My interpretation on how to launch a FWD car at drags. Take my advice, or don't take it... the choice is yours. Won the driver of the year a few hours after making this clip :D

I get exactly what youre saying, and i've never had to replace a clutch on any car that ive driven (unless i chose to). But holding the car at around 4k revvs with the clutch half out for 5 secs a run will do nothing but wear it, but then again hes most likely running a racing clutch.
@Homebrewwhisky8 ай бұрын
Regardless performance clutch or not is still burning clutch plates ,this is crap U spose to heat the tyres before U launch maybe no need with this hp ,my 1000hp clutch can't slip but it's rear wheel drive ,heat tyres dump clutch at 6500 can't slip clutch to much bite

You can't let your clutch out that much on a racing clutch without it grabbing, that's the point of a racing clutch :p

when hard launching a car long term durability goes out the window on nearly every component. You can't have long term reliability and peak performance. If you're trying to get every mile out of a clutch don't launch the car. If you're trying to squeeze every second on the track/strip then you don't care if you replace the clutch more often when it is shaving seconds on your time.

Well isnt that what you do on hill starts in normal day to day driving? Thats what is taught anyway. Sure it will wear down the clutch faster than normal, however it isnt that significant unless your clutch is made from cardboard :P Dont get me wrong.. any sort of hard launching wears stuff faster but its not like the clutch is gonna last 5 runs then give up. I have 90k km on my clutch and do launches like this fairly often... atleast 100+ and its still going strong.

after staged how do you load up the drivetrain in a manual? let the clutch slip? I don't understand how can you pre load like that please explain
@Heretic3069 жыл бұрын
Yes let the clutch out a bit until it bites enough to sit the back of the car down. This preloads the CV shafts, and motor mounts. You will actually move off the light faster this way, and less likely to bust a motor mount with a shock of just dropping clutch. You're not holding the car on the clutch all day, in fact it only happens after you are fully staged.
@okaythen0019 жыл бұрын
Heretic306 how do you do it? let clutch out a bit and after it touches then presss down clutch or what? or keep slipping after fully staged then keep doing it until green light?
@MrTheHillfolk9 жыл бұрын
I like to be the last to stage. That way you are in control of when the race starts and you aren't "there all day slipping your clutch". If the other guy isn't staged yet, wait him out a little bit or wait to start preloading until you see he gets closer to staging.

Not popping the clutch, i mean at 4:38 he loads up the driveline by having the ebrake up, holding the car at a certain rpm with the clutch a bit off the floor. I mean this has to have some negative effects on your clutch after a while. He explains that he loads the driveline up by doing this.
@danielscott70013 жыл бұрын
This should have been titled "how to launch." Nothing here had anything to do with front wheel drive specifically. This is the process to launch any car, regardless of front wheel or not. If anyone even remotely thinks this was fwd specific, they really know nothing about cars or racing.

+RClittleKING yah, it's still but I've felt stiffer. I know the clutches on these cars getter stiffer as they wear out. I got 96k on the stock clutch. I'm gonna try to milk it to 120-140k miles. If you want a lighter clutch, go with the valeo clutch when yours wears out. That's my plan.

@charles2370558 жыл бұрын
That way the car isnt rolling when you have it in gear with your foot on the clutch
@TheBigChad5 жыл бұрын
charles237055 wrong.... it so you can put load on the engine. Instead of dumping the clutch at 2step and spinning like crazy, pull the handbrake up, get on your limiter while also putting your clutch pedal right at the point where it starts to grab. When you take off don’t dump the clutch, roll out of it or “slip” the clutch to avoid wheel spin while letting down the handbrake. Without using the handbrake, because of where you wanna be when you’re on the clutch the car will wanna drive off.
