Jason, Great Job - best video I have seen on prepping a new bat. My annoyance with new bats is the information provided by the manufacturer and how much of a variation is given... even with my new Puma bat - there are two labels and each says something different in regards to oiling and whether you need to oil where a face guard is fitted. Always think the traditional ways are best!

More grains means slower slower growing surely. Took 13 growth seasons across a blade as opposed to say 5 which would surely be younger tree

yeah, the dude is a saleman for sure. Does all this bat knocking actually help with something or is it a gimmick?
@alexcottam96875 жыл бұрын
mar504 helps stop it breaking and cracking, but all bats nowadays are pressed and it’s only really the edges that need any sort of attention.it won’t make you Chris Gayle overnight like everyone seems to think.
@fransreks87433 жыл бұрын
Well, common sense tells you the thinner the grains the younger and weaker the tree. The fatter the grains the older the tree. That's why more grains will break easier.

Precisely! And it's FEWER grains, not less!

@arvindsomakumar3599 жыл бұрын
Hi ... Is oiling needed to soften the willow surface or to seal the moisture in? I see u started by saying its to seal the moisture. If that's true shouldn't you oil the entire bat(exposed area)? Oil really doesn't soften the wood, does it? It hardly penetrates into the wood.

A very detailed and informative video on preparing a bat for play. However mr. Jason, i would like to ask you how frequently do i have to knock in and oil my bat?
@imaries81027 жыл бұрын
You only need to knock in once and once the first few layers (2-4) of the oil are set it only needs to be done before the start of the new season :)

Larger grains means a more rapid growth. The tree with smaller grains has grown less in the growing season.
@Stevejonseys69 Жыл бұрын
That’s literally what he said mate
@robertlane304 Жыл бұрын
@@Stevejonseys69 No its not, he said the opposite, he said more grains grew quicker
@mbzinfpt Жыл бұрын
That is exactly why kashmir willows have more and smaller grains because those trees are not cultivated on purpose. English willows come from plantation and that is why they have bigger evenly spaced grains and springy response.

Hi Jason! I'm 14 and I just got a gray nicolls a few days ago for £200 (About 250$) it's pretty good and it came with a scuff sheet put on so I can't oil it. It does say that it is pre-prepared and hen I hit it with a seam of the ball there was no mark and I hit it a few times. So do u think it's ready for a net session? It has around 7 grains. I have a cricket match for under 14 tmrw aswell and I was hoping I could use it. I usually come in 4th. I did kno it personally for about an hour
@Josh30127 жыл бұрын
I have used pre-knocked bats at a similar price with no extra knocking in, so you should be fine. I would trust Gray Nicolls to have knocked it in properly for you. You can apply a *very small* amount of oil with a soft cloth to the wood that isn't covered by the scuff sheet. You should do this once before every season. If you are worried you can always knock your bat in yourself before the net session! Extra knocking in doesn't hurt your bat.
@alecrobson41455 жыл бұрын
more grains on bat equals more ping of bat , however lessgrains like say nine equals stroke player bat, lastes longer but hs not the same punch of bat.
