Great news! The instructions for knitting the sock are available in French, thanks to Christine Catt: drive.google.com/file/d/1Piab54B0jSAOiTQicFUrFJa2oklE1M2G/view Additionally, Christine has created an incredibly helpful cheat sheet for knitting the heel, which is also available for download: drive.google.com/file/d/1AGf8-6mgWTtIg0Afh4P5oBEUpmrLfBUO/view

Thank you so much for this very clear video. I have watched it 3 times and the last time, I have written down the text (while comparing it to the manual) in French. I am now ready to try for real. I like the way you have clearly separated each section and each step within the section which makes it easier to CHECK what has been done. While knitting, if you cannot check, then the smallest interuption can be really disruptive. It is in this view that I have written the text (which you are welcome to have if you wish for your files. I think I can improve it by doing something like a table especially for the heel part). It's in French but if I do it as a table for the heel, it could be useful to other folks. Once I manage the sock, I'll post it on your FB page of course. For now my 2 attempts have been like your first sock!!

Thank you so much for your kind words and thoughtful feedback! Taking notes can be a great way to absorb the material more effectively. I've already added links to PDF files with instructions, prepared by me, under each video, which you may find helpful, as well. As for the French variation you've created, that sounds like a wonderful addition. I believe it will be incredibly helpful to French-speaking viewers and even to others who may want to give it a try. Your willingness to share it is truly generous, and I'd be more than happy to add it to the Instructions folder. I can't wait to see your progress with your sock-knitting journey! Please do post your results on my Facebook page when you're ready - it's always inspiring to see the progress of the community members. Happy knitting!

@@ArtOfClay I'm at the moment where I start with the heel, I raised the 36 pushers. For Duo80 you tell us to set the carriages on BX/GX. I don't have B on the front lock of my E6000, the equivalent should be L. But when I move the carriage to the left, I can see that my most right pusher went back down on resting position, same when I push down the most left pusher and move the carriage to the right, this pusher went down. So that's a problem because then I can take the yarn as shown on your video and put it in the hook of the most right needle because the yarn got already on it. Don't know if I'm really clear but I'd like to know if you know how to make what you do but on the E6000 ? Many thanks !
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay Жыл бұрын
I don't know how exactly the E6000 works, but what you could do is to knit the heel on the back bed, and set the front lock to GX. This is the only solution I can think of at the moment.

Dobar den dear@@ArtOfClay . I understood my error thanks to a E6000 magician :). The pusher bed from the E6000 looks a bit different than the one from the Duo80. I thought that the pushers on the Duo80 from the video where in resting position but the Duo80 not having this narrower part where we can store the pusher in out-of-work position like on the E6000, it was indeed already in out-of-work position, hence the mistake (just writing this out for future references) :)

Dobar den Amaury, I see what you mean now! The Duo80's pushers also have 3 positions - in work, in rest, and under the rail. There is a knob on the left side that opens the rail to be able to put the pushers out of work (under the rail). Thank you for sharing your experience, as I receive many questions about the E6000, but I can't find one to buy in my country, so I can't answer all of them. Greetings from Bulgaria.

Help your sock cuffs or the welt aka ribbing by adding a strand of lycra as you knit the rib section. Also never knot off in the toe or foot area. Knots anywhere on your foot will create sores or blisters. Instead weave in your ends. Your seems are good. You are just pulling too tight and that keeps them from being invisible. You are very close. Awesome beginner. Keep up the GREAT VIDEOS. OTHERS REALLY NEED this help and your coincidence

Which method do you like better for short rowing? This where you insert the yarn into the latch, or your other video where you wrap the needles? Thank you
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the question. I personally prefer the wrapping method for short rowing as it creates a neater inside heel without small floats. I've also experimented with a third method involving transferring and twisting stitches, but it requires more effort. The wrapping method strikes the right balance for me in terms of efficiency and results.

hi there my friend, how's everything? Wondering if you ever would do a video on heel flap socks on the passap? I am particularly interested in the heel turn part. I get confused with what happens when you have to pick up stitches for the gusset. I am confused with how many rows to pick up, on the sides of the gusset. I was hoping you would be able to demonstrate the heel flap socks. Every video you make is so clearly demonstrated, I'm sure I can finally learn it from you.

