Hi, so i've been on a high protein keto + IF diet for a little over a month and my keto strips are as purple as ever. does this mean that im not fat adapted? I can actually go almost 2 days with very little calories, i still have energy and good brain function but i do get cravings. so im a little confused if im just getting used to it or if im fat adapted?

@@lordnixon7512 Funny you should ask that, my wife and I were just talking about loose skin this morning. First, it’s far better than the alternative of having the same skin stretched over a fat balloon. Second, it’s not as bad as I thought (especially since I’m 54), I seem to be the only one that notices or cares. Finally, there are 2 things I do that I believe helps slowly along the way: intermittent fasting and I consume quality, homemade bone broth everyday. Good luck to everyone!!

Thanks for the info! I've been keto/carnivore about a year and assumed I was fat adapted, however about 5 months into it I got a keto mojo and was rarely in "ketosis". Ketones around .3 to .6 and glucose around 90 after 14 hours of fasting. I was a bit discouraged but instead of quitting the lifestyle I just quit testing, lol. I'm a few pounds below goal weight so I wasn't worried about it. For me this lifestyle is about my addiction to carbs, so I will not eat breads or pasta (not even the "keto" replacements). Thomas, I couldn't figure out the mct oil problem. The first time I took mct oil, I used the recommended scoop. I'd been serious about keto for months at that point. I was LIT UP. I didn't understand. I was jittery, wired, needing to move. So the next day, I took 1/2 a scoop, never knowing that my reaction was good. I even asked people, recently, in different keto groups, but no one claimed to understand my reaction. Thank you. I've also been driving myself crazy trying to understand why my bg is way higher than before, but my A1c is still 6.5. Now I do. I eat almost 0 carbs, allowing a few from liver, bacon, and avocado. When I don't eat, my numbers are 140-160mg/dL but after I eat, I'm down to 110-130mg/dL. Thank you. I was wondering why my ketones were always 0.5-0.7 most of my day. Now I know. I'm DEFINITELY fat adapted. 😅🤣

I’ve been carnivore for 9 months, the last 3 months -dropping oxalates(with ALL the symptoms), my concern is: severe anxiety/depression suddenly appearing! I’ve never had a high anxiety depression ! My insides were jittery. I tried to exercise, got tired- thoughts got alarming ! Dr google, suggested that brain wasn’t fat adapted…..I checked vitals, I’d dropped a lb a day(so what ! -when I feel close to tears). My oxygen sat. Was 85%! I usually was 99% ! I was so miserable, wanted to drink vodka-anything to stop the blackness. Finally I decided to eat something….had no appetite- so I pretend I’m cooking for someone else - and usually partway thru cooking my appetite appears. So a roast beef sandwich with two slices of bread a dollop oh mayo, followed by apple slices. I’ve regained that weight, but my head is better ! So now what ? I’m 74, no gall bladder, cardiac stents twice, with arthritis/inflammation from my last motorcycle accident. I was very vegetarian since childhood . So avocados, white rice, and soaked rolled oats might be the least damaging items to add ?….. or …….I take only blood pressure meds- which I’m weaning down, stopped everything Rx, using various citrates (Mg, Ca, K) ……..40 years ago I was given psych meds- terrible experience-won’t use them! I’d appreciate your thoughts here, thanks ! 🙏

As for the last one (peripheral IR) if blood glucose goes up, and fats are in the blood as well, doesn't the excess sugar damage the LDL receptors and causes the liver to reject the LDL from returning to the liver, which in turn causes the LDL to become plaque in the arteries?

