I’m still a child myself technically but I would want to adopt in the future. What should I do as I get older to ensure their success. And if I would move how can I help them?

I was in the foster system when I was 15 and I aged out of the system. Though I never was adopted, I feel I have more knowledge of those taken away from their parents, and hope that experience will aid me if I choose to go through with current thoughts of adoption

Absolutely! I think former foster youths make amazing adoptive parents…you “get it” more than anyone else could. I’m glad to hear you are considering adopting in the future ☺️

Community is one of the most important things to have through life! I can’t imagine how much it must be needed when you are fostering or adopting.

Same here! It has become even more important to me since taking this journey!

Hi Katie 👋🏼 Great points to reflect upon. This is so important. I really appreciated the point on learning that we can’t do this by ourselves.

Do you have any videos on adopting waiting children from another state?
@adoptinformed2 жыл бұрын
Not specifically about that, but with most agencies you will be able to adopt from any state! (As long as that state is open to placements outside of their own area) We know people from Ohio who have adopted from Alabama, Washington, Texas, etc.

@@adoptinformed I wonder what the initial visitation would look like in an out of state adoption?
@richardstivers58352 жыл бұрын
Also when adopting from another state how would the visitation at the beginning work? Would my wife and I have to fly there every weekend or something like that?
@adoptinformed2 жыл бұрын
No I do not think it would work like that! From my friends who adopted out of state, I think they went and stayed for several days and hung out with the child throughout that time. By the end, the child went home with them. I’m sure it varies.
