How to know if a passive radon mitigation system will work

I had not even considered Radon in the 1967 built home we purchased 6 years ago. My mom got one of the electric Radon testers for her home and her levels were good. She let me take it home to test mine. We had on avg 13 in our LR. I tested the basement and we had 48 (not 4.8, but 48) I about lost my mind.

how is this passive system if it has a fan? I thought passive meant no fan?

A passive mitigation system does not have a fan. When we are hired to activate a passive mitigation system, the big question is, will it work? Since we didn't install any of the components of the passive system, we don't know if they were installed correctly. Doing a test like the one in this video gives us a bit more confidence going into the project. I'm interested to hear that a mitigation system is being installed on a house with a 3.2 level. We just installed a system at our house, which dropped the levels from 10.5 down to roughly 3.4. Would you recommend attempted to mitigate further? Bear in mind that we don't have drain tile, our house was built before that was part of the building code.

I would mitigate my family's homes if they were above 2.0. Some of our customers have mitigated levels that were even lower than that. One was 0.5 before mitigation. They know two people that have lung cancer, and radon is the suspected cause. You will want to find a contractor that can do diagnostics to determine how to get your levels even lower. I used to own an ice dam removal business. It was common to stand on the ice dam on the roof's edge or gutter while holding the steamer wand. Sometimes I had to throw the 20-pound chunks of ice off to prevent them from falling onto a deck below, all while kneeling on ice, holding a steamer wand, and two stories off the ground. I was more fearless back then. However, dumb is probably a better word. :) I plan to do a video on The Pitch Hopper one of these days. It's a great invention. You want the one that doesn’t smell like a sewer. 😂
