You probably know this by now but the magnetic tool holders from Harbor Freight are an awesome tool, especially on a steel honeycomb bed. They're heavy AND magnets...doesn't get better than that. :-) Thanks for this video.

I have learned a ton about lightburn from this video alone. Great job sir! I tried to do a doormat using vcarve with the jtech laser on my shapeoko and it was burning into the mat. I have lightburn but haven't spent a lot of time learning it. Now I am convinced I need a pure laser, like OMtech.

Thanks for the video, Ben! I just tagged you on IG with my doormat. Also, i found that using offset fill instead of just fill as well as flood fill was the quickest.

Lightburn just added a new fill option called "Offset Fill" it's in the same drop down for the layer. I am curious if it lowers the cut time.

Hey Ben - Long time fan of your channel and projects. I finally tried this today but unfortunately the mat caught fire on my second letter and I had to abort it. It burned a few inches of the mat completely away as the hairs burned down to the rubber base. The first letter looked fine and the second one is the same size (under 3" tall) and not overlapping, so I'm not sure why that one caught fire except maybe heat build up or a dryer spot on the mat. I have the same laser (OmTech 60W about a month old) and bought the same mat from your Amazon link and used your library file for speed and settings (300mm/47.5%). I still have the stock built-in small air pump which I think is about 10 psi. It has worked fine on a couple small wood projects but maybe I need to hook up my air compressor with 20-30 psi before trying this? The stock vacuum fan is also pretty worthless and the cabinet quickly filled with smoke, so I know I should also replace that with an 6" AC inline fan outside the machine. Any ideas you have are greatly appreciated. Please keep up the great videos.
@snommas2 жыл бұрын
Did you figure out the burning issue? I have the same problem, same machine. Did higher PSI work better? Thanks
@automaticprojects2 жыл бұрын
@@snommas Yes. I got rid of the noisy little built-in air compressor and attached the one in my shop, and now I regulate the air pressure between 5-30 psi depending on what I'm etching, cutting, burning, etc. It makes a big difference to be able to adjust the air flow in real time, even with things that can't catch fire like etching glasses, I'll turn up the air to prevent the glass from overheating and cracking.

The reason that the mat looks so good, is that the person who designed the font did such a great job! I would like to see a response from Mr Myers as to why he thinks that using fonts, clearly labelled in his video as 'personal use only', on a saleable product is acceptable behaviour. If you're making money from using somebody else's design, surely it's only common decency to seek a commercial license.
@stevenmarston89232 жыл бұрын
I never got the impression that Mr. Myers was selling these mats. I clearly heard him state they could be gifts for friends and family. Yes, he stated they could be sold but you're making a vast assumption that he's never paid for the usage of the font. More specifically this particular font "Winter Creative" does NOT have a commercial license on the Dafont website. It does however give the end user the ability to "Donate" to the creator via PayPal but no price is stated, i.e., give as you deem fit. Now having said all this, I absolutely agree with paying for licenses where asked to do so. It's an "Honor" thing and we should do the honorable thing. There are some very talented people out there that should be getting paid for their talent. FWIW, I pay for all my commercial licenses or make donations. Why? Because it's the right thing to do.
