We have the same sort of roof where you cannot fully stand up either & my word it makes everything twice as difficult, but it’s such a worthwhile job & it transforms the space for storage. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Yes it’s the least usable loft space ever. At least boarding it out makes it usable for storing boxes in. Sorting out a loft definitely keeps the house warmer though.

Ahh...IKEA pencil, always handy when you need it

Well spotted. You always need an ikea or Screwfix pencil.

Thanks for video, I’m going to do mine today, and just needed a few pointers 👍

Thanks Chris. It’s not the best video but hopefully clear enough to follow. Most important thing is don’t fall through the ceiling😂😂 Hopefully you will feel the benefits of less draft once you finish.

Thank you soooo much, this is exactly what I'm after, even though I'm only looking to do the middle section of my loft 👌🏽

Many thanks for your feedback and glad the video has helped you. I would say enjoy the loft boarding but I don’t think anyone enjoys that job.

@@diyhomeandgardening Thanks for your message ⚘ I'm definately gonna enjoy the savings £££ from what I was expecting to pay for loft flooring 🤗🤗🤗 Cheers x

How do you approach joins in terms of making sure they're supported? Do you make sure two ends 'share' a joist so that they're fully supported? Or can they meet 'floating' between joists and is that still strong enough for someone to walk on?
@diyhomeandgardening Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and the message. Ideally you want to support the ends over a joist or add a support below where the joints are to be. However, and this is my deciding thing, are you going to walking over that particular section? If not then don’t worry so much. Also, the wider the boards you are using the more you will need to make sure that they are fully supported at the joints as otherwise they will dip with moisture too. I normally just use some 2”x2” timber for supports, screwing it in place from the other side of the joists in which it fits. Makes it easier to do. Good luck with your loft job

I've seen videos where they elevate the boards on stilts. I just want to put some storage in the loft and thought the elevated way was overkill? Have you fixed your boards down at all or are they just resting on the insulation?
@diyhomeandgardening2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message. I’ve screwed the boards down onto the joists. The stilts are used where the loft joists are not tall enough to accommodate a decent thickness of insulation, acting so you can put thick insulation down and board onto the stilts as a lightweight option.
@deansharpe6527 Жыл бұрын
The boards are raised so that you don’t end up compressing the insulation whilst screwing to the joists, compressed insulation reduces how effective it is at trapping heat.
@diyhomeandgardening Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the added information. Obviously the requirement to raise the loft boards is based upon a reduced depth of joist having been used in house construction, relative to modern recommendations of insulation. Air flow through the loft space should also be considered so as to prevent damp.

Lol “my wife said to me when are you going to finish that loft” always step one of laying the boards

Yeah we moved in about 4 years ago and I started loads of jobs before building an extension. Obviously there are things that my wife now feels I need to get done😂

Hi. Thanks for watching and your message. The little alien eggs is actually the product that is pumped I got the walls for cavity insulation. Good spot though. I don’t envy you if you are boarding out your loft in the summer heat. Have fun 🪚🥵
