I wish there was an animal heaven but there is not. They don't have a soul. We do. They have their life here thru God but it doesn't go beyond that. I'm getting very close to having to put my cat down. He's had feline AIDS for 10 years. He is a great cat, so affectionalte. He used to follow me everywhere I go, even to the shower. He would protect me when I got on the toilet. and as soon as I sat down anywhere he would went to get in my lap. now is so lackluster. he stays by himself and throws up every day. I'm alone, when he is gone I will really be alone.

God breaths life into ALL creatures. There are animals in Heaven and will be in the New Earth/Kingdom. What loving Father would deny a child of God their pet back? I do believe they have a soul. They have love and a personality. Thats a soul.

Thanks for sharing this. My cat will be 14 next week and is scheduled to be put down. When I adopted her at the shelter she literally jumped out of the cage into my arms. She has run the household ever since. For about a year her quality of life has been sliding. This really helped. Peace.

I just went thru the same thing a couple weeks ago with my 16 or 17 year old cat....she stopped eating like normal and would just lick the gravy off her canned food and she would just stare a things for hours at a time. She stopped grooming herself like she normally did, she always groomed herself for 15 min after every meal. If you know your cat, you will notice any small changes in habits. She finally died one night on her own thankfully, I was dreading putting her down. She didn't really suffer, she just withered away slowly at her own pace. We gave each other many years and seasons of pleasure together and she will be greatly missed. PS: She came to my back door one stormy night soaking wet shivering and meowing loudly, I couldn't turn her away....she chose me.

My condolences for your loss. YOUR baby departed in HER time. She wasn't HURRIED off. SOMETIMES I wonder if people simply feel uncomfortable with NOT being able to deal with changes in their pets as a result of them simply getting older and subconciously look for VALIDITY in ridding THEMSELVES of this daily uncomfortability. I've seen it too many times. YOU did well!

Thank you, Tom. A few hours ago, we had to put our cat of 14 years to sleep. We hung on as long as we could. Casey's quality of life was getting worse and worse. All he wanted to do was lay down to eat and drink and had no other desires. He was a heavy cat, and he would always lick and tend to his legs, after walking just a little bit. I knew he was in pain. Cats will never let you know just how much pain they are in. He would also display very little control over his bowels and bladder, which only made things that much more difficult. I'm 75, and I have been through this so many times in my life with my dogs and cats, and it never fails to hurt so much. Maggie, one of our younger females, was very close to Casey. As soon as we got back from the vets, you could tell that she was already missing him badly. That's the hardest part, watching her look all over the house for her companion. This will pass and the pain will lessen with time and reflection, as it always does. But for the moment, it's very painful. Thanks for sharing your experiences with this very difficult situation. Peace and much love and healing to you.

We had our dear cat put down today. Nearly 21 years old, she had a really good life as the Princess Kitty of our home and our lives. The elderly cat medical issues were stacking up and we saw her really going downhill, so it seemed compassionate to help her along to the "Beautiful green meadows". I hope to meet her there someday. The house has a strange quietness now, I can just feel it. I hope she is chasing butterflies and bees, not missing us. See you later, sweetpea kitty.

I just had an In Home Euthenasia for my 16.5 year old Black Kitty... I don't know if it was wise to take a lot of photos, and short videos of her before her death. I documented much of the "process" as well, and, had a "memorial service" for her this past Sunday ( 3 week "anniversary"), by watching the video... it is very heartbreaking, but, I think I'm glad I have it.... ( I even cried when I handed over her crate to my brother, who could use it for his friend's pets. He promised that if I wanted it back, I could have it back....) For everyone who is grieving, I am wishing you as much support as you can obtain, and need.

Sorry for your loss. Our 15 year old boy had cancer, and was getting worse by the day. On the morning of his scheduled last car ride, he passed away at home. His ashes are on the mantle piece next his sister. No more suffering. It's a very hard thing to do, and it's easy to be selfish and want them to stay with you, but in the end, you're treating a family member with love.

@@TomScryleus I went on an overnight business trip. I kissed her goodbye 8 times and took a photo. My mom came to see her last night. Today I came home to find her missing. She was under the stove, the place she hid when we first moved here over 3 years ago. She had died peacefully in our home. I buried her at my mom's glorious riverfront home with a little ceremony. Strangely, I feel so relieved. Her companion (who I got 10 years ago this month) seems okay but has never been alone before.

