Hi Norman! Loving all of your tutorials, the help has been fantastic. My only request in this video would have been more information on where to put your needle in order to pick up stitches after knitting the heel turn. I’m struggling to see exactly where I’m the stitch you’re picking up. 34:27 Aside from that, really really loving your content! Thank you!

This is a SPECTACULAR video! Even my 5 year old twin boys, 7 year old son, and 8 year old son couldn't look away when my 10 year old daughter put this on to learn to knit socks. They all watched the whole video! I'm a crocheter and beginner knitter who tried double pointed needles once 15 years ago and gave up when they fought me. Thank you for the encouragement to try again! I wish we had been taught knitting in schools! We didn't get Home Economics 😭 THANK YOU for teaching us!!! 💗🧶

That'd be interesting, to have knitting being taught in schools. I would prefer crochet but imagine what things would be like if we taught kids how to make things themselves.

Hey there. I had the privilege of having been able to take Home Ec classes in high school. There isn’t a day go by that I don’t use what I learned there in my kitchen and at my sewing machine. Many years of mending boy jeans knees.😅during the year we had mini-courses on knitting and crochet. I use them daily! Taking Home Ec (and shops) out of the schools was ludicrous. Thanks for letting me share my thoughts.

I'm also a crocheter who's learning to knit. I do ok with DPNs but they're just awkward & the magic loop is a nightmare for me lol, but I've found a diff way that you may find easier - I find it no harder than kitting straight - it's called a travelling loop. It's been a life changer for me when knitting in the round 😀 ETA, to join the knitting in the round you need to start by splitting them in half like with a magic loop. Knit a few sts n then change to travelling loop 🙂

Just finished my first pair of socks, thank you :) Maybe it will be helpful for someone: if you never worked slip stitch patterns (as I haven't before this), it is probably a good idea to try the heel flap pattern separately until you get a good tension. With the first sock, the heel flap got way too tight meaning more stitches to decrease, and a poorer fit overall. The second sock turned out a lot better because when working the flap, I paid extra attention to knitting looser than I usually would.

Norman and Earthtones Girl are my 2 go to channels also~! I've only been knitting for 3 years,and I taught myself how from watching yt videos lol. I'm left handed but decided to learn right handed so that I wouldn't have to convert patterns(most are written only for right handed knitting). After knitting lots of swatches/dishcloths for practice,the first thing I made was a pair of yoga socks~without a pattern🤣 I literally dove right in as a newbie and made up my own sock pattern......to be fair tho,yoga socks leave out the 2 intimidating parts of a sock,the heel and the toe😂 3 years later and socks have become my favorite thing to knit~!! I bet you're so glad you tried them too. Now you have 45 years worth of socks to catch up on lol.....😄 wishing you good luck,I know you'll have fun~!!🥢🧶

Hi Norman, Fantastic work, thank you. i'm 68 and began knitting two weeks ago. What a journey. I'm knitting my second sock ever. After ending my first sock, my worst nightmare, the gosset, first, handle the ssk and k2tg, so i practice a lot and now i know what i'm doing. Second, remember if it's the row to knit to decrease or to knit around, so my solution to this problem, interchange color stitch marker every time i reach them, if the stitch marquer is red, knit around, if it is green, decrease and so on. It works very well for me even if it's time consuming.

I just finished my first pair of socks!! They fit perfectly and I have no ladders/gaps. I had to reset on the first sock because I was not keeping good tension between the needles at first, but I learned from that mistake quickly and now I have two lovely socks. SO PROUD OF MYSELF!! Thankyouu for the tutorial, so perfect!

I’m a complete beginner to knitting, so I’m not really ready to tackle socks, but I still watched the whole video because you have such a sweet and calming voice. I learned lots, but I’ll definitely be watching some other your other videos and coming back to this one later when I’m a little more of a confident knitter.

I have to say that after watching your tutorial on double pointed needles I am willing to try them. I have only used the magic loop for socks in the past and very intimidated by the double pointed needle technique SO here goes!!!!😊
@NimbleNeedles
@NimbleNeedles 9 ай бұрын
have fun! and it will feel weird at first but trust me...the reason why so many people think magic loop is easier because it feels familiar and dpns don't. But if you perserve it's going to be just as easy. You just need to get past that initially higher learning curve.

Dear Norman, I thought to know everything about knitting socks but you beat me. I didn't know the trick to have seamless stripes. Thank you very much for the tip. About casting on, I do it differently. When you have the yarn over your thumb, pick-up up onze from above and onze from under, that gives a strechy cast on and doesn't get looser after wearing. Love the way you explain it all. Love from Amsterdam

Hey Wally - to tell you the truth, this is not exactly how I knit socks. This is just my ideal beginner pattern where I sort of try to find a balance between a nice fit and easy and re-knittable techniques. I typically knit a lot more complicated stuff *grin*

My favorite knitting is socks. I’m learning and your video came to me at the perfect time. My daughter is in the hospital several times a month. Sock knitting is small enough that I can put needles, yarn and and extra in my purse. With people sick and so much infection, knitting big projects is not allowed in our hospitals now. I have knit one sock. I am also trying to knit like you, continental. I have only knit but throwing. Also as a colorblind person, I need assistance in choosing colors of yarn for my sock I used self stripping yarn, a light color. I’m having difficulty with the slip stitch heal and gusset system. I used the flex flip needles because I was so clumsy and got so confused with the double point needles. I had a problem keeping stitches on the needles. I’m anxious to use your pattern with the tutorial. I love to watch you knit. I turn speed down to half so I can see each movement carefully. Thank you for your awesome tutorial. I’m so anxious to try short rows too! Jacque Dooley