Thomas, I'm not sure I am fat adapted, been on keto for 6 weeks and added IF actually the 2nd week because it felt right. I started out at 186 at 5' 10" so I'm not like the others here who lost 100 lbs+. Some may even ask why I needed to go on it in the 1st place. I went on it because I'm 55 and addicted to carbs. Before keto I could scarf down several pancakes at breakfast without thought and maybe 30 minutes later start raiding the cupboards for trail mix or granola bars (thinking it's healthy eating right). And at 186, that is close to my all-time high of 193 I set when I was 32. I didn't want to keep subtly gaining a pound here and a pound there and find out one day I'm 200 lbs. So that's why I'm on keto and after 6 weeks, I'm down to 174 with a goal of 165. Do I crave carbs? No, but my mouth waters a bit when I see cake in the store. I will say this, I have to take it easy on the substitute sweeteners like monk fruit because they are too sweet for me. Instead of one packet in my coffee, I use half. I drink Le Croix and if I drink a diet coke, I have to look at the can for a moment because it's too sweet to be diet coke. So I don't drink too many of those - maybe 1 a day. Keep up the good work! I'm an engineer by trade so I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to science and the way you cover things is very intriguing. I'm trying to get my wife to think about keto but so far she has her defenses up. I was hoping I would be the proof. Maybe if I lose a few more pounds. It would make meal prep far easier if she were on it with me.

Thomas. My goals are to establish reaping benefits of Ketogenic diet. Only carbs are maybe a Banana once every few days or once per week for potassium I believe stops the pain in organs experienced without Banana. Each day Supergreens Powder/Pea protein/Hemp Protein. Also daily supplements for fasting. Coconut Milk powder in Coffee. Hovering around 12.5 13 stone weight wise. I'm on the fat track rather than carb track. Maybe a person's still adapting here;) Good Film Great seeing you. Top lesson. From Craig.

@@xdrowssap4456 I live in France, so Cheese isn't a hard to find. Don't have any Goat Cheese. Have it once a week for breakfast or something. It makes me feel amazing everytime. Goat Cheese cycling lmao! Edit: put it on toast with black pepper, Sriracha and a teeny tiny little bit of olive oil just for a fruity note at the end. There you go my recipe.

.. from what ive learns is that there are three types of ketones.. acetate, acetoacetate and beta-hydroxybuterate.. am told strips are only measuring the acetoacetate (dietary fat).. the acetoacetate transitions in to beta-hydroxybuterate ones fat adapates which may also be the reason why the strips do no detect it..

Thanks Thomas. I have been on Keto for 5 years, no cheating, feel great. The granola has 7 carbs, sounds high??? Sure would like to try this as a cereal with heavy whipping cream. Hope you and your family are doing well. SORRY to hear You Tube is being difficult, I sure like them a lot. Hope it all works out. T

Very interesting topics today....cutting edge and right on target for the right information at the right time. I was curious about the dynamics of fat adaptation and how to look at urine test strips from a useful perspective. I also like your take on when to use MCT oil....that fat adaptation needs to have occurred and that fat metabolizing enzymes need to be present. I am curious about the term metabolic fitness and how quickly one can shift between using either MCT oil for energy or carbohydrates in large amounts for energy. Where is the balance between physical activity, the depletion of glucose stores and reinitiating whatever biochemical pathway necessary to use whatever you have available for energy...glucose ketones etc. Great stuff, keep it up and thanks for the information.

Just eat real whole foods and focus on nutrient dense animal foods like liver and egg yolks and youll be alright. Wheter keto is ok or not during pregnancy is debatable, but eating like our great grandmothers is most likely not, so I would just stick to living overall a healthy life and not focus on losing weight or trying keto during pregnancy, just do it after the kid is born as there is an adaptation phase we go thru.

Ketone == ke.t.one == ek.t.one Ek keys are master keys T is the cross One is oneness or atonement According to the code it looks like fasting creates ketones which in turn explains the spiritual connection when fasting hence the mind is sharper. Fasting is a spiritual exercise because you are denying natural realm food and bringing the body under subjection. Conclusion: ketones are a key to spiritual oneness.

I've been doing keto for about 3 months now and I think I've plateaued a little bit. I do anywhere from 16-20hr fasts daily and usually eat once a day a high fat meal and snack on peanut butter or almonds or something. (my schedule is pretty hectic). I usually stick to foods that are less than 5g carbs a serving (usually try for 3x fat to carbs or more). I don't crave carbs at all and I drink a ton water and black coffee. keto has become easy for me at this point but my weight has basically stayed the same the last few weeks. Am I not eating enough and that's why the weight loss has slowed? Or is it just my body finally adapted to the ketosis and just part of the process?

When in plateau I tend to cut fat a bit and focus on hitting my protein and that helps. If you've got fat to burn for fuel you don't need as much fat to keep feeling good. Hope that helps.