Your thought of this being the greatest act of love rings very true! Honetly, I wish it was me dying instead of my best friend and compaion Niles. He is only 9 years old but has congestive heart failure. The Vet tells me that he might have six months left but it is one day at a time. We are enjoying each moment of life together and cherrising the time we have left. Sometimes, with Niles, I think perhaps I am overly emotionaly invested with him. However, when I hear other peoples stories of thier love for thier best friends I know I am not alone. That is comforting. Thank you for taking the time to share your story.

This video came up on my feed. Its something Ive never thought of much, but I have lately about my Cat Puss... 11 years ago he walked across my back garden in bits.. He was frightened skinny and bleeding from his legs from licking his fur off from ticks... He wouldn't come near me, so I began to leave food out for him. He eventually began to trust me, and here we are 11 years later. Always there when I come home from work, he was a bit wild and fiercely territorial snd git into many fights and vet visits for bites. He turned into a fine Cat and a great friend. I have noticed lately he sleeps a lot more and not as lively. Brought him to the vet recently and said he could be becoming diabetic.. Im dreading the day Puss will have to go. But I know that day will come. I rescued Puss but he has rescued me too through very tough times. Thank you for the video its comforting in ways as to know what happens... God bless... From Ireland...

I have an appointment for this Friday with my vet. Our kitty, Ninja, who we adopted when she was a kitten from a local clinic, has been with us for 19 years and has been my shadow since day one. But Ninja is sick and weak; she has kidney disease, the onset of heart disease, arthritis and ataxia, and at times she has trouble breathing. Despite this, we've struggled to deal with letting her go. I can't thank you enough for posting this.

He is old and slow but continued eating and sitting in the sun until yesterday. I know it is time - I just hope he holds out until I can get to the vet as I don’t know what I would do with his body if he passes before. I’ve had numerous cats, and they have all died in my arms at the vet’s. It is so difficult…😥💔💔

I have had several cats and a dog. I can appreciate what you are saying. I had a dog also, about 1 year old. He was trained on a dog sled, along with the other 15 siberian huskies. I visited where he was born and the rest of his family. The owner said that he adopted me, so that was my dog. He was about 15 months old but had been trained for a dog sled. I traveled quite a bit for work, but he was always glad to see me. When the time came, I knew what I had to do. And I stayed with him until he stopped. I buried his ashes at the base of a white maple tree in my back yard where he always laid down, watching the house waiting for our walk. Work took me away for several days ocassionaly but he always was happy to see me. My daughter was jealous. (Not really though).

You bringing her to the vet was your way of protecting her. You were guarding her for suffering. And on some level, I'm sure she knew that. Yesterday I could not go to the vet with my cat, Spike. There are many things I can do, hell, I'm a student pilot and flying a plane doesn't scare me at all. But being with Spike when he died, I couldn't handle that. My last memory of him was picking him up and giving him a kiss on the head. As you say, Kajsa always sat on the couch with you. Well I always gave Spike kisses on the top of his head, and he'd lift his head up, smell my hair, then press his snout to my forehead. For 15 years he was my little boy, even in his worst moments, even as he declined, there was still a part of him left.

Thanks for this video. I hope that my experience and vet set up is like yours. My 15 year old cat is not doing well. Blind in one eye, abscess that won’t heal. Tumour that just came out of nowhere. Now theirs blood in his urine. This has all happened so fast 😭😭😭. I cannot stop crying. Sadly I can’t imagine a life without him. Everyone has always called him my spirit animal. Stating they have never seen a cat attached to a human like he is with me. His love for our family has no ends and he has shown it over and over again. He once saved my daughter from what could have been a very bad situation. He chased barking hair raised dog out of our yard that was heading straight towards my 4 year old. I didn’t even have time to react when he had already turned the dog around. chasing it right back up the driveway. He was a stray that showed up in my yard and never left my side. He fits into our family perfectly. Loves children and babies. We are inseparable. Still with all these ailments and problems he follows me from room to room. Still purs when I talk to him or touch him. Still sleeps with me every night. I’m the adult and the one that needs to do this. Though I feel like a child again while thinking about loosing him. The guilt I feel for being the one to do this to him. When like you all I have ever done was protect and shelter him. Ugh this is tough and christmas is just around the corner.

