Learn how to knit this super special stitch! Every knit stitch that you work throughout the piece is knit in the row below, pulling that stitch up, making it extra three dimensional. This makes it a lot like brioche knitting and it even feels a little like a brioche swatch but it's a lot easier to knit than basic brioche. This stitch would be great for a fisherman's style sweater because it is extra thick, warm, and plush.
Speaking of sweaters, how about making grandma's favorite sweater with this awesome pattern: bit.ly/1BOXCT3

Thank you for this video. It is much easier than brioche yet is fluffy and soft. Am going to try and substitute fisherman's rib for the brioche in Stephen West pattern.

you can also alternate purl 1, then purl 1 in the back of the loop but with your working yarn behind as if to knit 1. much easier.

I watched three different videos on this stitch and all of them did it differently. This was my favorite because it’s more like K1,P1 rib that I’m used to. I’m having a problem though, my stitches are all different sizes like I can’t get my tension correct.

Hi, Thanks for the video. May I know how do you cast off the last row of this fisherman's rib pattern? I noticed that your first row is a full purl. I only know how to knit to cast off. Would that turn out fine?

Thanks for the tutorial. I'm following it, but the sides doesn't look nice as in your example, they look very irregular. And I dont know if it makes sense, but it looks "bumpy". Should I use bigger sticks? (I'm using the ones recommended for this particular yarn).

The prettiest way is to follow the pattern. Knit the knits, purl the purls.

Thank you. The video was very clear. I just want to know, if doing a Fisherman's Rib stitch do you do an edge stitch? I tend to slip 1 stitch purlways and then knit the end stitch to have an edge stitch. Your video says to purl at the beginning and then 2 purl stitches at the end. Would my edge stitch affect the overall stitch pattern? from John's wife, Debbie. Sorry I don't know how to fix this posting name thingy. :)

I'm sorry, I don't see how it is you knit into the stitch below and don't lose the stitch above. I have lots of stitches hanging on the back just ready to pull out. I'm going to start over but I still don't see how that works..

Thank you for this video! I'm excited to try this in my next scarf! Would this be a good pattern to do as part of a sampler project so I can practice patterns like rib stitch, basketweave, and smooth sand stitch? Also, do you need to start with a purl row? I saw another video that started with a knit row and then instead of ending each row with two purls, they ended it with a knit stitch. Just wondering what difference that makes?

This is a totally beginner question: Why is the tail and the ball end on both sides for your cast on? When I do it, the tail is at one end and the ball end is at the other.

hi thanks for the video I have two questions I really hope you reply. 1) do i cast two on extras if I want to have a selvedge(chain) edge as I find that its really bumpy on the side. 2) how do I think a fisherman's rib to undo a mistake ? I'm really stuck ! kind regards.
@Allfreeknittingplus
@Allfreeknittingplus 8 жыл бұрын
+Mariam Olanrewaju HI! Thanks for your questions. If you'd like to have a selvage edge, cast one extra on at each end. Just be sure to remember to either knit them or slip the stitches. For the fisherman's rib - just work each stitch backwards, be sure to move your yarn from front to back between knit and purls and it'll TINK easily. GOOD LUCK!

Total noob question but does this use more yarn than regular knitting stitches?
@Allfreeknittingplus
@Allfreeknittingplus 6 жыл бұрын
Hi innocentpasserby! Yes, Fisherman's rib will use more yarn than stockinette stitch or garter stitch; however, your fabric WILL be much thicker, fluffier, and stretchier than regular stockinette.
