framing the edge.

Thank you again for coming to my rescue, where others have failed. After watching about a dozen videos on knitting straight and tidy edges, and trying out more than half of them, my edges were still wavy and twisty, plus I was getting more confused and frustrated 😖 After watching this video three times, I finally got a straight and pretty edge on the first try. Here is how I keep neat edges: In the last 3 or 4 stitches of the current row I begin to tighten up on tension. Then while maintaining the tighter tension, I turn the work and work the first 3 or 4 stitches of new row using the tighter tension. That's it. The knitting will relax itself and even itself out. 🤓

This is a wonderful video, not only for the edging information, but you also reveal which edging is best for picking up stitches. I've never found this tip in any other knitting tutorial even though I've searched in vain and had much difficulty sometimes with neat pick ups. 👍

This tutorial is wonderful. Very clear instructions. I like the way you initially showed basic techniques that can help avoid either loose or tight edges. But then you take it to the next level by demonstrating 10 different edges! I did not know that there were so many to choose from! I also enjoyed watching you knit. I like your technique..your fingers were relaxed but in control of the yarn and stitches. Lovely, absolutely lovely. I will suscribe to Nimble Needles! You have given me an idea..I can easily practice my edges doing small squares like you did with inexpensive yarn before jumping into my project. I plan to knit a shrug with a beautiful merino wool that I recently found. :0)

I always do that. Before any big project I knit a little swatch to double check cast-ons, edge stitches and the like - especially if it's a special yarn!

awesome. Do keep in mind that cables restrict the stretchiness of a fabric, so definitely factor that in. Ravelry can be ag reat place to find sweater pattern wit cables.

My favorite bind-off is putting the yarn in front before the last two (or even three) stitches, then slip those stitches. Then knit the next row as usual.