The hardest decision ever was to have my 16 year old Timmy put to sleep after taking care of his diabetes condition for over 9 years. He was a wonderful friend, the sweetest cat ever. Taking him to the vet felt like betrayal. Though his condition was terminal, he seemed to enjoy his last ride by car. Watching him fall asleep on the vet's table was unbearable. In my experience any cat that's been with you for a while (bonded to you), they always let you know when it's time. All of mine did. Sometimes subtly, sometimes with great force. They'll stop doing some or all of their little rituals with you.. thats usually the first indication that they're ready to go. The most important thing to keep in mind is to NOT prolong their death when you're not ready but they are. That's the hardest part, letting go and accepting their time has come. I'm truly sorry you went through this, I know from experience how hard it is to go through with it the longer you've had the cat. ❤️❤️❤️

He had a sister who unfortunately she had to be put down at the age of 14 because of cancer. My cat might be old but he is still full of energy he sleeps eats plays cuddles and is never cranky at all. He is on 6 medicines which we give to him by mixing it through a liquid snack.he loves it and there are pain killers in them so he doesnt really feel the pain. Every year when we bring him to a little pet hotel when we are going on a vacation the workers there say he looks amazing for his age. We all love him but know that the day he will cross the rainbow bridge is coming but we just enjoy his presence and his soft fur. Just a reminder that not every old pet has to be put down and to love your furry friends for as long as theyre with you

I’ve thought about this before and I’ve said to myself that it’s shouldn’t be my right to decide when they pass or how. It feels wrong to make that decision for another living thing but if they start to suffer then it seems like the right thing to do. I wouldn’t want their final days to be insufferable. She also has overactive thyroid. She’s very immobile. I mean she gets up to eat, she gets up to use the litter box, and she might move from my bed to the other bedroom and that’s it. I had my best buddy of 18 years put to sleep few days ago. He was my lap cat (his choice from day 1). It was extremely hard to 'let him go' but he was so weak and thin. I realised I was being selfish if I allowed him to die naturally, in pain. Years ago my youngest son, watched his cat have a heart attack and he said the last meow was horrendous! He has regretted ever since he didn't save her from that pain, if he took vet advice just a week previously to let her go. My 18 yrs with my best buddy was priceless and I owed him a dignified end. He died in my arms in 3 seconds of the injection. Sadly we had no quiet room but vets main room. I have never cried so deeply in my life!

You gave her the best life and the best death. She knew you loved her. With cats, they are so good at hiding pain that by the time we notice, they may have been suffering for a while. It never gets easier for us, but thank goodness you were there to help her pass.

I'm in the minority opinion and I know I am right , think like this , if you could ask your cat if he wants you to put him asleep what do you think his answer would be , most likely he would choose to live the remainder of his or her life even though it is what us humans would call a low quality of life , the reason I say this is that the cats mind works differently than a humans because the cat cherishes every additional second that he has on the face of this earth and fully accepts his fate of pain and discomfort . How can I say this because I know cats better than the vast majority of people as when I was born in 1961 my parents brough me home from the hospital and our cat Ebenezer was sleeping in my crib she died in 1975 , and I have had cats for most of my 63 years and I love them and am crazy about them , so please understand that there is an alternative view of the cat , yes cats have an opinion . These words are etched in fire call me what you want it's the whole truth . It's possible that in extreme situation that a cat would want to be put down if the pain was horrible chronick pain without any chance for improvement .

I’ve been debating whether it is time with my cat, Petunia. She is 18 years old, heading for 19. She has all but stopped eating. She hasn’t groomed herself in awhile, and I’ve had to start cutting mats out of her fur as she doesn’t like the sound of the clippers. She is losing weight. I’m just having a hard time deciding whether it’s time or whether this is just her getting older. She eats a few bites here and there. Is still using the litterbox, although sometimes her aim is off so I keep a towel under the litterbox to catch any accidents. She’s started stopping in the middle of the room hissing at nothing. There’s no furniture in her way and the dogs aren’t bothering her. She’s just hissing at nothing. I don’t trust my own judgment that this is the right thing. She’s a cat, she sleeps a lot as it is.

