Fabulous instructions. Clear and concise! Very easy to understand. I loved that you included YIB instructions. Some don't and it's crucial whether yarn is in front or back. I'm in need of a refresher and this was much needed. Thank you. (I wish I had your gift for being go ok just subscribed. Cant believe I just found you!

If a pattern doesn't include this edge, I should cast on an additional 2 stitches to use this technique, correct?
@PalmeriKnits
@PalmeriKnits 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can add 2 stitches (1 for each edge) to achieve this edge. What are you making?

It would be helpful to see you work the selvedge on the actual Bobbiny trivet, since it's in garter stitch. I'd like to see what the end of each row looks like from the side before you turn the work to begin the next row. That way if the end stitch falls off the needle I can know what it should look like when I place it back on. And do I need to use a slip knot to begin a long tail cast on? I knit in an American style (vs. Continental). Thank you very much.

So you always purl the first and last stitch of every row regardless of the type of stitch you are doing in that row?
@PalmeriKnits
@PalmeriKnits 8 ай бұрын
Row 1, you will slip the beginning and the end of the row. Then row 2, you are purling the beginning and the end of the row. Repeat 1 and 2 as you knit the pattern. It is a Selvedge stitch, so you can decided either add 2 stitches (1 stitch each end) to the pattern to make this edge, or change the beginning and end of stitches to this style instead of following the direction of the pattern.

@@PalmeriKnits Thanks. I'll try this method. I like that it's easy to remember. I tried this other method before: - Row 1, knit the beginning and slip the end knitwise - Row 2, purl the beginning and slip the end purlwise I didn't like the result with this other methos because the edges were pointing to one of the sides so the other side looked like it had no edge. Maybe the problem was that I changed stitches after the beginning selvedge stitch, but I didn't think it mattered if the selvedge stitch matched the pattern or not.

@@Sylphadora There are many salvage stitches. Some are used to make the edge neater, and/or some are used to make the edge easier to pick up stitches. It's all about exploring and what you like the best. I am also exploring more and learning from other designer's patterns/tutorials. I feel like knitting is an endless learning and that is why it is so fun 😊 I hope this stitch helped you achieve the look you wanted.

@@PalmeriKnits Yeah, I saw there are many methods to do selvage stitches, some even with two extra stitches on each side. I'm still learning what works well for me 😃 I'm making more amigurumis at the moment but I'll keep exploring selvage stitches in my next knitting project.

does it add/remove a stitch from the stitch count? if I need 10 stotches across does it still stay at 10 or do I need to start with 12?
@PalmeriKnits
@PalmeriKnits 4 ай бұрын
The short answer is no. If you would like to replace the first and last with this stitch, the count will remain the same. If you would like to add the edging, then you can add two stitches. Depending on what you would like to achieve with the current design.

@@PalmeriKnits if I were to use the method you showed would I knit the first stitch only or the first and last in the current row?
