Awesome video, love the content - so the stitching is just an open tunnel back to suction point that you dug/connected through a series of holes? Any concerns of integrity of the foundation removing that much material?
@AmericanRadonMitigation20 сағат бұрын
Yes, that's correct. The concert floors in Minnesota are not structural like the footings, so removing that much soil is not a concern. The 3.5-inch concrete slab can easily bridge the tunnel.

Is this a better way of going vs. the system attaching to the sump pump? Does it damage the foundation at all?
@AmericanRadonMitigation10 күн бұрын
We typically don't draw through the sump cover. Instead, we locate the drain tile with a sewer camera, core through the concrete floor, and tap into the drain tile system’s perforated piping below the slab. It does not damage the foundation. The concrete floors here in Minnesota are nonstructural, but that might not be the case in other areas. For instance, some homes have post-tension cables that run through the slab. Hitting one of those cables can cause it to violently rip out of the slab, which could be deadly-or so I'm told anyway.

Great videos but I can't find any videos for venting a daylight/walkout basement (here or anywhere on KZbin). Going through the attic or even into the garage and through the roof would be a real pain and not DIY friendly. any suggestions?

I have had a handful of customers get or pass away from lung cancer. Their doctors suspected radon as the cause. However, I'm not sure how they came to that conclusion. Some people have told me that several of their pets have passed away over the years and that their vet somehow suspects radon.

By any chance, do you know the difference between the Airthing model 2350 and model 223? I think 2350 might just be newer version, but I can't find anything that tells me what's going on with these model numbers.

The Corentium (Airthings) Home model 2350 is black in color and is a Home Depot-exclusive version that can be found in-store only and cannot be purchased online. The 223 model is the gray model and works the same way. The only difference is the color and packaging.

Hello, I would like some advice. I made the underfloor heating on a layer of hard styrofoam, and then spread the pipes on grid plates for pg, with mushrooms. Do I need to put a reinforcing mesh since I definitely plan to add fiber fibers and sika additive to the mower? Second question. I would split the floor and into one part of the garage. Can I spread the mushrooms with the same system, and what thickness of concrete should I use? Thanks in advance

@triharding219124 күн бұрын

@AmericanRadonMitigation24 күн бұрын
Thanks. Water is too messy for indoor use, in my opinion. We usually use a rotary hammer when the floor is thick enough not to crumble to pieces like this one. I've had this core bit for years and have used it about 20 times. I'm good with replacing it more often if it means less mess and time spent cleaning it up.
@AmericanRadonMitigation24 күн бұрын
We use water and a real core drill when we core through a foundation from outside. I just don't carry the drill in the van because it takes up so much space.

Nice video. I feel like this test was not 100% For a complete test. the fire should be lit in a box, and the fire and smoke should have nowhere to go but through the gaps. Leave holes to feed the fire with oxygen, but the fire should have enough enclosed space to force itself through the gaps and generate heat buildup around the collar.

If that slab was more than one inch thick, it probably wouldn't be compromised in so many places allowing radon gas to get in.

Radon can diffuse through concrete. Homes with thicker slabs still create suction on the soil, drawing in the radon gas.

The radon mitigation standards require two or more gallons for SSD systems. The home in this video has drain tile. We were trying to get better PFE in the center and near the walkout side of the house, so we added the third suction point you see here.

Why should residential monitors not be used for mitigation decisions?
@AmericanRadonMitigation29 күн бұрын
In case you have a bad monitor. I once had someone mitigate based on his Safety Siren Pro 3 reading 26 pCi/l. His post-mitigation Air Chek result was less than 0.3 pCi/L. His Safety Siren was still reading 26 after mitigation. Either his monitor was bad, or he never reset it after mitigation.

Hi , thanks for your video , I have a question , I want to evacuate my radon on the roof of the house , my pipe exhaust will be near the edge of the roof 2 feet above the roof, but I have a window on that side that is 3 feet below the exhausts pipe is this a problem ? will the radon come back down and re-enter the house ? Radon gas is heavier then the air I presume ?

Doesn't anyone find it weird how thin the floor is? No waterproofing etc…
@AmericanRadonMitigationАй бұрын
It’s common for a house built in 1908 to have a thin floor like this here in Minnesota. Drain tile wasn't common until the 1980s, and a vapor barrier below the slab until the 2000s.