Thank you for this, on March 10th 2024 I had at home pet euthanasia for my cat of 14 years. That last day was the hardest thing ive ever been through, like you said ive always felt like I was his protector and now I had to make that tough call. Luckily my wonderful girlfriend was there to help in so many ways because I could not do it alone. I know it was his time but yet its so hard to get over all of it. Time is healing though.

The moment the drugs are given is the easiest part. It's all the other stuff like putting them in the carrier, then loading in the car and the drive can really set a cat off. Then into a more than likely loud Vet office with dogs barking and strangers everywhere and then to a room that has all kinds of foreign smells. So, no the process is NOT easy especially on the pet. Home Euth. has become outrageously expensive. I have done that for all my pets but cant financially this time. Actually it kinda pisses me off that these in home Euth. services are soooo expensive. $500 for my 5lb cat and $400 for cremation. Ridiculous! Those prices are for Lap of Love in home Euth. The Vet is $215, such a price disparity. Lap of Love should be ashamed for gouging folks like that.

I'm in the early stages of dealing with my cat Chica's health issues. She's extremely important to me, almost as much as my daughter. Over the past year or so, I've noticed that she's sleeping more, eating less, coughing, vomiting occasionally, and sometimes there's a little blood in her stool. I grew up on a farm where we believed in letting animals "tell us" when it's time to humanly kill them, but it's hard for me to accept that with Chica. I've had her since around 2005, and I just can't bring myself to " 🔫 put her down". What should I do, considering I don't have a lot of money to spend on veterinary care until it's absolutely necessary?

I'd say the right time is when they are no longer showing any signs of positive emotions. If they show affection, respond to being given affection, have an appetite, purr, meow and at least sometimes walk with their tail held high, they probably don't want to go yet regardless of what they're going through.

No I will not put my cat down unless it's really necessary and cannot walk. I lost my dog Angel months ago and the next month, my cat pretty girl. Both has diabetes but the dog cannot stand up and we made a decision to put Angel down. My cat pretty girl was diagnosed with diabetes years ago. We stopped all cat treats. We gave better kind of cat food and tuna at night. Pretty Girl was not good after her best friend Angel the dog died. Pretty Girl has fluid on her stomach and we went back to our vet. Pretty Girl has multiple problems! May have cancer, heart failure and diabetes. She was breathing fast on her last few days. We decided to just let her come back home with us and make her as comfortable as possible in her last days. She died 3 days after her last checkup. The cat is only 11-12 years old. Our dog maybe 12 years old also. We do not know exactly their age because all our pets are strays. We still have five cats and one dog. Unfortunately, our time is enough that we cannot rescue more stray cats or dogs anymore.

I'm at this point now. I just can't imagine doing it. I don't have the support of a partner or anything to accompany me, I feel that would help. I've had my baby almost 20 years. It hurts to see her suffer but it also hurts to let her go. I can handle life after her but I can't handle the idea of making the call, getting to the vet, sitting through that and then coming home. She has GI issues. Vet doesn't know what it is and has said "we are not at the point of end of life" but I just know it. It's a "past couple of weeks" thing. She's declined so much. I already miss her terribly. I'm devesated.

Our cat was under medication for about 2 years for various ailments, mainly thyroid problems and it was found she had liver problems and she was given medication for that to help her eat without being sick. It became obvious to us when she needed to be euthanised. At 19 years and 5 months, she started having difficulty walking. Within a few days she could not walk at all, could not drink, could not eat and could only move her head. I tried liquid feeding and watering her with a dropper but I realised she would slowly starve as she could not really take it. She also was not pooping or weeing. We could not bear to see her suffer any more. Luckily the vets were in the same road and when we made the decision they came round to our house (at our request). They put a cannula in her leg and then my husband held her in his arms and when they gave her the intravenous anaesthetic overdose, she was gone in seconds, without seeming to feel any pain or fear. We were sure we'd done the right thing and the vet assured us too. I wish people didn't have to suffer. I would happily be euthanised if I felt the need in a terminal illness but sadly it's not legal for humans. You do have qualms about making the decision for a pet though, knowing they can't explain their views or make a choice themselves and of course it's so sad to lose them finally.

