I fly in Wyoming. Winter time wind gusts can get insane. I have landed in 18 kn of wind gusting to 30. The trick there is to land with one notch of flaps or no flaps. Make the landing lower flatter and shallower. The lowest possible profile into the wind is best. Keep a little bit of power on to battle gusts that will slow the plane down too much.

Starting my aviation journey soon. Love your videos Jason. Best landing and take off videos I've ever seen on KZbin. Looking forward to the days I can land confidently and have as much fun as you. 🙂

Love your videos. UK student pilot here. Only 20 landings so far but getting better each time. Our aerodrome has one long and one short grass runway. It sits ahead of some hills near the coast. Being the UK, calm days are rare. Trees surround the thresholds from any direction. The short grass runway is quite a challenge in gusty conditions, especially if you're attempting to give yourself enough room for a touch and go. A couple of touch n go's became full stops or go-around's when gusts decided either lift and shove me at the last minute. Your analogy of "riding the waves" resonated with me. Just passed my UK Air Law this weekend in preparation for my first solo. Loving every second of it. Whilst some of the procedural stuff is different across the Atlantic, the techniques are universal. Just wanted to thank you for sharing your experience. Stay safe.

Another good video, like the vibe, I find slipping with little or no flaps & extra speed works well. Thanks Jason!

Another great video and explanation of how to handle some unfavorable conditions. And thank you for showing the turbulence you were experiencing. It seems these KZbin aviators, with all their fancy editing, never experience turbulence. It had me thinking I was the only pilot who ever experienced it in this modern technologically advanced world....haha

Hi Jason - fanfastic video! I love the calm and positive vibe whenever you talk. I would love to see you doing another video here in Sedona, AZ for the crosswind, gustry landing you were talking about. Please let me know if you are interested. I am a local CFI / check airman. Best - Roger.

Hey Jason, you should maybe drop some comments on how to handle airspeed in no wind vs gusty conditions, like Vref and how to calculate it. As we all know, we should NOT approach a runway with a normal no wind approach speed compared to gusty conditions. 👌

Three times I had some side load on the plane in stronger/gusty wind. Each time the left main wheel comes up some and I go to the left. Is this because I may not be "flying the airplane" to the hanger? I cant remember what my actions were but wondering if once I touched down I relaxed the rudder and wind corrections

No mention of why he only used 10 degrees of flaps as apposed to full. No mention of why you want to come in faster. Ive noticed a lot of his videos are for those with prior knowledge and just surface level materiel.

Nice video ! You add all gust speed (19kts) in your IAS or the difference between wind and gust ?
