When adding paper to the sides (just the sides) is over or under existing wall wrapping preferred/correct? I get that at the top it’s under and at the bottom it’s over existing. But I’ve seen videos do sides both ways.
@StuccoPlastering Жыл бұрын
HI Greg, I prefer to go over the bottom one and over the existing side ones when waterproofing. However sometimes, whatever way possible, improvising is sometimes necessary as were only as good as what we have to work with.👨🏻🔬

Howdy Charley Cochran , Excellent question, No, the break out won’t be necessary, You just go over the existing and feather it in. No one will notice with the naked eye that they overlap, worst case is you bull in over the other, when this is done right is enhances the look. Although with just a color finish there is not much to bull with, color coats are too thin. These are usually applied no more than an eighth of an inch. Best wishes and have great day! Have you considered using a peel and stick membrane over the paper and onto the side of the window (but under the lathe?). The staples over the peel and stick membrane would also self-seal. This would eliminate the messy caulk step, and also the caulk will dry out over time, and the peel and stick membrane should remain for many years.

If the wall had no sheathing plywood behind the felt paper... how would it work? As someone with stucco with no sheathing... I'm not sure how on earth to flash the window, as it seems the previous builder just put the exterior of the window casing up against the outside of the stucco... (versus underneath the stucco). In fact, I have no idea how Z-flashing on top a window could work on stucco with no sheathing... any ideas?

Howdy Plywood was not used prior to around 1980, thus, when I started all homes were just stud walls.😉

@StuccoPlastering3 жыл бұрын
Hello Judy, in all of my window videos we also butt up to the windows, No drip is called for. We use three times the sand for every one part stucco, as a rule.

Howdy RC dude, excellent question, there are many brand names selling similar air tools, however Senco 200 XP and their Senco 150XP have been in business the longest and has a proven history for quality and longevity on it’s side. Stucco lath stapling guns or pneumatic stucco lath guns are the preferred method of attaching stucco netting used by us professional stucco and plastering contractors, not only are they preferred but are code requirements. amzn.to/2xoiy62 SENCO WC200XP 16 Gauge Wide Extreme Pro Crown Stapler, FYI, this is the air tool I prefer as it holds a variety of staple lengths and is designed for attaching stucco netting. amzn.to/2xpxdho SENCO WC150RXP 16GA Roofing gun, 1" Crown, 1 1/2" Roofing Stapler, FYI, this 150XP is also good and can be used also for roofing and attaching stucco netting Live long and plaster, kirk giordano Plastering

What type of caulk do you use?
@StuccoPlastering6 жыл бұрын
Good Evening Josh Dude, as a rule, I use the same caulking that has been sold at most professional plastering yards for well over 30 years, Sika-Flex 1A as it's a sealant, adhesive, and a polyurethane. As a respected licensed contrator, I can't afford to be sued for inferior fly by night companies with claims that have not been tested by millions of folks. Kirk Giordano plastering Inc. Thanks for the quick response. That’s great you’re in Alameda. I’m in Berkeley. My buddy had new windows put in a couple years ago and they leak. We were wondering if maybe the installer was supposed to put Z flashing over the top of the window.

@@ziggiesaquaticexotics8270 I prefer SIKAFLEX 1A Polyurethane Elastic Sealant/Adhesive High performance, moisture-cured 1 component, elastomeric sealant designed for all types waterproofing situations. Now if I'm still alive in say, ten more years and Sikapro, earns a reputation like it father Siakaflex 1A, perhaps I'll try it. FYI, Sikaflex has been sold at all the professional plastering yards for well over 30 years, I do see the Sikapro now at Home Depot and Lowes, however, it takes more than it's mere name presence for me to put my trust in a product that caters to the masses instead of the seasoned professionals who have to warranty all of their work.

how much does stucco go for at a sq ft....basic
@StuccoPlastering9 жыл бұрын
frank hern Morning Frank, thats a good question, but I have absolutely no clue, for the last 30 years and more I look at a job and figured by eye how much I will need. a little or more or less, does not matter much to me. Best wishes and sorry I can't answer this to the exact for you. Kirk giordano plastering

depends on region of the country and contractor and what he charges per sq foot. every contractor and their prices are different. to get a ballpark figure, call around to local contractors that know how to do stucco.

Here you're putting in your counter flashing behind the tar paper behind the chicken wire.... but if there is no sheathing there... I just don't get how to flash a window with stucco when there's nothing but studs on the other side of the tar paper.
@StuccoPlastering Жыл бұрын
Howdy phil, you are obviously installing some new windows. Keep in mind before 1980 there was no exterior sheathing or plywood siding, just studs. When I started lathing and plastering, the windows were mounted on studs, naturally the studs sills had the bottom flashings in place, along with the sides overlapping the bottom piece, next the window is installed with a metal Z-flashing over the top of the window. That is to say in a perfect world. Often windows can be installed wrong, I've seen more than my share. My job, when I see this is to alert the homeowner or contractors and educate them, if that's possible. However with a few it's tough to get a new idea into their heads with a crowbar.👨🏻🔬
