just ran across this video and pattern. I don’ t know why knitting a shawl seemed terrifying to me. However. I bit the bullet and without washing the video I was able to get started and I’m on a roll. this is a very good shawl to challenge even a beginner to understand “short rows” and “yarn overs.” My only down side it the running edge for the colors is a challenge to keep tidy, but as I go along it’s improving. The video, which I watched after I got a good start while reading the free pattern just impressed upon me the “yes, I can and did do this right’"

It seemed like such a long repeat to remember, then when I began the project it only took a couple refrains and voila! piece of cake! Thank you so much for sharing the pattern. I'm in the process of one for my daughter and then will make another for my daughter in law. I only wish I could find cake yarn here in Athens, Greece. So far, I'm not able to find anywhere so am just using yarn which changes colors fairly fast. Thanks again Marly Bird! Hey, you're also a great instructor! Cheers!

I just learned about this shawl and can’t wait to make it. I’m a fairly new knitter and I am having a VERY difficult time getting gauge. I am up to a US 7 needle when the pattern calls for a US 3. Even the yarn shows gauge at 26 sts using a size 5 needle. How can you possibly get gauge at 20 sts using a size US 3?

Hi marly, I love your crochet and knitting tutorial , mostly I crochet but I know the basic on knitting. Love this shawl and it doesn’t seem difficult and least the way you are teaching it doesn’t. Is there a way to crochet one with the it’s a wrap yarn since there aren’t much projects of crochet with it’s a wrap yarn. I own about three beautiful colors of that yarn . If not this shawl maybe another project. ❤️🌹❤️😘

Hello my name is Brian and for a short row shawl I’m wondering when you rotate your work to have knit back in the opposite direction does that mean you are on the next row when working back in the opposite direction or does that mean you’re still on the current row you are currently on and also if you send me some links to videos on how to make a short row shawl or how to do the techniques featured in a short row shawl I would really appreciate it and I’m new to the world of short rows and short row shawl so that’s why if there’s a video on how to make a short row shawl or how to do techniques featured and available in short row shawls I would really appreciate it Thanks 🙏

Does this use pretty much the entire cakes of yarn? Or most? I'm using a different, size 3-light, yarn and a bigger needle. I'm worried that I might need to go get more yarn.

I love this shawl and want to make it. I have in my stash finger weight yarn with a long color change, but I'm not sure the colour change is long enough. How long is your colour change so that I can check and see if it would be an appropriate yarn to use. I've been trying to use this yarn in other projects instead of just making socks. I would appreciate your help. Thanks

You showed us how to change colors in the beginning but I would like to know how you pick up the original color if you don’t break it off initially. I don’t know how you don’t create a long strand on the side of your work. Thanks for the help. I think I want to use the yarn you used as an example on your video instead of the yarn that is called for.

Do you take the yarn from the middle or from the outside when using both skeins of yarn? It looks like from the picture that the short rows and regular rows start with the same color.

Just ordered my yarn to make this, but am wondering how it would look in solid colors, as well. I did have one question, though--what is the difference between ItsAWrap and ItsAWrap Rainbow?
@MarlyBird6 жыл бұрын
the yarn in It's a Wrap transitions abruptly from one color to the next and only has three colors in one ball; however it has more yardage. It's a Wrap Rainbow has a more subtle transition and more colors per ball.
@tracygoode30376 жыл бұрын
@@MarlyBird that's good to know! Thanks for your reply. Can't wait for my yarn to arrive so I can make this beautiful shawl.
@tracygoode30376 жыл бұрын
Okay, this may sound like a dumb question, but I just got my It'sAWrap rainbow yarns for the shifting stripes shawl and I have a question about it. The yarn seems to be four strands together in each ball. Do I use all four at the same time? Or just one strand? (I really feel dumb asking this, but I've never worked with yarn this fine before, other than crochet thread, and that is an obvious thing. These four strands are not twisted together, but parallel to each other.) Edit
@MarlyBird6 жыл бұрын
Not dumb at all :) yes, use all four strands. The yarn is very lightly spun :) make sure as you knit you get all 4 strands so you don’t accidentally split a stitch.