I saw the other comment, thank you for telling me which magazine the pattern is from. Yes, we celebrate Christmas here. The Christmas stocking is a great idea for a video. I downloaded the magazine and found the pattern. My first impression is that it will be very difficult to do. This week I will print out the pattern, so I can look at it and try to rewrite it in a way I can understand. Then I will try to knit the sock and if make it, I will make the video. If I can't make the stocking from the magazine, I have an idea that I can try as well.

___ You may try to transfer the purl bumps from the end needles on the front bed to the hooks of the end needles on the back bed. hi my friend, how are you? I love how the rib comes out, it's perfect. Can you give me some advice? I have weight in the middle and black strippers on. Before the fifth short row, thereabout, the Locks run easily, after 5 rows in of short rows, the Locks get really hard to push and the stitches seem to get smaller and tighter. Do you have any idea what I could be doing wrong? :(
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay 3 жыл бұрын
Hello, Friend Tuber! I'm fine, thanks! I'm starting to dive into the Christmas atmosphere. I hope all is well with you, too! I read your comment in the morning, and I've been thinking all day. If the rib comes out perfectly, then there should be no problem with the stitch size or the tension of the yarn. The only thing that came to my mind was that you can try to rehang the weight higher on the heel frequently or try using a heavier weight. This will be the case if you use bulky yarn, and it accumulates at the needles in the center. ( But from what I read, I may not be right, and this may not be helpful to you.) When I was knitting the socks, the machine was always dropping several stitches (while I was making the heel section). When I was learning how to make them (before I made the video), I had many unsuccessful ones, and in order not to knit the whole sock over and over again, I was using waste yarn. You can make the cast-on, knit a few rows N/N (20-30 rows with all the needles), then attach a weight and set both locks to CX/CX for tubular knitting. Again knit 20-30 rows and start making the short rows. You can save some time until you find what's wrong. When I was shooting the video for the drawstring bag, I had prepared the machine and all the settings - just as they have to be. (I had tested everything beforehand). On the last row of cast-on, the stitches became small and I was unable to move the lock. I started over several times, and then I gave up. The next day, I realized that the yarn was tangled (invisibly) at the tension mast. This is obviously not the case with you, but probably it is something small and insignificant that makes the locks hard to move. If you have a different yarn, you can try making the sock using it to see the result.

@@ArtOfClay hi to my dear friend, I have discovered that I have been wrapping the needle incorrectly, the whole time. Instead of going around the back and under the hook, I was merely putting the yarn directly in the hook. I feel so stupid. But you know what? Learning at my age, 72, is enough of a conquest, so I will take it as a win, Hahaha, I also took your advice and put weight in the center, that helped too, to keep the stitches from pushing up in the center, as the heel is forming. I cannot believe that I was doing the short row wraps incorrectly, wow! Oh well! Now I know, so I am not going to forget that but remember how to do it, for next time!! Thanks for your good wishes! Oh, I would never have thought that it might be from wrapping yarn around the needles. I am glad to hear you found what was causing the problem! I told you about the bag because I'm going through the same thing. I've never been knitting, and I still don't know most of the terms, even in my native language. I do most things by trial and error. I only rotate the knobs and move the lock, sometimes I can't even imagine what the knitting will look like. LOL After every mistake, I want to give up, but without the mistakes, there will be no progress. See you around! ⛄

Hi there my friend, you mentioned that you use cotton for the socks, what weight do I look for, please? I am actually very dumb about weights and types of fabric. Can you show me with a link in Amazon, so that I don't get the wrong size cotton?
@ArtOfClay
@ArtOfClay 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't understand the sizes and the weights very well, either. Each store/country uses its own sizes and weights. For that video, I am using 300 tex cotton yarn (1700 meters = 500 grams). That's what was written on the label. I haven't tried to convert it because I can make a mistake. I think that is the maximum thickness the machine can knit with (or it is very close to that), but I didn't have any troubles while knitting the sock. The last bobbin I bought was 250 tex (1900 meters = 500 grams). For as long as I remember, I knitted the tuck stitch tie using it, and it was better than the 300 tex one. I have never bought anything from Amazon, so I can't give you a link. I am buying online from a local store.

Hi! Thank you for the comment! Although there are no holes on the inside, there are some loops that look like a seam. So, this is not the right way to make the heels. You have to twist the yarn around some of the needles, but I still can't do it the right way. Make a test piece to see, if you will like the result.
