Excellent teacher and excellent teaching as always. It's good that he left us so much teaching, covering almost everything. This is crucial because we have everything that we need even if his reincarnation is not found. As it may be hard for his students/organization to find him again, at least in this lifetime. Why? Tibetan Monastic Politics. If he's reincarnated in Tibet, the Tibetan monks may not be so forthcoming in revealing it and giving him up. Tulkus are like their 'national treasure.' Living national treasures. So they may even cover it up and say that they haven't found him. Best bet is to wait for him to grow up and find his way back to Malaysia or somewhere on his own. And that would take decades. But like I said, he's left behind enough. And that is all that's needed.

Many people in my culture believe if they are experiencing tremendous suffering in this life that they are paying for evil they committed in previous lifetimes

If suffering is the result of negative karma, then why would good people suffer and evil people enjoy themselves? If the good person who suffers now committed evil acts in their prior incarnation, then why are they now such good people? If evil people who enjoy this life did good deeds in their former life, why did they descend into evil in this life? If the fruits of our actions carry over into our future lives, then why not our characters too? And if our characters do not carry over, but karma does, in what sense then could anyone be enjoying or suffering from what 'they' did in a former life?

"If suffering is the result of (...) karma, then why would (...) people suffer (...)" Once You stop being _judgemental or normative_ even in Your questions, You can answer Yourself.

@@christophmahler Are you disputing the idea that Buddhism teaches a distinction between good and bad karma? That 'bad' thoughts and actions lead to pain and 'good' thoughts and actions lead to pleasure? If karma is amoral, then why call it karma? It would just be simple causation in that case. “All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts and made up of our thoughts. If a man speak or act with an evil thought, suffering follows him as the wheel follows the hoof of the beast that draws the wagon.... If a man speak or act with a good thought, happiness follows him like a shadow that never leaves him.” ~Dhammapada | Twin Verses

@@christophmahler You think that my critique was made in bad faith? I assure you that isn't the case. I'm being totally straight forward here. There's no hidden agenda.

@@bobdobbs8700 "You think that my critique was made in bad faith?" No. But Your criticism carries so much _moralization_ that You can't answer Yourself that 'karma' is _indeed_ 'nothing but a dialectic causality'. If You prefer the consequences of actions, driven by the 'three poisons' - e.g. in order to simply oberverve the effects upon Your own fate - that is up to You (apart from the natural backlash by others). Once You come to terms with that, Your interest in some kind of 'theodicy' will cease. It's possible that I misjudge You, given the limitations of communication in social media - but that is my impression of Your statements.

HI Venkatesh. I guess if there were no males and females, how can our minds possibly take rebirth in a body? Hmm... I'm not sure if this helps with your question, but I hope it does :) Thank you.
