If you love the look of brioche knitting, but can't get the hang of it....watch this video!! You can get the look of brioche with the Fisherman's Rib stitch...no BRK required. This stitch is reversible, has great texture and drape, and the repeat is super simple. What more can you ask for?

Heh -- I laboriously invented this myself a few years ago after my first brioche project. I wanted something reversible and realized that if I could combine brioche and ribbing, it would work. It took my some trial and error to persuade myself that the brioche yarn-over trick is a different way of doing knit-below. Enormous kudos for mentioning how hard -- nearly impossible, in fact -- it is to tink fisherman's rib. Fortunately I don't make too many mistakes with a stitch this simple, but when a mistake happens, it is very VERY hard to undo. Thanks for a great piece!

Another great video Brittany! I love Fisherman’s Rib. My teacher taught us this lovely pattern at one of my first classes with her probably 10 years ago now. It looks so nice and is so relaxing to knit. Thanks Brittany!💕

I don't understand why people say it's not the same stitch. It's the same stitch done different ways-- the knit/purl one below drops the stitch above and pulls it into the same position as the YO in brioche. I've literally been swapping back and forth brk/brp and k/p one below on this piece and I can't see any difference aside from how the stitches are being knit.

Except that working two colors into brioche is super straightforward, i’m not sure how you would do a reversible project in two colors with the fisherman’s rib… or have a contrasting background. Plus brioche makes it super simple to work in a pocket because you can switch to double knit by altering your YO to a slip stitch.

@@ilovedavidbyrne You can do two color fisherman's rib. The process is different, but it's not difficult. Knittycat's Knits here on YT has tutorials.

I love this pattern and am so happy to have found you. I knit socks (two at a time) mostly but sometimes I just want to do something different and I think I may just get myself some yarn and make a lap blanket using this stitch. Thank you for sharing❣

Such a great video! Thankyou so much for these tutorials, they’re such a perfect level for mid-experienced knitters who want to challenge themselves but also don’t want to go insane trying to learn overly complex patterns. Thankyou for your effort, it really shows in your vids!! ❤️❤️ ❤️much love💕💕

Thank you so much!! I certainly take the “post less often, but make sure they’re great” video strategy, so a great deal of time is spent on each one (maybe too much time 😅). I’m so happy it shows, and I really appreciate what you said 🥰

It's a good idea to use life lines every few rows with this stitch, as it is not easy to reconstruct if you drop any stitches.

I learned to do this stitch without pearling and it looks the same. Any even number of stitches, knit first row (setup row), EVERY row now will be: *K1, K1B (knit one below) *. Knit last 2stitches Sooooooo easy 😍

Amazing video. You are so thorough. I'm wondering what are the brands of Needles you show / use in this video? The wooden set with the black caps look amazing and the metal ones are very blunt- which comes in handy for so many yarns I use- not to mention, the blue cord looks similar to the red cord on Chiaogoo ci oculars? So happy to have found this video, as I have a pattern that uses this stitch and was not very successful. It really helps to be able to see it in action 😀

What are all these comments about "what a great video"? Just blew thru row 3! 😭 Is it knit 2, knit 1 under and repeat? Or knit 2, knit one under, knit 1, knit one under, repeat??
@TheFereldenCat
@TheFereldenCat 7 ай бұрын
Putting this here for anyone in the future that ran into the same problem as me and this person (i figure you figured it out by now) the 3rd row is knit 2, then your repeat is knit 1 purl 1 and at the end of the row its knit 2. I had to look up another video which happened to be her making a scarf to figure it out 😅

You can achieve this look using all knit stitches. Every row is the same: *K 1, K 1 B * and that is it. Cast on an even number of stitches, work one row of all knit as set up then start the pattern. For people who don't like to purl it is ideal.

Nice simple video! I've always shyed away from that stitch but will now give it a try I have some nice patterns in bulky yarns for winter jumpers I've been putting off. Is that stitch suitable to do with VELVETEEN wool as well?
@bhookedknitting
@bhookedknitting Жыл бұрын
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, and found motivation in it! I've never tried this stitch with velveteen yarn personally....the lower stitch definition will hide the pattern a bit, but I'm sure it would work. Definitely worth making a little test swatch!

I really like your teaching style and videos. I have a question involving the half fisherman's rib pattern where you P1,K1on the odd-numbered rounds and then P1, K1b on the even-numbered rounds. I am knitting a hat with this pattern, so using a circular needle. Whenever I change colors in this pattern I like to work a set-up round just using knit stitches before starting the ribbing. Should I knit this set-up round in the first color or in the new color? Thank you.

Do you know the name of this variation?!?! For years I have knitted a stitch pattern similar to this, but I don’t know what it is called 😔 It doesn’t have any purls on the back… so both sides use Knit & Knit1Below.

I love fisherman's rib, but I can never get the k1b right. The stitch I pull off the needle always ends up staying as a loop rather than falling into a regular stitch 😱

I get stuck in row 3 every time. Dont know what to do with the loose loop after each below knit stitch. And always end up with only one stitch to do the last two purls.

Advice from a life long knitter: A Half Patent stitch is a Half "Brioche" stitch to be precise. Full Patent is Full "Brioche". The only difference is that a half patent is worked every second row while a full patent is worked in every row. Patent stitches have been around for a very long time. Naming something "Brioche" does not make it into a different or new stitch. My 140 year old pattern book has a "Fisherman's Rib" as well as a Full Patent Stitch. Patent Stitches have a wonderful history in Europe. Please do not mislead your viewers by saying this is not a " Brioche" stitch. And by the way Brioche is a French bun. Patent stitches are for knitting. Bread is for eating. Have fun knitting and always do your research and you might find that what seems new to you has been around for a very long time, minus the food related fancy new name.

If you knit all the "between stitches" in both rows, the next row will be much easier to stitch in the row below. It will also be much faster!