Sir, she was 17 YEARS OLD, we ALL slow down and HURT a little when we get older. I'm very sorry but I disagree with what you did. You actually stated that you INTERRUPTED her from eating her food ( a clear and positive sign in itself ), to RUSH her to the vet to be put to sleep. Are you kidding me? I don't intend to be offensive but you turned me off in what you did AT THIS POINT in your observations regarding her health. Unless I see blood being spit up, in her feces, DEFINITE organ failure or there is UNQUESTIONABLE pain being observed she is staying with me until her last breath. I will continue speaking to her, holding/comforting and simply LOVING her. A healthy appetite and the ability to move about and go to the bathroom without difficulty or pain are DEFINITE positive signs in MY eyes.

I agree with what you wrote here, though I don't know the exact physical condition this mans cat was in at the time he chose to have her put down, if she was eating, she was still okay. I've had a few pets put down & I've never done it until they stopped eating, showed visible signs of pain & had completely lost interest in life. I disagree with people who euthanize pets simply because they got a bit older, slower & more smelly.

Its difficult to know if a cat is suffering or in pain. My 17 year old cat has gone blind, he stumbles about and sleeps most of the time. He rarely wants to go out to the garden, and although he cries for food, he often leaves the food as well. He often will pee in diverse places even though he has two litter boxes . Its the quality of life that is the concern as well as the possibility of being in pain/discomfort that he cant tell me about. I have put off the decision time and again, but it will have to be made eventually. I think you are being a bit unfair in your judgement of this mans difficult decision, most caring pet owners are doing the best for their animal that they can.

the people judging you in the comments for deciding to do this when she was still drinking and eating don’t really seem to understand that a pet does not need to have a terminal illness or condition to suffer. there’s absolutely nothing wrong with what you did. she was old and dying. people judge too quickly without actually understanding why people do the things they do. there is nothing wrong with deciding when to let go, even if it looks a little too early to some people. suffering doesn’t just come from a condition, it comes from age as well, and that’s something people need to understand rather than just judging you right off the bat. sometimes you need to learn when it’s time to let go

My cat is around 15-16 years old, had her since I can remember. We’re probably gonna get her put down tomorrow if she even makes it to tomorrow. It started with her ripping her fur out and not eating all her food like normal, then she started constantly drooling and not eating at all, now she: Is drooling most the time, doesn’t eat (if she does it’s barely anything. Maybe one bite if even), won’t drink water (similar to food, barely drinks anything at all), is slow, she’s skinny and smells. She hasn’t eaten a good amount of food in days. I also found a bit of blood near her, and I’m gonna miss her. I loved her edit: today she left us. we had her put down because she stopped eating, wasn't getting better and her tongue was decaying again. treatments didn't work. R.I.P sassy. 💔

Well, it may be easy for some, but for those who've never had kids raising a cat from kitten throughout it's lifetime it's as close as we'll get to having a child. Especially when cat's behavior is very much like a 5 year old kid. So I understand why people can't let them go, it just hurts as much as loosing actual family.😢

I don't agree with euthanizing a pet unless death is imminent due to cancer, irreversible injury or hemorrhage. Euthanasia is becoming a "way out" of taking care of animals (and people) in their last days. Our presence as their family is their comfort in this time, and love is all they know.
@TomScryleus
@TomScryleus 2 ай бұрын
yeah, I struggled with thoughts like that at some point. the problem is that it its not that black and white unfortunetely. When a pet is to old to walk or eat, and meowing for hours. when it pees itself accidently, when its to old and tired to clean itself. a pet doesn't need to have cancer or some injury just to suffer. and you reach a point, where you realize that you are letting it live, because you are selfish, because you don't want to let it go. When you realize this, it makes sense to put it to sleep. These things are not not always easy. I wish it was that easy.

Every since then it was me and the "meow meow" ever since.. shes been with me at the end of her life when i finally made it financially and dont ever have to worry again what to do for a home.. sadly she is getting so bad i feel its time to.let her finally go, but the super selfish aaron inside says no.. hardest position ive ever been in.. its june3 2024.. she goes to forever sleep june 6th.. the day before she sees my sons.. she was there when the life took a turn and the day life took em from me 10 years ago. Sadly she wont be there. 🥺🥹 but this video has helped me do the right thing for the one i so love.. even big tough men cry and love animals.. ill give an update when its happend.
